Where to Stay in Madrid (Updated 2025)

"This four‑star hotel offers spacious rooms filled with natural light and plush bedding, an on‑site Mediterranean restaurant and a continental breakfast, and it’s about a 15‑minute walk to the Prado." - Matthew Kepnes

One of the most frustrating hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The photos online are completely misleading. Room 207 looked nothing like what was advertised: a dark hallway with old carpet, a door that looked like an emergency exit, harsh hospital-style lighting, very old furniture, and a bathroom that wasn’t clean. It felt neglected and uncomfortable. We had booked three nights but ended up staying zero, because the room simply wasn’t acceptable. We moved to another hotel immediately. Check-in was rude and unhelpful. There was no one to assist with luggage, and we had to unload everything ourselves in the garage—only to be charged for the few minutes the car was there. After raising the issue with the hotel and Booking.com, Booking understood our complaint, but VP Recoletos still refused any refund, even though we didn’t stay. On top of that, they charge extra for almost everything, even basic in-room items (not minibar). Overall, outdated rooms, misleading advertising, poor service, and zero willingness to resolve issues. I strongly recommend choosing a different hotel in Madrid.

This is a perfectly fine hotel if you need a well located place to crash, but for a “4 star hotel” it felt really basic. Room was very bare bones, no waters in room, very minimal lobby / amenity. Totally fine and good beds, but not a luxury experience.

Wonderfully organized, super clean rooms in a quiet location. Less than 5 minutes to reach from the Colon Metro stop, the Recoletos cercania station, and more. The funny thing about such a nice place is that their designers somehow gave up when they got to interior lighting. Virtually no efforts could produce anything flattering for these otherwise elegant spaces. Perhaps they were sports fans, as blinding LED stadium lighting seems to be the norm. Would otherwise gladly go back.

Our spacious room had a love seat in addition to a comfortable bed, wardrobe, coffee maker, and great bathroom. Breakfast is delicious. This elegant hotel is very quiet. There are many restaurants nearby. In addition, the hotel is located near the Recoletos stop of the Cercanias (commuter rail), which is connected to both the Atocha and Chamartin train stations (regional, and AVE). Highly recommended!

Perfectly located, with absolutely kind and friendly staff , the rooms are very comfortable and while the location is amazing, the street is peaceful and quiet. Loved it! I’ll definitely comeback

Our first time in Madrid, this hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff graciously welcomed us. Our suite was immaculate and well-appointed. The housekeeping day and evening staff were professional. The hotel is situated in a lovely, safe, non-touristic area with easy access to the park and dozens of museums and shops. We will return!

Excellent service. The staff was very helpful and quick to make suggestions. The rooms were clean and they had a small kitchenette. Breakfast was excellent. Cook to order with a lot of varieties. Excellent location and very quiet.

Me, my wife and daughter had a lovely short stay here. Our room was great...very comfy and spacious (and even with a kitchenette). The staff were brilliant and very helpful and the location is great for access to local attractions, shopping, bars & restaurants... Plus only a 15-20 min taxi ride from the airport. Would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
Very pleased with my stay at this hotel, which was recommended to me by a friend who lives in Madrid. Located in a great section of Madrid--Salamanca--in an upscale neighborhood with high end shopping and great restaurants nearby. Not as touristy as Chueca, Plaza Mayor and Gran Via but still close enough and within walking distance to the major attractions such as the museums and Parque Retiro. I have an oversized room with 2 closets, a large patio with furniture and a modern bathroom (rain shower with jacuzzi option). Nice cabinetry with refrigerator and tableware discreetly stored. The supplied toiletries (soap, etc) could use a bit of an upgrade. This is not a full service hotel--no gym, no lobby bar (though Gingko Restaurant is attached to the property), no gift shop but you are not paying for those amenities here and the price at VP Jardin is quite reasonable compared to other hotels in the area and Madrid. The front staff is excellent, speaks English, and is very helpful. The entrance area is minimal and slightly dated but the rooms are more than adequate, nicely furnished and more like an apartment. Very comfortable bed. I would definitely stay here again on a return visit.
