We visited Vrede en Lust during the hottest time — over a weekend when locals come to enjoy what are probably the best-cooked steaks in the area. I regretted having just eaten, because I definitely would have indulged. As for the red wines… I don’t even know how to describe them — calling them “excellent” feels too weak to capture their true quality. Amazingly, the restaurant crowd outside didn’t bother us at all. We smelled and sipped wines that will stay in our memory for a long time. What I’ll also remember is the professionalism of the lady who presented them to us. To top off our wonderful experience, we ordered a glass of Shiraz. It was a fantastic time, and I hope to return — and next time, that steak will definitely be on my plate.
