Nice views of the city. Great service . Its 8 dollars plus tax for both the museum and statue. I think if you are local get a county library card i think you can get discount. The museum gives great info how the metal industrict was fundamental for Birmingham and for the nation specially WW2. Theire is a nice map on the floor of the plaza( sad i do not have a picture). There is a mine in the lower level and a trail you can walk. For all the family i highly recommend this .

Google
We have always enjoyed our visits to the Vulcan. It is the best view in Birmingham. The museum is great for folks who want to learn more about the history of The Steel City and history of the Vulcan. The scavenger hunt for children is very fun and a nice little touch to add to the experience. The gift shop has a nice variety of souvenirs and gifts at a reasonable price. Be sure and get a squished penny from the crank machine as you’re leaving, it will cost ya two quarters and of course, one penny. It’s a wonderful keepsake. The restrooms are very clean and well stocked and there’s a water fountain that is in working order and very clean. The trip to the top of the Vulcan consists of 108 stairs, if you choose to skip the elevator or it isn’t working. It’s worth the climb. Go at sunset you’ll see beauty that’s unexplainable. The meeting spaces are perfect for conferences and really any social or corporate event. I have attended several here and they’re always beautiful and fun with plenty of space for guests, catering, and all vendors to operate. It’s a beautiful setting.

Google
I learned a lot about the history of Birmingham, the mining & iron making. I walked up the entire tower by staircase, as the elevator seemed fast & I have a fear of heights. The balcony around the top is very high, you can see THROUGH the walkway to the ground beneath you & I heard it creek a bit. This is not for those with a height issue, but it is beautiful to come & see from the ground & learn it's history. Even at the foot of the statue you can see downtown Birmingham. I enjoyed it.

Google
It was dreary and pretty foggy, and even though the elevator was out of order and we couldnt see from the lookout because of the weather, And although the mine entrance was also closed, we still were charged full price. It was still a fun trip that I am glad I Went on, and I can definitly see that its a trip for nice clear weather. The museum was somewhat interactive and very informative, well organized and put together. They could expand offerings in their gift shop though. 100% going back on a clear and dry day!

Google
⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Vulcan: A Birmingham Icon Worth the Climb The Vulcan is an absolutely essential stop for any visitor to Birmingham, easily earning a four-star rating. As the largest cast-iron statue in the world, the sheer scale and history are impressive, instantly making it a photographic icon of the city. The view from the top observation deck is truly spectacular, offering a 360-degree panorama of downtown, Red Mountain, and the surrounding areas—it’s the best place to get your bearings. The museum and park grounds are well-maintained and offer fascinating information about Birmingham's industrial past, detailing the city's relationship with iron and steel production. This educational aspect adds significant value to the visit. The only minor detractor is the entry fee and the occasionally crowded observation deck, especially on peak days, which can make the experience feel slightly rushed. While the statue itself is magnificent, the surrounding facilities are functional but not overly elaborate. Overall, the Vulcan provides fantastic views and a very compelling history lesson. It is a mandatory pilgrimage for anyone wanting to appreciate the spirit and landscape of Birmingham. Highly recommended, just be prepared for the crowds!

Google
Hands down the best view of Birmingham. The view from the top is 360 degrees and is wonderful. Be sure to check out the museum for some of the regional history. Visit the Lone Pine mine while you are there to get a sense of what life was like in the early days of Birmingham.

Google
It's a worth visit place. It features iconic Vulcan statue with panoramic city views.well maintained museum is very informative. It's a largest statue and a cool monument honoring Birmingham's steel and mining industries.

Yelp
My best friend and I enjoyed viewing Thunder on the Mountain fireworks display one Fourth of July from the top of Vulcan! We took the stairs because I have a severe fear of heights and it isn't a bad stair climb, just under 140 stairs to the very top. We watched the fireworks from the observation deck. I'm not sure if we had access because she worked at one of the sponsors, WBRC, or was friends with one of the foundation sponsor's members. Regardless, it was fun! The view is impressive and for whatever reason that year, it was not crowded on this federal holiday! The park itself it nice, as others noted and does have several picnic tables and nice views! I recommend everyone visit Vulcan! If stairs are a requirement for you, please call before you go, because for most, if not all of 2025, the Vulcan statue elevator was closed and under repairs. Of note is there is no discount offered if the elevator is broken. The museum/statue does accept the North American Reciprocal Museums (NARM) card for free admission. Join at a museum near your home or almost any of the over one thousand museums. Note that different museums charge different prices for the same NARM membership.

Yelp
This is not worth the $ 8 admission fee. The Vulcan is a 6 story high cast iron statue on top of Red Mountain overlooking Birmingham. There is an observation tower on top that can be reached by climbing 6 flights of stairs. There is also a nonfunctional elevator. You climb a steep slope to the museum. There are several side trails which were accessible via steps. One path was padlocked. We made our way to the museum. It has another nonfunctional elevator. We went through the exhibits and the monitors were turned off in a couple of rooms. However we located the on buttons and turned it on We could not figure out how to turn on the monitor in the civil rights section We visited at 6 pm and even though the closing time was 8 pm the gift shop was closed. I don't know why we needed tickets because nobody was in the museum. The restrooms were clean The grounds were nicely manicured and the view was incredible. I would not recommend for people in wheelchairs.

Yelp
We have been to Vulcan Park before, but really enjoyed the more personable visit this time. Lots of historical gems about Birmingham and Alabama as a whole, especially regarding the mining, coal, and steel/iron industries. If you enjoy history and/or science, or just nature in general, please don't hesitate! The park is free before 5p then is $5 per person. The museum is $8 per person. It is a smaller exhibit, but helps you appreciate what mining workers really went through, and further industrial history. Vulcan Trail was very peaceful and there were many informational signs and views along the way.

Yelp
I walked the Vulcan trail just to get some exercise, but decided to go on up to the park. It is beautiful and clean. I didn't go into the museum this time, but will definitely hit it next time. The VIEWS up there are SPECTACULAR!! There are tables and benches in the area of the statue. IMPORTANT INFO if you're coming in through the trail: the gates are locked at 4pm!!! I missed that sign as I took in the beautiful scenery. Thankfully, the kind security officer there named Andrew was willing to let me through the gate to get back to the trail (that leads me back toward my home). I was so thankful he was willing to do that for me! He certainly didn't have to.

Yelp
Vulcan is a Birmingham gem! I have visited for events, field trips, and kids adventure and each time I've truly enjoyed it. The event space is wonderful and accommodating for the space. They keep the grounds well maintained and it's never crowded. The museum is also a cute feature to learn about the history. For an amazing skyline view go visit and make sure to go up top too!

Yelp
Nice piece of history in Birmingham! The park and surrounding property is well kept and inviting. The staff is friendly. It was a great stop on a long road trip.

Yelp
Vulcan park and museum is a cool place to visit. The museum is rich in history with great storytellers employed. The park offers great views overlooking the city in addition to walking trails and outdoor space to enjoy food. If you happen to visit during the July 4th holiday, there's also a spectacular fireworks show. It's family friendly so I'd say add to your place and plans to visit.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a cool spot to check out in the city. The museum had a lot of details on how Birmingham developed in the early years and the background story for this statue. The view from the top of this hill is nice. It's free to walk around the outside in the late afternoons. They also offer a AAA discount for the museum. Lots of parking available.

Yelp
We came here as this was one of the known attractions in Birmingham. You drive up a steep hill to get to the top where the parking lot is. You buy your ticket from the booth right there, which gets you up the Vulcan statue and into the museum. From there, we walked up the fairly steep path, learning some history all while having sight of the Vulcan. There are some great views from the top of downtown Birmingham and they have binocular viewers you can put quarters in to use. From there, we went to the coal mine at the lower level and saw the display of what a mine used to look like. We went into the museum, where there is a gift shop and walked through the exhibits about the history of the Vulcan. It was interesting, but short. From there, it was on to the last stop, the hike up the stairs to the top of the Vulcan. We had no choice but to hike on this day because the elevator was broken, and had been broken for some time, with no fix in sight the person told us. They didn't tell us this when we bought our tickets, but no big deal. The stairs weren't too bad and we spent about 5 minutes at the top admiring the view. We spent about a little over an hour total here.

Yelp
Got in a second workout and sauna session at Vulcan this evening. Movies on the Mountain was playing Monster's Inc tonight and the little kid in me was happy to grab my chair from my trunk and enjoy an animated movie. Your ticket for the movie ($10) also allows you to visit the museum and go up the deck to the Vulcan. The elevator was not working but the stairs were ready to welcome me with open and steaming arms (so hot in there). There was a pretty nice turn out. Food and drinks were available for purchase and popcorn was free while it lasted. Great activity to do with your kids if you have any, go solo like I did or grab someone to take with you.

Yelp
The grounds are immaculately kept up. Definitely a great place for a picnic before or after a trip to the top. The views from the top are fantastic. Loss of one star due to broken elevator. After directly questioning an employee, it isn't "down today for maintenance." They've been down for more than several weeks with no return to service date in sight, at least several more. It's such a shame that anyone of a certain age (old/young) or handicapped individuals can't enjoy this wonder for such a long period of time.

The view from the top of the statue were absolutely beautiful. The park were very well maintained. Big parking lot. The museum has exhibit showing the history of Birmingham. Definitely worth stopping by.

Yelp
I love Vulcan! This views are great. Birmingham is such a beautiful city at night from the Vulcan observation deck. The muesem has wonderful exhibits that tell the history of Birmingham an the iron industry. The staff are real friendly. And don't foret to see Vulcan's foot cast....take that Bigfoot! A little personal history: When I was a child; I lived in Pelham and my mother lived in Nashville. Every other weekend she would come down and spend the weekend with me. We would always go to Vulcan. In those days Vulcan was brown, the observation deck was indoors, and what is now a musuem was a video arcade. I would liberate her quarters playing video games at Vulcan. Then we would hike up the 100 or so steps to the observation deck. It was a great time. Then in 1997; my wife accepted proposal to get married at Vulcan where the picnic area is. I've been married to the same girl for 28 years now. I think Vulcan did it! lol Vulcan Park will always hold a special place in my heart. I recommend you start some of your own wonderful memories there.

Yelp
We had our nieces visiting from New York and decided to spend some time at Vulcan Park. What an amazing experience. I highly recommend spending some time touring the museum section. Tons of great facts about The Magic City. By far one of the best views overlooking the city. Don't wait until you have guest in town to visit this amazing attraction. This is a must visit for everyone that lives in the Metro. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I like the diversity of activities available at Vulcan Park and Museum; there's a little bit of everything here, and while this is the only "attraction" I've been to in Birmingham, I would say this is a "must do" while you are here. This park has a small museum about the history of Birmingham, a hiking trail along the ridge line, and the star of the show, the Vulcan statue and tower. The entrance price is $6 for adults, and includes the museum, which takes maybe 15 minutes to go through, and the tower, which you can either climb up or take an elevator up. There's also a neat (paved) hiking/cycling trail along the ridge line. The park (and especially the tower) has beautiful views of the skyline and surrounding areas. There's a parking lot, but you can also reach the park by foot (an uphill but fun walk from downtown Birmingham and the university) or bus (take the Magic City Circulator, every 30 minutes and just 30 cents per ride).

Madelyn W.

Yelp
Beautiful view from the top. Lots of things to see even before going up. Beautiful grounds, a mine exhibit, indoor museum and gift shop.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Old Iron Butt is always worth a visit. Just looking up at him from the park below is fun, but taking the ride (or the stairs) to the top is what it's all about. And get yourself a souvenir at the gift shop. The lady there is very nice.

Wayne B.

Yelp
Great attraction and interesting location to visit if your wanting to better understand the origin and history of the city of Birmingham with regards to what brought immigrants and Americans to settle in the area. Museum presents a documented and easy to follow path of the iron and steel industries and the role they played in the development of the city. Views from the Observation Deck are phenomenal and on a clear day offered a panoramic view of the city and surrounding areas. On the day we visited the elevators were down; however the steps while many -will lead you to the top. While visiting the Park, you can view the largest cast iron statue in the world. Recommend planning to spend at least 4 hours if not longer.

Yelp
DON'T LET HISTORY REPEAT ITSELF! Vulcan Park and museum has been on my list for a while now, I live so close by it is honestly so shocking I have never been. Vulcan is a staple to the Birmingham area, the statue stands tall among the trees and mountains. I always know that I am close to home when I see the Vulcan statue. I guess you can say it's my landmark. We came by tonight for the annual Vulcan Magic Nights. They do a light show up against the statue, the museum and tower are opened too. There was a dee jay, playing some upbeat and happy music, but I'm not sure that the music that they selected was appropriate for children. So, my comment on that would be to know your audience. If it is a Sunday night maybe play music that doesn't make it seem like we are in a night club. Instead play music that is appropriate for all ages including children. Normally, I would not go out of my way to spend $20 for an elevator ride and a museum experience without a tour, but since this was an event/special experience and tickets were only $6 I said why not? When I think of museums with elevators, I always remember when my family took a trip to San Francisco and we explored the Coit tower. A beautiful museum that is in memory of volunteer firefighters. For this museum experience you are jammed packed like sardines into a tiny elevator and shot up about 20 floors to the top. The sights are beautiful, however, the elevator ride was definitely not my cup of tea per say. Vulcan is very different then the Coit Tower, for the Vulcan experience only one party is allowed in the elevator at a time. That's what the volunteer told us. But since our party was only two people, we asked if we could ride with another party. She said we could, but normally those are the rules. The elevator is not as jammed packed and stuffy as the one in San Fran, but for someone who is terrified of heights and elevators, this was an experience for me. At the top of the tower, normally you would be able to see all of down town Birmingham, parts of Homewood and beyond, but as this was an after hours event and it was at night, the only things we could see were the down town Birmingham skyline and all of down town. Part of the ticket for the magical nights at the tower this evening, was to walk around inside the museum. It is a very nice museum which gives very informative information about how Birmingham became what it is today. A lot of this I did not know, or see coming. I loved getting the chance to visit the Vulcan as it is part of what makes Birmingham, Birmingham. If you have family in town or, you just want to learn a little more about the Magic City, this is the place to come. I wish that there was more volunteers and or staff members around for you to chat with. But all in all I had a very fun time.

Yelp
My family and I attended an event here last night called Vulcan's Magical Nights. It's a holiday event that lets you see the big Vulcan statue all lit up in lights. There were Christmas lights & decorations, Christmas music, pictures with Santa, and cool holiday setups by the Pixel Room so you could take cute selfies. Tickets to the event also allowed you to be able to tour the museum and ride the elevator up to the top of the observation tower. We enjoyed everything! My kids were a little nervous for the observation tower because it's so high up. However, once we got up there, they realized it wasn't too bad...if they didn't look down. The museum has some great informational exhibits. We all learned something new. It was nice to experience the Vulcan during Christmas season.

Yelp
Vulcan park and museum is a Really cool Birmingham Alabama attraction. My family and I was stopped in Birmingham for a mini day trip while on route from our family vacation from Lousiville to Destin. Large god like statue around a park seemed cool to us so we stopped in. The park is actually a museum and an observatory tower. Tickets are very reasonable. $5 a person essentially and you get the observance tower and museum. The kids got a little scavenger hunt sheet so that kept them very entertained. The site offered stunning views of the city and the museum was very informative. Takes about 15 min to go through whole museum. Overall really cool and scenic stop on our mini stay in Birmingham. Glad we made the trip as it was a change of pace from other attractions in the city. So it offered a different flavor of Birmingham to us.

Yelp
This park is awesome. It has 4 parts pretty much. It has a gift shop, a museum, a trail and the actual monument tower. This looks like the hot spot for engagements in the city of Birmingham. I saw two engagements, with photographers and the whole nine in the brief time I was there. The gift shop is your typical gift shop with cups, mugs, magnets, toys shot glasses... You can also purchase tickets to the museum/tower here as well. The tickets that you purchase cover both going up the tower and visiting the museum and is very reasonably priced. They have parking all over the place. You can park in the main lot or on the other side in the Vulcan Trail lot. They are both free. The main lot is huge. I spent about an hour and a half there at the park. The museum is located in the same building as the gift shop. Like most museums, you exit right in front of the gift shop. It is a small museum that gives the history of the statue, the role iron mining played in the development of the city, civi rights in Birmingham and Vulcan award winners/supporters. You can also buy tickets at the museum's ticket booth while the building is open. The main attraction of the park is Vulcan, the Roan God of Fire and Forge, standing on a tower as he looks over the city of Birmingham. It is the largest cast-iron statue in the world, created for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. You can go up the tower and overlook the city with him. It is a somewhat scary elevator ride up and the see-through grated floor that you are on while you are up there is definitely not for those with a fear of heights. You do get a 360 view of the city and I went there before sundown to get the view in the day and at night. They were both equally impressive, but I liked the night view a bit better. The stairs were closed due to COVID (no tears shed here though), so you can only take the elevator up to the observation deck. The grounds of the park are well maintained and has a picnic table area, benches, and cafe tables. There is also vast grassy area around the monument where I saw people just sitting out and enjoy the day, walking their dogs and just living their best lives. It can of reminded me of a low scale Washington D.C. Mall area. Thursday-Sunday, the museum and gift shop closes earlier than the tower, which is open to 10PM. The both close at 6PM on the other days. There is a ticket booth at the parking lot that looked like it opens right before the museum and gift shop closes on those extended days. I really enjoyed this park. It seems to be a romantic date spot. It is very well maintained, clean and reasonably priced to see the museum and go up the tower. The park and trail and free to visit. You only have to pay of you want to go to the Museum and observation deck. It is a very picturesque park that serves as the back drop to many wedding and engagement photos. This park is definetly worth a stop if you are in the area.

Yelp
Birmingham, Alabama was built on the success of the local iron industry. To pay homage to the city's roots, the city has embraced Vulcan, the Roman god of metalwork and the forge, as its symbol and mascot and lovingly calls itself Steel City. Overlooking the city is a huge statue of Vulcan. Beyond the statue, it is also a nice park where you can step away from the stress and hustle of urban life. For a low admission you can go to the observatory tower, though the view is pretty nice either way. If you are in Birmingham, I would definitely recommend a visit here. Look out over the city built on steel and see a great American city that continues to evolve.

Yelp
Even with the elevator not working to the top of Vulcan, this was a WONDERFUL museum and a great eye full of the city from up high. Staff was amazingly courteous. Everything was impeccably clean and well manicured. Looking for awesome?? This is the place!

Yelp
Loved my visit at the Vulcan Park Museum. The staff was incredibly friendly and answered any questions you had about the city or the park. The museum itself is super clean and well done with great items and a lot of informative information The views are also spectacular from the park and just a great spot to enjoy seeing the city from a different perspective. This museum definitely gave me an appreciation for Birmingham.
google avatar

Ranita S.

Yelp
Came to an after party here for a wedding and was super impressed with how friendly the staff were here. At around 10 pm they still seemed energized and smiling and very accommodating. There were families, people on dates and people walking around here on a Saturday night. I felt very safe. The park itself was well maintained and gorgeous. Absolutely loved the view. The best in Birmingham for sure. The museum is small, however restrooms were clean. The space was perfect for socializing and dancing. Very lovely space, a must see for those who visit Birmingham.

Yelp
First time going, the view was pretty overlooking the city. Museum had a quick history review. If your afraid of heights don't look down once at the top of the Vulcan! Overall nice experience.

Yelp
Large beautiful park with parking lot. You can buy tickets to go up the tower deck where the statue or iron man is. The lookout points are great too.

Yelp
Huge fan of Vulcan Park and the trail! Great views of Birmingham and the surrounding area, particularly from the observation tower. Great place for planes potting if you're into that. If you're scared of heights, the park area affords a great vista of downtown and is a relaxing place for a picnic afternoon walk. The museum if very well done and informative about Birmingham history. My favorite, however, is the trail, a regular running venue for me. it's a 4 mile out and back (2 miles each way) running along the ridge of Red Mountain, or 6 miles if you start at the Trak Shak in downtown Homewood. First mile paved, 2nd mile gravel (and arguably prettier), gradual descent to the far end and a slight uphill on the way back, but nothing strenuous. Spring and fall are IMHO the most beautiful times to visit.
google avatar

Judy A.

Yelp
I love the view from up here. It's also a good place to relax, sit in the grass while reading a book. Me encanta la vista desde aquí. Es también un buen lugar para relajarse, sentarse en el pasto y leer un libro
google avatar

Yelp
When you ascend to the top of "Vulcan" you'll arrive at an observation tower and be rewarded with an awesome view of the City! Even if you only climb as far as the visitor's center, you'll have an outstanding view of Birmingham :-) Admission to the museum is nominal, and you'll be able to learn a lot about the history of Jefferson County when you visit it. There's also a lot of material on the Civil Rights Movement; this place is well worth making time to visit.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
If you get a chance to visit the Vulcan you SHOULD! Amazing views of downtown Birmingham! Very nice gift shop and a small museum with the history of this famous landmark! Perfect for kids and families.
google avatar

Danny S.

Yelp
Love the museum. Think that there's an elevator to get to the top of the platform. Stairs as well for those that want to risk their lives. The view from the top of the platform was incredible. I was told I can come back tonight before 10:00 and go up again for free to see the lights. Great museum with lots of History though the souvenir shop is pretty expensive. $13 for a tiny little metal magnet.
google avatar

Mr O.

Yelp
Great place to learn about the history of the city. Has everything from the Vulcan to the steel production and also the civil rights movements. Learned so much! Also the staff of very helpful. It's only $6 for adults and $4 for kids
google avatar

Sadie W.

Yelp
Great place to visit! The view is amazing!! Due to COVID-19 you're unable to use the telescopes to view the city. The inside museum is still open for you to see how Vulcan came to be and the important event during this time all the way up until Annetta Nunn becoming the first black female police chef of Birmingham. You can still go to the Observation tower, but they give you time limits if it's busy. The afternoon we went it was kind of slow and we were allowed 15 minutes in the observation tower.. I was a little chicken. I didn't lookout. Lol I stayed very close to the elevator until everyone else was ready to go.

Yelp
'Moon over Homewood; It's so unrefined We have to get mooned with the Vulcan's behind Moon over Homewood; We don't think it's fair That we have to look at his big derriere' The 1904 cast-iron sculpture of Vulcan -- he has an 11,000 pound head -- inspired the above 1982 local song because his buttocks -- sorry, I don't know how much that weighs -- faces the suburb of Homewood. When you take the elevator up to the observation deck, you'll face his buttocks, too, close up. If you're trying to take a photo of Vulcan, this will be the best photo you'll get. That's too bad because he's an adorable grey-painted figure who seems to be guarding the skies above the city from his perch on Red Mountain. The story from 1904 through to 2004 is quite fascinating. Poor Vulcan lost his spear, spent time filled with concrete, sat disassembled in a parking lot, didn't have a home for a while and, at various times, held an ice cream cone, a Coca-Cola bottle, and Heinz pickles. He's even had reconstructive surgery to bring back his youthful and vigorous appearance. In other words, this guy has had a more interesting life than many people I know. Go pay him a visit but don't expect him to say cheese when you snap a photo. He sees something up there in the sky. Maybe, one day, he'll tell you what it is.

Yelp
Vulcan Park and Museum is a great attraction! I admit to taking this experience for granted in the past , considering my first time visiting here was this past summer. I decided to bring my niece and nephew here to kill time but I am so glad we came. This wasn't their first time here. We did the museum tour which was very informative and I really learned so much about the city I've lived in my entire life! I think if you live in bham or stop through bham , this has to be a monument you visit! After we toured the museum, unwisely , we took the stairs to the top of Vulcan. I was beat once we reached to top!! The view of the Magic City was really nice! I appreciated this beautiful view! Coming down was way easier bc I took the elevator.....I let the kids conquer those stairs. Lol The grounds at Vulcan were extremely clean and the staff was helpful in answering any questions I had . The only regret I have is waiting so long to visit such a historic landmark in Birmingham!
google avatar

Yelp
It has been years since I visited, and I am glad that we made the stop. Clean, affordable, professional, nostalgic, beautiful, and intriguing! Spend a few minutes to tour the museum, marvel at the Vulcan, and view the city from the platform--it is a great view!

Yelp
Definitely worth the 6.00 admission to the tower/ statue and museum. Parking is free , just a short walk up the hill to purchase tickets inside the museum. Nice view of Birmingham and it's sites.

Yelp
For $6 dollars this is a wonderful value. Fun historic site and educational experience. Staff was welcoming and available to answer questions. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Our first stop in Birmingham led us to the top where the Vulcan was calling for us. Indeed, I'm used to touching cast iron in my teapot, but this man surely is a larger and greater way to welcome you to one of the South's most unique cities. Vulcan Park offers up a spectacular history of the industrial city. You learn about the growth of Birmingham and the symbolism of Vulcan to the city. Sitting on top of a hill, Vulcan is the largest cast iron statue in the world. From its top, you get an amazing view of the city that is captivating on a beautiful, sunny day. We really enjoyed coming up here early in the morning where we avoid the crowd and waited until the actual museum opened. There's no entry fee for the view from the bottom, so come up and check it out!

Yelp
This is a must see for Birmingham! I recommend going here first because of the great views of the city. The statue also has the most amazing butt!!

Yelp
3.5. It is a big statute. And the museum bit is a good, compact once-over of Birmingham in general and the statue in particular. Gift shop tries to do a lot but manages to do something. Certainly provides a nice vantage point from which to take in the city. The park grounds are pleasantly manicured. Is it all that and a bag of chips? No. It really isn't. But this is what they have in Birmingham. You pays your ticket and you see the sights.

Yelp
Beautiful views at night. Not busy at all, with the exception of a wedding on the grounds. Elevator ride to the top was quick, amazing views although it was very windy.

Yelp
Would you like the best view of Birmingham?! Well you're coming to the right place. The amount of rich Alabama history in one place is intoxicating and not to mention extremely beautiful. This is a great place to bring the family and to even go on a romantic evening date. Imagine coming during the golden hour and watching the sun set on the Magic City from 125 feet in the air. Dreamy, right? You can also rent it out for private events. There is a museum there, too. It closes at 6 PM...so try and get there to see what is on the inside of there. I would suggest taking the elevator up to the Vulcan and walking down the 159 stairs...yes, you will get a sticker for coming down the tower. Make sure you stop for a photo op under the Vulcan sign to commemorate your visit. The lighting is perfect and the Vulcan guide takes the best pictures--omg. I will be back. My first visit from 8-10 PM was amazing!!

Yelp
I visited Vulcan park with a few family members and had an amazing time learning the history of our ancestors and what it was like to work in a mine. I definitely recommend carrying a water bottle with you if your going while the sun is out, the staff was very friendly and at the door they give the children a little scavenger hunt to keep them engaged. P.s don't go up the tower if your afraid of heights.

Yelp
A magnificent landmark. Truly. It sits atop a hill, looking over the magic city. Always in view. On a bright a beautiful day, it is indeed worth a visit. A $6 fare will allow you passage to the top of the monument. There, you are able to view Birmingham in its entirety. But it really hasn't much to offer, apart from being really high in the air and the ability to see really far. A spectacular view, to be sure. But you're not viewing much that can be described as spectacular. Visit. Take pictures. Go to the top of the monument. Walk around. Then leave.

Yelp
Vulcan Man looks out with fab views of the city of Birmingham, pointing the way forward. He sits atop Red Mountain above the iron ore mine that was part of how Birmingham became the Iron City. Stretching 56 feet tall himself, on top of a 126 foot pedestal, he is the seventh largest free standing statue in the United States. Manufactured from ore that was mined right here in Birmingham! A ride in the elevator to the top is only $6 for adults. Parking and access to the park itself is free. The museum itself details the history of the city going back to the days when it was settled by Indians. A lovely park on a sunny day, there are picnic tables and plenty of shady spots for sitting. And because it's on top of the mountain, expect a cool breeze. And wifi. (What? Yes.) Review number 3400!
