Výtopna Restaurant was on our must-see list in Prague, but we made the mistake of not reserving in advance, which meant we had to wait about an hour in line. We were a group of six and were eventually given a table for six, along with a paper showing our table number and instructions to follow the blue (or other colored) floor markers to our table—all was clear. The paper also included a start and end time, as you are allowed to stay for one hour.
The table was set with napkins and salt/pepper, but the cutlery was brought by a waitress after we sat down. As many have mentioned, the prices are on the higher side. We paid around €60 for a small set of four beers (totaling ~0.75L), two main dishes, one portion of French fries and one juice.
We asked if it was possible to order and pay separately since we were with friends, but the answer was no, which was a bit inconvenient. It was also confusing when our train arrived carrying two almost-empty glasses along with two drinks that looked like our order—it felt like someone else’s leftovers! It turned out that the two drinks were indeed ours, but new orders can easily get mixed up with other people's leftovers on the train. Mistakes can be communicated to the staff and corrected, but it takes time.
It's also important to be quick when removing your trays from the train. When the food finally arrived, everything looked and tasted delicious.
The restroom was clean.
The bill was entirely in Czech, which wasn’t helpful for English-speaking visitors trying to calculate and split costs with friends. If you’re sharing one bill, I’d recommend taking pictures of your orders and their prices as you go.
All in all, the place is worth visiting at least once for its unique atmosphere and concept, but some improvements could make the experience even better.
