"As the weather starts to warm up, now is the time to hit the trails. W.D. Thomson Park has a great network of color coded paths to wander. Dogs are welcome, there's a creek to skip rocks on, and there's a covered area for picnicking. Although the playground is probably aimed at humans of the smaller variety, we made sure that all the equipment was in good working order. Go play!" - Liz Shinn & Mike Rivera

This park is hard to find without using Google Maps or noticing road signs leading to it. It has one general picnic pavilion with a water fountain next to a playground. There is also 2 tennis courts and a basketball court. The biggest attraction here though is its trail system. There are 6 color coded trails which go through a beautiful scenic wooded area. It’s best to go through here during the Spring and Summer seasons as during the Fall season, leaves would cover the trail and trail markers are trickier to locate. This is also a dog friendly park. Just make sure to have them on a leash as the park is really big and it can be easy to get lost without a map which you can take a picture of before adventuring on the trails.

Some of the best trails I've ever found, absolutely gorgeous and well marked. Good for off leash dog walking, we saw some others as well

Delightful trails, plenty of parking, nice and quiet escape into nature from the city

Google
What a gem of a park with something for everyone and great attention to improving forest health and habitat. We were pleasantly surprised to find the well-marked and maintained network of trails on the northern end of this park, with ample parking and new infrastructure for the sport/playground/picnic facilities and the south end. Thanks to the work of the Georgia Native Plant Society, the forest is relatively free of invasives and the spring ephemerals were quite evident at the end of March when we visited.

Beautiful little park! Saw some early spring blooms. Great for an easy hike.

This park has beautiful, huge, old trees, mostly beech and oak, growing thickly enough to surround you with green in the summer. The paths are heavily shaded and mostly not too steep for the average person. Accessibility: the picnic benches and playground are wheelchair accessible but the paths are definitely not.

Gorgeous park with great views. Great for hiking and especially nice because there is a free tennis court next to it! Will be back soon

It's a little Oasis of calm, just minutes from the chaos of Emory and Eggleston's Hospitals. It had a nice pavilion with a barbecue grill, this tennis courts, a basketball court, some walking trails. Really just a nice overall albeit medium sized maybe small Park.

Yelp
This is a cute little neighborhood park with trails in the woods. There was ample marking on trees so you wouldn't get lost. It's quiet and barely little traffic noise. So pretty amazing to have this within a busy part of town. They also have tennis courts (some cracks) picnic and kids play areas. That said, parking lot had broken glass so be careful with your cars.

Yelp
The most deserted looking park , I'm seen in a long time . I wanted a outdoor space to walk and relax. It's not here. I'm afraid to leave my vehicle.

Yelp
W D Thomson Park will be starred based on what you're looking for in a park. I like nice walking trails or cycling trails. sadly, W D Thomson is not the park you want to go to if you want a nice long walk. what Thomson Park IS is a nice little neighborhood park, great for a neighborhood grill/get together, a pick up tennis match or some softball, as the park has a nice covered bench area and grill, decent sized tennis court and field where softball can be played. The trail is marked, , but isn't really kept up, and becomes "lost" once you cross the bridge. There's a decent children's play area as well across from the small parking lot. Bicycles are actually not allowed via a park sign, but there's dogs are welcome, the water fountain still doesn't work if that's an issue If you just want to get out, have a nice get together, or take a casual quick walk and you live close, W D Thomson Park may be for you. If you want a nice long trail walk, there are more parks not so far away that do a better job delivering that.

Yelp
Pothole-ridden Mason Mill has been driven on by me a million times, and I never knew this under wraps park existed. Only word-of-mouth (from a fellow Yelper, naturally) let us in on the secret. There isn't any signage on Mason Mill Road, so turn onto Mason Woods Road and then make a right into the park. You can park either in the small lot straight ahead or turn right and park down a hill. W.D. Thomson Park has some tennis courts, a spot for shooting hoops, a baseball field of sorts, a playground, a stream, woodsy walking trails, and a covered picnic area that you can reserve. No bathrooms though. And the water fountains weren't working when we were there. But other than that, a fantastic find!

Yelp
It was marvelous! What a nice park! The most relaxing place! Great views, would love to come back here!

Yelp
I love this park and its serenity. I enjoy watching flocks of birds and walking in the quiet woods. But... Keep your dog/s on a leash. Especially if there's one of you and four of them, and they charge my dog who is on a leash.

Yelp
W. D. Thomson Park (that's right - the extra "p" you see in the heading is a common mispelling) is a beautiful, quiet corner of the woods of the North Georgia mountains, only moments from the hustle and bustle of Dekalb County. Tucked between residential neighborhoods and practically adjacent to Emory and the CDC, W. D. Thomson Park offers wooded trails and a stream-side picnic area, as well as a few amenities (playground, tennis courts and a grassy playing field). There is parking and a picnic shelter next to the playground, and additional parking next to the tennis areas. Recent efforts by the Friends of Thomson Park volunteer group has begun the process of removing thickets of privet and other invasives, and allowing native species to begin repopulating the trails and woods. Dogs are supposed to remain on a leash. No bathrooms.
