15 Best Luxury & Boutique Hotels in Toronto to Book - AFAR

"Housed in a striking brutalist structure that replaced a former Marriott, this property delivers riotously colorful interiors, large-scale contemporary art, and one of downtown’s biggest rooftop terraces, styled like a plant-filled, Marrakech-inspired fantasia serving Middle Eastern–influenced tapas. Guest rooms emphasize sexy, clubby design with velvet curtains, curved banquettes, and sculptural lamps, and the hotel features Canada’s first W Sound Suite, a professional-style recording studio. Its central location at the intersection of Yonge and Bloor places guests in the symbolic heart of downtown." - Michael Kaminer

W Toronto (Toronto, Ontario) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The W hotels were among the original luxury boutique hotels, and they’re just as relevant now as they were when they were trailblazers. W Toronto enters Yorkville, one of the city’s hippest neighborhoods, with all the brand’s familiar strengths turned up to 10: dazzling architecture, stylish, colorful interior design, signature in-room comforts, and public spaces that attract in-the-know locals and hotel guests in roughly equal measure. The fitness and wellness offerings are particularly extensive, while the lobby bar’s DJ booth doubles as a broadcast-ready recording studio, and the rooftop restaurant and bar offer spectacular city views." - Tablet Hotels

The W in Yorkville was amazing for our girls trip! First, the valet was super helpful and so kind when we pulled up. When we checked in the rooms were ready and they did not disappoint. Modern, spacious rooms with a different twist with an open concept bathroom yet private to a certain degree. Beds were very comfortable and we couldn't hear our neighbour's in adjoining rooms which was very much appreciated. From check in to check out we had the best service.

We stayed at W in Toronto for 5 nights in September. What a lovely hotel, the room decor was gorgeous, the bathrooms were gorgeous and the amenities were great. We had seen a lot of bad comments regarding room layout, I’m not sure if we were just lucky but our toilet was within bathroom and not on its own with frosted glass door facing bedroom. Our bathroom door faced the wardrobe as you entered the room, the door was frosted glass but didn’t face the bedroom. Our room was a deluxe guest room. The room was spacious, the robes were very cosy. Room keeping was great too. The hotel bar was lovely, such a cosy relaxing vibe. We had room service a few times but didn’t find the time to eat at their restaurant or breakfast area but stopped for drinks in lobby bar couple of times which was very chill. The service was amazing, the staff were so polite, happy to help & friendly. Location wise we felt was great for first time visiting Toronto, you could get an uber to other side of city for about $13 or less and they were there within couple of mins. You are also around the corner from Yorkville which is a lovely area. Would definitely recommend and return!

Google
Amazing experience! Friendly staff, clean, professional atmosphere. Reasonable valet for $75 I guess. Rooms are awesome! Spacious, clean, modern and impressive. Room service was also reasonably priced and delicious (I had the hamburger n fries). An awesome bonus was an espresso machine for morning coffee. Be sure to check the pods for decaffeinated. I wasted 2 sugars and creamer on one :( My view was the courtyard which was perfect so not much sunlight came in. Walking distance to just about anything you could need and a short Uber to the stadium. All in all I highly recommend staying here if your budget allows. I was very temptedto stay another night. I will return!

Google
I will say, I get the appeal of this hotel. The location is fantastic and the parking is great. I was worried about parking but literally pull in off of Bloor St and you can park. The service was great, everybody was very nice. The hotel amenities were good like the fitness club, multiple lounges, live music, etc. What left something to be desired was the room. I read reviews about the bathroom and thought people were blowing it out of proportion but they do suck. The rooms are all about esthetics and not function. Just figuring out the lights and what you can use at what time is tough. If you wake up early you need to figure out how to operate in the dark because otherwise some of the lights you just can't use. There were two fire alarms that went off on Thursday at 615am and Friday at the exact same time. The TV wouldnt display the guide on it so it was only so functional. Great location, looks great, and the staff are nice but the rooms make it a little tough sometimes.

Google
Really nice hotel but a couple things to keep in mind for the room. ||My wife and I had no issues but for couples who aren’t as comfortable, the bathroom is pretty much in the open and the door provides little to no privacy. Something to keep in mind. ||The temperature in the room was not working. It was freezing when we came in and it was set to 22. I put it up to 25 and it only got a little warmer. ||Bed was super comfortable and the room was clean. Got a late checkout for 1pm which was nice. Bar is nice and excellent drinks! Perfect location if you want to be somewhat close to yorkville.

Google
I cannot say enough good things about the W Toronto. From start to finish, we had an absolutely amazing visit. Every single team member was friendly, helpful, and very memorable. Valet, housekeeping, front desk, W Living Room staff, and the team at Tono - all were amazing. The hotel is in a perfect location and within walking distance to the amazing shops in Yorkville. I simply cannot recommend this hotel enough - the leadership is clearly doing an outstanding job with hiring and retaining amazing talent.

Google
Location is flawless. Amenities plenty. There's no pool, but for all other reasons, it's a great, clean, hotel. The only downside would be that noise does travel. You would want a fan on or something to avoid hearing other rooms open.

Google
Check in was easy and valet was fast. ||I had a standard room. The view was boring, it only had one standard sized window with no real view (but apparently a better view). The layout and furniture was however very nice. The room was on the smaller side but they did a nice job of making the most of it. ||Coffee in the room was a lovely Nespresso. They sent a very nice gift to the room as well. ||The restaurant was okay but not great. In a bind I'd go there. ||If this is your location need it's a good opportunity.

Yelp
While I absolutely loved the lobby, bar, rooftop restaurant, and--most importantly--the AMAZING service from the wonderful staff, I was highly unimpressed by the room. I paid extra for a city view and repeatedly requested a high floor, yet I was placed on the 6th floor with a disappointing view of a back lot, mostly obstructed by the bed. Not exactly the cityscape I was expecting. Additionally, for a hotel that markets itself as fun and luxurious, I was surprised by the complete lack of in-room extras--no snacks, no sodas, no cute mini-bar bottles. The absence of these small touches really affected the overall experience, especially for a romantic Valentine's weekend reunion. The exposed bathroom sink also made getting ready a challenge, particularly when trying to apply makeup. All in all, while the common areas and staff were fantastic, the lack of attention to detail in the room made it feel far from luxurious. Paying for a view I didn't get and missing those little indulgences definitely took away from the experience. Thank goodness for the staff--they were the real highlight of the stay! Shout out to Luis at Front Desk, Mohit at both Lobby & Rooftop Bars, Kim at Lobby Bar, Julia who brought up our $40 sodas & our lovely cleaning lady whose name I'm unable to spell but was a gem!

Yelp
Oh W Toronto...you know you're a whole sexy, modern, urban, sophisticated vibe...and Im here for it! Walking into the hotel is a bit confusing because there isn't much of a lobby, just a couch with a hostess stand..looking like you're entering a cocktail lounge rather than a hotel. However, we were there for afternoon tea, and again for a Caribbean brunch, and the hostess directed us to the elevator that took us to the penthouse and upper deck areas. The hotel is so stylishly decorated and the restaurant bathrooms are an experience! We can't speak to the quality of the rooms, but based on the other areas, Im pretty sure the rooms are just as trendy. We enjoyed our time here..and it's located in the trendy part of the city with all the high-end stores for shopping. Highly recommend!

Yelp
For over 700 CAD a night, I expected the gates of heaven to open as soon as I entered the room but all I got was a sub-par hotel stay. This hotel is trying badly to be something that it cannot be and the high price tag does not justify the lack of amenities, privacy and customer service. From the moment you enter at street level, you have to carry your suitcases up the stairs and try to find the reception desk in an setting similar to a maze. Once you do, you go through a perfunctory check in process which does not feel neither classy nor special. The room I got was small, with wannabe fancy interior decor which felt tacky. Who needs a bathroom with no privacy? Not to mention the paper thin walls. I found a bug on the floor and when I complained it was downplayed. If you are in Toronto and want a pampering experience at a Marriott Property, I highly recommend the Delta Hotel.

Yelp
Possibly one of the poorest high tea experiences I've had. After being seated, we were given a selection of 9 teas to choose from, but after ordering, we were told that our reservation did not include high tea. After showing proof of our booking that stated 'high tea', we had to wait an extra hour for our set to be made due to a technical issue on their end. During the wait, I had to request a new teapot because the original one didn't filter the tea leaves properly, and our pot was never refilled throughout the meal. Attempts to get the server's attention were ignored. The set itself was mediocre and not worth the $200 for 2 price tag, especially since we had to get more food afterward because we were still hungry. To top it off, we spent 10 minutes trying to get the bill and a takeout box, only to be ignored again. We had to go to the bar out of frustration and waited another 10 minutes for service. Overall, the experience was disorganized and disappointing. I won't be returning.

Yelp
We loved our stay at the W. The room was huge with a convenient sitting area. The luxury bath products were luxurious. The location is excellent with lots of great spots in the area and also the subway underneath. Overall the staff were wonderful. We breezed in around 10:15 pm after sitting in 5 hours of eclipse traffic and kitchens had mostly closed. Tired and stressed, we plunked down at the living room bar and Roche's kindness and chill vibes really made an impression on us. He gave us great recommendations for our stay. We came to toronto with only a lose plan of what to do and between Roche and the concierge walked away with enough recommendations to sustain us through our stay. The skylight lounge was also gorgeous. Definitely more of an upscale vibe but the bartender there was fun too and made up cocktails on the spot for us. Be aware that their self park garage has extremely low ceilings. The valet option was $75 a day so we took the valets suggestion and parked in the surface lot at church and bloor for much less. The only downside is the paper thin walls. You'll hear your neighbor taking a wiz... and their alarm, and so forth. But def would stay here again.

Yelp
The Great! Rooms are high tech (touch screen for blinds, screen, mood lighting, service, temperature). One control is near the door and the other by the bed. - Very Clean, Smell pleasant, luxurious soaps - The Shower, the mist hand held shower was very relaxing - Service, from the moment I was greeted by front desk, to almost every staff I encountered in the corridor's were all friendly -multiple restaurants on site - overnight Security - Gym The Ok: - A bit of a maze, you almost have to run a marathon depending on where your room is located, walked twice, couldn't find the ice machine as the door wasn't label -Walls are thin, I was woken up before my neighbours who were having a good time at 2am. -Internet connection was a hit and miss. - bathroom frosted door does not provide much privacy Tips: Valet is $60.00, Park yourself underground, $12.00 overnight on weekends Download the Marriott app, chat with the hotel, check in, get mobile key. Hotel (Checkin/out) 6th floor

Yelp
New, which is always nice BUT - there are some fundamentals that are poorly considered and/or designed. There is no desk in the room. One low wobbly side table - no way to do work. I asked where there might be a quiet work space in the hotel - there isn't one. All restaurants and bars have music playing so it's not even possible to work or have a call in one of the public spaces. In the room the layout is awkward. The bedside light is on the far opposite side of the bed from where the table is. After showering you have to exit the shower area completely and reach around the door to access a towel. The basin tap placement interferes with logical tooth brushing and hand washing movements. And the sink itself is black, so it shows every drop of soap and toothpaste from first use so looks kind of disgusting all the time. Overall this place just doesn't work for a typical business traveler and seems to me to just be trying too hard to be cool.

Yelp
I hate this hotel. I don't just a little bit hate it. I firmly believe that it is indicative of all that is wrong with the hotel business. I don't say this lightly. This is not a luxury property. I know that somehow Marriott has bunched W in with brands like Ritz Carlton in their loyalty program. It's absurd to think so. They've kept essentially all of the fixtures of its former incarnation as a Marriott property. They added darker wallpaper. They remade the entrance from generally accessible to absurdly-silly-maze-like. They've usurped functional boardrooms and made them into awkward public spaces. They put in an unusable recording studio in the lobby for window decoration. They renamed the all of the 'Staff' to now call them 'Talent'. They're the same humans... just in different costumes. It's a place that tries SO hard to be hip and cool. And they've significantly upper the price tag. It screams 'look at me' but once you look you realize that you're looking at the same pretty pedestrian property that's always been here. The rooms are poorly laid out with mass-market-quality furnishings. Never come here with a spouse or significant other unless you really enjoy watching them in the bathroom. Open concept is not a bad idea by itself, as long as the layout is functional and reasonably well thought out. Walls are paper thin, which isn't as appealing as it is in the movies. You hear things from people in ajoining rooms that you can never unhear. Do you really need the toilet paper to be labelled "Backup Plan"? What was the first plan? To sit in your own filth? I've stayed here twice now, once by choice and once to give it a second chance. I don't think that there will be a third time.

Yelp
I love this hotel It's a bit hard to find but service was good The room was stayed at was an upgrade and the receptionist was so sweet We landed at 10:30 am and it was quite early for check in but they got a room ready for us by 11:30 While we waited they served us a sparkling drink. So thoughtful The room is nice though there should be more bathroom counter The only bad thing is that the hotel forgot to call me when I asked for a wake up call. No worries. We made our early room call The bellhop was the best There was a marathon so the street was blocked and the Uber could not find us. He walked blocks to locate our Uber. Now that is service!!!

Yelp
5 star service, 5 star location, 5 star restaurants. Service to me is in the details, and they get the details right at the W - down to changing the rug in the elevator from good morning to good afternoon to good evening. The staff was all fantastic and restaurants were delicious.

Yelp
First time in Toronto for a mother/daughter trip and this hotel was beautiful, convenient and walking distance to a lot of great places to try. Very impressed with their friendly staff and find their amenities, restaurants, and rooms very creative and unique. It's whimsical decor is fun and inviting! Really quite shocked at some of the negative reviews, but you can't please everyone! To slam a business for its uniqueness and atypical floor plans or improvements is not very nice. I love it here and would consider to stay here again the next time I'm in town!

Yelp
The service here is incredible. Came here for 4 nights to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. Carolyn and Angela made it such an incredibly special stay for us. We got the Studio Suite, 1 king with terrace access. It's absolutely stunning. The room service is great and reasonably priced. Would recommend the charcuterie board and burger. The only caveat to this place is they stop serving liquor at 11:30pm everywhere and all bars. The rooftop bar is SO pretty, but they stop serving hot food at 10pm! Please try all the cocktails you can- these bartenders are so good!! Everyone here is in such a great mood and it's in an awesome location for shopping and eating. Can't wait to stay here again.

Yelp
I guess as a Senior Foodie I was not impressed with the "new & not so improved" W Toronto. I found the layout very confusing & difficult to find one's around, and the Menu items were not to my liking & quite limited. The staff & service was great but........sorry but I will not be back, which makes me very sad as I was a regular visitor to the previous incarnation style Marriott.

Lois G.

Yelp
Entrance to the rooftop lounge was guarded by a pretentious Impossibly tall Asian woman, who acted like she held the velvet rope at the Mudd Club. Wrong vibe. Wrong place. We left.

Yelp
I had an amazing experience at the W hotel. Thanks to John, Georgia and Priscilla for an easy and very helpful experience. You made my job super easy and I appreciate you all.
