Waewae Pounamu

My family and I came to the store to buy some beautiful Pounamu jewelry and gemstones! Kate was so enthusiastic and amazing at guiding us and teaching us about the beautiful tapestry of culture around this stone. We are all super happy with our purchases! Highly recommend :)

A few years ago I was gifted a beautiful taonga from Waewae pounamu. Unfortunately an accident happened and my taonga was damaged. I contacted them and they repaired my precious taonga and had it back to me all in a very short timeframe. I received it back just in time before I left home for major surgery. I am so grateful to have this for a my recovery and cannot believe that they managed to fix this damage. You wouldn't even know that this was once broken! Thank you so much.

We bought such a beautiful piece for my mother’s birthday, she was so happy with it and Aleigha staff member was absolutely lovely! So helpful and quick responses when I had questions and had asked her to hold the piece for us, fast shipping and love that it’s from Ngai Tahu as well!

This is the place to come to get the genuine Pounamu sourced from New Zealand!!! Not only was the service excellent, but the lovely lady (wahine) shop assistant totally understood what I was looking for: Nz flower greenstone, that it had to “call to me,”to make it really special, and that my husband was giving it to me as a gift. I was looking for a specific design; a hook or MATAU. We had driven specifically to Hokitika from Christchurch to obtain this special gift. Having checked out various sellers of Greenstone in Hokitika, we checked out Ngāi Tahu Pounamu and we were very delighted with the quality of worked stone, fantastic modern premises with stunning displays. We were encouraged to hold, try on, and had lots of choice. I settled on beautiful Pounamu, and was super delighted that my MATAU was carved by a talented Wahine called Nikita. One of the first female carvers in the group. Very progressive and making new traditions. This also answered my question on my way up if women carvers were permitted in the trade. Great experience in this store. I rarely give 5 stars but this business gets 5 stars. Prices were great.

Very impressive customer service by Aleigha and the team at Waewae Pounamu. With merely a day turnaround, Waewae responded to my email relating to a sold out product, listened to my requests, had their carver create the piece that I wanted and had it posted internationally with track and trace service. Fast and friendly communication. Highly recommended.

Not cheap of course but if you want qaulity, you pay for it. Spacious shop, lady at the counter was friendly, polite and chatty. We were only passing through town but had a foreign visitor with us so she is now going home with some jade pendants.
