Terrible Experience at Waikiki Beach Marriott
I stayed at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa from February 27 to March 4, and it was by far the worst hotel experience I've had in decades of traveling. It was worse than many youth hostels I've stayed in.
I left a $10 tip daily for housekeeping, but one day they mistakenly took my child's comfort blanket and bed sheet along with the linens. Any family with children knows how devastating this can be for a child. Our journey turned into a nightmare, especially since we were about to embark on a six-month world tour, and losing the blanket right at the start was incredibly disheartening. It's something no amount of money can replace.
When we discovered the loss, we reported it to housekeeping within two hours, and they assured us they would look for it. Several hours passed with no update, so we anxiously went to the front desk, where we were told no one could handle the issue but they would call someone. They contacted the on-duty cleaner who recalled taking the item, as I had left a tip daily and they remembered my room. However, they couldn't help retrieve it because the laundry service was outsourced, and they weren't sure if the linens had already been sent off.
I asked for the address of the laundry service to search for it myself, but they said they would inquire on my behalf. This matter was then forgotten.
The next day, we desperately called the housekeeping manager. This indifferent manager repeated that they would look for it but estimated a response time of three months. I was shocked. In an incident where the hotel was clearly at fault, I did not hear a single apology, nor did I see any attempt at compensation or effort to resolve the issue.
even if you accidentally bump into someone on the street, you should at least say sorry. Your hotel lost a guest's belongings during routine operations, failed to attempt to find it, and never apologized. It felt like our repeated calls were just annoying the managers.
Over three months have passed since this incident, and my son still hasn't forgiven us. We are extremely upset and disappointed.
Very unfortunately, the sleeping bag was only worth $100, or we would have called the police! and perhaps to these hotel employees, it was just an insignificant piece of cloth. However, such irresponsibility towards their work and disregard for guests' property and feelings is something I cannot agree with and will never stay here again. I also advise other potential guests reading this review that your positive experience is just a matter of luck. Should you encounter any mishap, the hotel will not be responsible for you or your belongings.
Finally, thanks to an anonymous employee who saw us anxiously searching and informed us of the truth that the hotel would not help us retrieve the sleeping bag. This saved us from further wasted time and expectations.
