I was very pleasantly surprised by the customer focus and attention from the front desk to the ladies cleaning the rooms. Pam behind the front desk is super awesome and very kind and helpful. The rooms decor awesome, cleanliness very good, size nice. The pool and hot tub awesome and set in a relaxing set up. They also give you beach towels and other perks in the area. I am definitely going back there.

Prime location! Coffee and tea at the front desk are available in the morning. Beach towels are available for use at the front desk. Refillable stainless steel water bottles, one per person and a beach sack, one per room are given to guests. There's a water station for water refill and laundromat. Room rate is very competitive, had a great deal at time of booking. Size of room is decent, comfortable bed, however the bathroom is tight. Housekeeping is every other day. Flushing the toilet is absolutely annoyingly loud. The door closes pretty loudly, too, and the walls thin. Parking is tight. It is better to rent a small vehicle to avoid skinning the sides of your vehicle (witnessed).

It was my first time staying at the property but the staff was beyond friendly and helpful, the property location is perfect -- not in the exact middle of the Waikiki action but very close to it. Everything was clean and I love a coffee maker in the room though there was also coffee in the lobby in the mornings. The pool/hot tub is small so good for little kids - as an adult, I didn't use it but the ocean is so close, why would I? The hotel also had towels at the front desk if you did enjoy the pool so thumbs up. I also had a reasonable rate (it helped it was January when I stayed so not high season) and will definitely stay again.

Waikīkī Malia is only a few blocks from Waikiki Beach and is near many shops and restaurants. It offers beach towels for rental to guests and it has a small swimming pool and a hot tub. It was great for the price even though the room was a bit smaller. We got the room with the ocean view and when we arrived at night, we couldn’t see anything, but in the morning, we could see the view of the ocean amidst tall buildings from our 18th floor balcony. Elevator service was quick. Room service is once every two days. The furnishing is a bit dated and the washroom was very small. The tub drain was also not the best and the water drained slowly after the first day and it was not ideal with four females to a room. Our air conditioner also leaked water on to our bed, but we alerted the staff, we got prompt service for someone to come fix up the problem. The view by the elevator our on to the mountains was spectacular and the sunrise was also jaw dropping. Staff could be a bit more friendly at the front desk but overall, it was a good stay. You can also leave your bags when you check out and pick it up later before your flight. They made an exception to have us do a complimentary late check out (12 pm instead of 10 am) so that we can go for a swim one last time before we head back.

Google
Excellent location in Waikiki close to most tourist attractions in the area. The staff are really helpful and accommodating. The value for money is excellent for this area. I especially liked the hospitality room which they let you use on the check out date to have a shower and/or change clothes if you need to do that after check-out time. It is basically a regular room but without a bed that you can use for an hour (first come - first serve). That's really handy since most flights to the continental states depart late at night. The hotel pool area is nice and cozy. Being almost always in the shade of adjacent buildings, it's really nice to hang out there without being exposed to the sun. Overall, I am leaving a 10/10 review because the service was outstanding for the price paid.

Google
Nice place but would not go back. Almost every hotel requires a resort fee, but with that you get all the goodies. Our wi-fi went out for a few days, called desk and as usual said would take care of it, 3 days later we got our wi-fi back, my teenage son was happy. Only 2 ice machines for an 18 story hotel, also one of the (only 2) microwaves went out and I notified desk again, they did not change it. The pool is a joke, if you are thinking of sitting around the pool with a drink, getting some sun, instead of the beach, the pool is only roughly 8 ft x 24 ft, that it is in a carport to the hotel and there is no room for chairs or sun. The bathrooms as noted, extremely small, if you are a big person, trying to close door would require you so work your way around the toilet to close door. I rented a car for this trip, well aware of the parking price per night, but needed the car. Was hard finding the entrance to the garage, only one way to get in because of one way streets. Going up and down the ramps into the garage was not easy or fun, slow as possible to not scratch small rental car, the ramps are so tight, glad I did not rent SUV. Staff was nice at desk, room ok. Fridge super small, barely hold 2 six packs of soda. I would only stay here if I did not have a car and did not stay much in hotel.

Google
Our experience at Waikiki Malia was amazing. The hotel is clean and has everything you need from a laundromat, beach towels, and a free filtered water dispenser. The room was spacious and modern. The hotel provided my baby with a cot that fit in the room well. I had only positive experiences. Amazing staff who were so friendly and helpful. I highly recommend it!

Google
The hotel was nice. I had a nice room with a pretty good view. The price was fair, and I was a block away from everything, can't beat the location in Waikiki. As other people have mentioned, the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything in the hallways and other rooms. If you're traveling with children, and do not want them to hear other hotel guests reaching completion at midnight, this might not be the hotel for you!

Yelp
Top-notch experience at this value-packed stay! Other than an incredibly brief overnight stay in September of 2017, this was my first time staying in downtown Waikiki. This hotel provided the perfect launchpad to explore bustling downtown Waikiki and had wonderful amenities. My only cautionary note is to be careful if you're traveling with small children as the balcony's can be hazardous with high floors and minimal safety bars/railings. While good for responsible adults, it could be quite easy to fall and result in injury for little children and intoxicated adults. Also, please note parking is available and located adjacent to the hotel. If you have oversized vehicles, there is parking to accommodate them a few blocks away from hotel, however Waikiki parking garages are quite tight, so be careful with those large car rentals! My free Escalade upgrade caused me more of a parking headache and ultimately cost me more out of pocket, due to faulty mechanics the day after I rented it! I recommend opting for a small SUV for exploring Hawaii.

Yelp
We stayed at the Waikiki Malia Hotel over the Thanksgiving holiday, my wife and I, with our daughter and her family (husband and two granddaughters) and I thought the hotel was FABULOUS, and especially for the price!! The hotel is less than 3-blocks from Waikiki Beach, accessed at multiple points of entry including the Sheraton Waikiki Resort where our other daughter, son and grandson stayed. Yes, the restaurant does not have a hotel restaurant per se, but literally just outside the hotel, within a 5-10 minute walk, you have so many options to eat, shop, eat, shop, eat shop, . . . . . attend a luau, go to Mass, eat, shop, eat shop, etc. Also, there are probably ~10 ABC stores in that same distance where you can buy anything!! And there is a Target, YES, a Target in the same walking distance!! The hotel does NOT have a fabulous pool, it's no larger than most hot tubs, but you can be at the beach ~10 minutes and the hotel will give you beach towels. The bathrooms are a little small, as well as closet space, but the dresser is HUGE. The patios are small without chairs to sit outside, but, okay - the views are great!! The staff were absolutely wonderful, helpful and attentive. I would definitely return to this hotel because I'd rather spend less on a hotel room and use it for great eating and shopping and time at the beach!!

Karen A.

Yelp
Waikiki Malia is a five minute walk away from the beach. The room itself is average, the decor--dated. The restroom is on the small size, especially the shower. If you are on the bigger side whether horizontally or vertically then you may find it uncomfortable. They do have a decent size hot tub but a dinky size pool. If you're over six feet tall you can probably get a few strokes in before hitting the wall. A laundry room is on site as well as a small fitness area, and across the street are several places to eat (not too fancy). What stood out to me at this hotel was the excellent service. All staff members were friendly and welcomed you every time they saw you with a warm smile. It made me feel like I was staying at an aunt or uncle's house. For this reason, I'm giving it 4 stars; otherwise it would've been a 3.

Grace B.

Yelp
Did not like the service overall, facility like swimming pool needs cleaning and there's other facilities that you can enjoy

David M.

Yelp
Nice if you do not have a rental car. Hotel nice, staff friendly, only pro's. Cons, very small bathroom, resort fees for barely anything, extremely difficult parking area, pool only 8ft by 25 ft, enough for 5 kids, no place to lay out. Wi-fi went out for 3 days, only 2 ice machines on a 18th story hotel. Fridges hold only 2 six packs of soda, smaller than normal room fridges. Staff friendly, they clean rooms every 2 days. Not their fault, but lady in room next to us, screaming at her husband at 3:30am, called desk, next day, other side, people talking loudly when getting back from bar, late at night. Nice but would not go back.

Yelp
My trip to Hawaii was gonna be fun and special, and one of the main things you need to be certain of is where you and your friends will stay at. For us, Waikiki Malia was the best bet, and I'm happy to say we had the best time here, and the hotel was on top of most things during our one week stay Our room was clean, tidy and equipped with all the essentials, with an outside view as an amenity. Close to the main lobby, you have access to a 4 ft pool and a warm spa. You have a phone to call Lobby, and the staff is friendly If I decide to revisit Waikiki, hotel Malia has a returning customer

Santana W.

Yelp
They never responded to my TWO polite emails for customer support, even though they provide their email address after doing a booking. I'm on a 4-hour time zone difference, so email communication (versus phone) is important to be an option. When I checked out they told me my deposit was refunded immediately, but they NEVER REFUNDED my deposit!!! Even after emailing them about it! Also - I really regret booking this hotel and not listening to the reviews that mentioned how horrendous the parking garage was. I drove a Ford Mustang convertible (very small car) and was still barely able to fit in there. $767 for 3 nights PLUS a deposit is ridiculous for what I received, and I would never stay here again.

Yelp
First time staying at this hotel. It was in a very good location with walking distance to all the shopping centers, restaurants and Waikiki beach. We were in the newly remodeled rooms so it was very clean and fresh. We had a little fridge for in the room so that was great! Wish there was a microwave like some other hotels which they don't but they do offer a shared microwave on a different floor. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Would stay definitely here again!

Yelp
No complains. It's definitely not a 5 star hotel, the decor in the room is old & dated, but it's clean, quiet, & roaches & bed bugs free. Very little noise, unless you open your curtain & window. Parking is very tight, if you have a large vehicle. Max height is 6 feet something. There's only 1 way in/out. So be careful. I had a jeep grand Cherokee, & I made it up/down to the 5th floor just fine. You have to swing very wide though. Entrance to garage is on Lewers St on the right, which is one way only. So you must approach it from Kalakaua Ave, then left on Lewers St. Gym & laundromat are on the 5th floor. There's a charge of $30ish per day for something. Reading other reviews in 2023, there's complains about parking, but I experience no such problem with my parking. Maybe they changed it? Close to everything. Fireworks is every Friday at the Hilton. If you have a car, eat what the locals eat, instead of eating anything on the boardwalk. Only exception is Marukame Udon. Every shop on the boardwalk is expensive, overpriced, small food portion. If you have a car, try Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery for delicious, cheap dim sum. Drive Inn's are great, like Kalihi, Gina's, Cafe Kalawe, Soon's Kal Bi. This is my 2nd visit & I loved the island vibe, & the lush flora. Will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Hi , We spend 2 nights at hotel not bad , but AC not working also bathroom is very small also no AC there . We were waiting for room also 5 hours. Nobody said something.

Ken L.

Yelp
My family stayed at the Malia for 11 days / 10 nights. It wasn't a flashing hotel but it had all the right amenities at the right price. Pros: * They provide 2 complementary metal half liter water bottles and you can refill them at the lobby for free. * There is a jacuzzi by the lobby you can use until 9pm. Great for after walking around all day to relax those muscles. * There is a lap pool (sort of) as well. * It's at the heart of Waikiki and just steps from anywhere you want to go. * Normal coffee maker, mini-fridge, shower/tub. * Provide "green" alternative where you have housekeeping come once a week and save $10/night. You can still ask for fresh towels and toiletries every night as needed. * Gym is nice. Not very big but also not crowded at all. I usually only see one other person using the equipment whenever I was there. * We were with our kids so we were able to get a two suite rooms with an adjoining door which was nice. * Complementary beach towels were available every day at the lobby (for use but not to keep). I just grabbed a couple in the morning and when I'm done at the end of the day, there is a drop off at the lobby. * Complementary coffee at the lobby. * Google Chromecast available on their TV (works also for iOS devices). So you're not stuck watching regular cable but instead your own subscription streaming service (Netflix, Prime, YouTube TV, Apple+, etc...) Cons: * It's an older hotel but certain towers have been renovated. As long as your room is above the 5th floor, you should be okay. *Microwave and ice maker only on the 9th floor (if needed). Overall a great experience. The staff is super friendly and always helpful. One special thanks goes to the housekeeping staff and Janette Lee (the director). We had forgotten our cash in the safe and after flying out to the mainland, called to see if anyone had picked it up. Not expecting much, they actually said they had our cash. I had to provide a FedEx label but they were able to send the money back to me. This alone has made me a lifetime fan of Waikiki Malia. I will definitely consider them for our next stay in Waikiki. Thanks again Janette and your staff for your outstanding honesty and service! Hoping my family and I can visit soon.

Terry C.

Yelp
I gotta say, when I first read about the Waikiki Malia (WM) it was pretty mixed. I didn't have high expectations of the place. It was basically you get get what you paid for. After staying there for 4 nights I felt that this place was pretty good. The place looks very nice and almost posh. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We asked for extra towels since we had a big group and they provided the towels. When you walk out your right on Kuhio ave and only a block or two from Kalakuna Ave. you're right in the middle of the action. Waikiki beach is about a 15 minute walk for us because of the kids. Might be faster for others. The room is small but it works. We had two beds the room was very clean. The TV in the room is much bigger than you see at hotel. Our room 1615 had a semi view of the ocean and buildings but it was a very nice view. The AC was nice and chilled the room fast. Easy to control. With that said, the problem I had with the room and the adjoining rooms is that the AC itself is loud. Regardless whether it was a low setting or a high setting it was the same speed and the AC run for 5 minutes and stop and be back on like 3 minutes each time. SOME SHOUTING MAYBE REQUIRED. The bathroom is nice. The only problem I have with it is that the shower. The fixture we have is the handheld shower. You can grab it and shower and hook it back. Accept the thing that holds the shower is worn out and often falls down. They do provide parking at $35 a night. If your vehicle is a minivan or a 4x4 you're regulated to the 2nd floor. The space is tight and I recommend backing into your parking spot versus heading in. ***To get to the garage you will not want to listen to the GPS. Kuhio Ave is one way and the entry for the garage is not on Kuhio but on Lewers St, a one way street. If you are driving in from somewhere you will want to get onto Kalakua Ave and turn Left on Lewers St to gain access to the garage. If you're gonna drop off family/friends at the front door be careful of the pedestrians walking around. The minus part about parking is that it's tight and it's a two way ramp meaning that if you're going up that ramp there's a chance a car could be coming down at the same time. Luckily that didn't happen during my stay. The WM does provide a pool and a jacuzzi/hot tub. You can adjust the hot tub temp that is located on a wall. The pool is small and it never really gets the sun which I've read people complain about. Personally I think it works especially on really hot days and you've been in the sun for a while. This is perfect to cool down. The bad part about the pool is not the lack of sun and size but really the stairs to enter the pool. It's four steps and the edges of the steps can cause bruising as they are sharp. If it was rounded out I think you won't need to bring a shin guard to the pool. There are plenty of food options around the area but if you're really wanting to go wild there's a IHOP next door. If you want to do laundry it's $5.25 to wash your clothes. $4.75 to dry the clothes. Some of the machines takes coins and some take coin and cards. Detergent is $2.00 and dryer sheets are $1.75. You can get two loads and the dryer sheets are two in one box. The washing machine takes 32 minutes to wash. Normal drying takes 57 minutes. Laundry is located on the 5th floor along with the exercise room and ice machine and microwave. Which leads me to this. One of the big negatives I have with this place is that the ice machine and microwave are located on the 5th and 15th floor. Though I've heard there maybe one on the 9th? It's annoying having to go down to the 15th floor and get ice only to find out that it's empty half the time. That's what happens when you only have like two ice machines for the entire hotel. It would be nice to have them on every floor to avoid trying to win the ice lottery, I got a quarter of a cup. As for the microwave. You'll get to meet some people while waiting for the microwave. Maybe it's the hotel way of getting people to talk? Room service won't stop by your room and change sheets unless you're there for more than two nights. The WM is a nice place. I think there were a lot of positives with this place. I think this place is perfect for those who just need a place to stay and get to the beach quickly. If you're wanting a place to party this place isn't big enough and you might also need to buy some ice since you're not gonna get much with the ice machines. I would recommend this place and I would book it again in the future. As for the loud noises due to Waikiki action...THE AC WILL DROWN OUT THAT NOISE.

Ruth W.

Yelp
It's a motel. The room has a strong smell not sure if it is perfume. The Windows are not noise canceling so it's very noisy. They have a washer. They have two towers so it's complicated to find another tower. The parking is far away and changes 30 something.

Tiffany H.

Yelp
The staff are friendly and welcoming! We arrived before check in, but there were no rooms available. However we were able to leave our bags and look around town until check in. The lobby was clean and smell like fresh shea butter. Check in was smooth. We received info about the hotel pool hours, ice machine and microwave locations , and we were given a small souvenir reusable bag for each room. Our rooms was located on the 17th floor. The hallway on 17th floor has a pungent unpleasant smell. The rooms are good size with a nice small view from patio. It's one of the renovated rooms. The room did have an odor (mildew-ish) , crumbs in a chair, a leak over the small round table in one room. The other room odor was stronger but no leaks or crumbs. I disinfected the room and bathroom. The towels were not clean, so I had them replaced. Took around 20 minutes for fresh towels. No complaints there. Staff was super friendly. I used my travel size Febreeze daily and let air in from Patio daily to help with odor. I used Lysol wipes daily in the bathroom because there is no ventilation. The beds are comfortable, but the mini fridge is loud. It sounds like a shower is running. It works though. AC can drown out the fridge noise. Helped me sleep and I didn't need to wear my headphones to bed. I have noise sensitivity and tinnitus, so those sounds are helpful for me but may be an issue for others. At night, there is a bit of noise from the neighborhood. There is a lot of good food spots open late so it's understandable. We did not park in their garage since we rented a large SUV that came with free parking three blocks away. The garage is small/one lane for entering and exiting and they charge a daily fee. It's not hard to get in and out if you're the only car. Not enough for two cars to enter and exit at the same time . Drive carefully if you plan to park at hotel. The pool is small (3ft deep) and cute. They give towels at front desk and pool area has water station to refill water bottles. Hotel Malia is not the worse hotel, and it is not a luxury hotel. It has amazing customer service and they did refund the resort fee due to room odor. We left our room cleaner than we received it. Hopefully the next person who gets the room will be more pleased. If you plan on being out most of your stay, it's a good deal. No bed bugs; we checked at arrival. Overall, staff is amazing! Rooms and bathroom could use some proper ventilation. The hotel feels safe as you need your keycard to access your room floor once on elevator . I would consider staying again if they can get rid of the smell. Hopefully this review helps the hotel with necessary changes and those looking for an affordable hotel with excellent service.

Dennis W.

Yelp
Alaska airlines sent us here after canceling our flight. Hotel Malia is nothing fancy compared to the nicer resorts near the beach, but it provides reasonable value, and it is centrally located. Clean rooms. International Market is just around the corner, as are several other restaurants. Staff very helpful with the difficult situation we were in.

Carmen S.

Yelp
I always use this hotel in Oahu when I go there for my doctor's appt. This time I booked a room for my daughter & her kids with me last weekend 12/2-12/3. I for one did not like the room. It was old and the beds were not comfortable & the pillows were flat & old. I don't understand why the booking agent I spoke to put me in a 1star motel looking room. We still stayed overnight since the kids were tired. We checked out early the next day since we were uncomfortable with the accommodation & went back home to Maui. Update 12/7/23: After this review, the hotel conducted a thorough inspection of the room I stayed in and called me to update me. They apologized for the inconvenience I experienced. I was so pleased with their quick action. Very impressed!! Now that's the customer service I have not seen in a long time. They also informed me that they are going to renovate the whole hotel. I will continue staying with them whenever I'm in Oahu!! Their action towards my experience was priceless.

Steven K.

Yelp
The staff are excellent, friendly and very patient. The property s clean, well maintained. The pool is super small, but other than that it's really nice.

Tanya A.

Yelp
The hotel is in a really good spot if you don't want to drive. The staff is very friendly and attentive, especially Pam at the front desk . She was super sweet and helpful to us.

Janey Y.

Yelp
3.5 stars for affordable pricing/ central location! This hotel is centrally located in Waikiki and there is parking available (you can pay for the specific nights you have your rental car). Parking is tight! For those who want to utilize their public biking system, there is a Biki within a block to the hotel. Rooms need some updating with regard to carpeting but other than that, TV/ furniture were ok. Bathroom could be larger but given Hawaii, I cannot complain. We stayed in a room with ocean view and it offered a very small balcony. Room came with a refrigerator. Microwave was only located on one floor out of the entire building, and ice machines weren't on every floor. Bell service was available to help bring our luggages up. Swimming pool available is small; due to COVID conditions, it requires reservations. Like most hotels in Waikiki they also have towel service so you don't need to worry about using your hotel towels for for the beach. Overall, I would stay again.

Joshua M.

Yelp
I don't like to leave bad reviews. But I wish hotels would disclose all the charges before your stay. If they told me I'd be spending an additional 30$ a day on a "amenities fee" for "WI-FI & any cleaning or towels" and an additional 35$ a day on parking. Which also wasn't disclosed to me until near end of my stay when the tab was already ran up. Maybe I wouldn't leave a review. I have a 3 strike policy and this place was comfy, but very slick with their tactics to charge people extra. So when you come here don't expect to get your deposit back. Add that extra 100$ to the "overall expenses"

K. M.

Yelp
Highly recommend Waikiki Malia for your stay on this beautiful island. We requested a room with a kitchenette and they were able to kindly accommodate us. It looks like those types of rooms are located in the older tower but not sure if the new remodeled tower has kitchenettes. What I like about this hotel is that it's within walking distance of everything. We were able to walk to the beach, plenty of restaurants, and enjoy the night life. They also provide morning coffee and activities. Their pool is a little small and not that deep but it'll due if you just want to relax and unwind. The parking garage might be a little tough if you are driving a larger vehicle. You can see the scratch marks that cars have left due to the pathway being very narrow. Luckily, my husband was able to maneuver our Camry without scratching it but just be wary of the parking lot. House keeping was great! We hardly left anything dirty, just required the usual towels and toilet paper and change of trash bags which they did on the daily. As far as amenities, the work out room is on the fifth floor which you'll need to access through the parking lot. It's quite small, it's fine for a quick workout on the treadmill. They keep a water cooler in there in case you get thirsty. The laundry room is next to the gym. Make sure to bring plenty of quarters or change your bills to coins with their coin machine. It's very expensive to wash and dry so be mindful of how many times you'll wash. I hope that their new tower with the remodeled rooms will come with kitchenettes. If so, I would stay here again if a room with that feature is available.

Jay C.

Yelp
Me & my fiancé just stayed at this hotel Sept.17th -23rd 2023 & found it way over prized for what they offer. Parking is $35 per night which good luck driving in their small parking structure. 3" on both side in their one way drive way. When pulling into the parking space everyone will need to exit the car to be able to properly park. I almost had to jump out of my window at one point. Im just glad nobody hit my rental opening the doors. Daily Amenity Fee $31.85 which is not optional. Next vacation I definitely will be doing an Air b&b or booking somewhere else.

Dee T.

Yelp
Great place to stay! Reasonable rates and remodeled rooms. Great experience from check-in!! Greeted by pleasant staff. Quick, easy check-in process. Conveniently located near bus lines, lots of food and shopping options! We were able to walk to Int'l Marketplace and Waikiki Shopping Center. Added bonus: hotel location was super close to pick-up spots for a few tours we booked. Would totally recommend staying at Hotel Malia!!!

Yelp
Its a nice resort, very decent . U get a nice stay. Not lux but very neat and clean just like the photos. We had to stay extra night in Honolulu because we missed our flight to LA and there not a decent place where u can spend the night in the airport so it was last minute reservation just to sleep the night 212 $ with tax included 2 people . Very affordable I really recommend it for those who want visit Honolulu and save on resorts. Its ver clean and neat i loved it

Kelsha H.

Yelp
Stayed here a lot throughout the years. Didn't know they just got renovated?! Last time I stayed in a regular room was back in 2020, it was very dingy, old, dated, had a weird smell. Upon checking in I was prepared for their old rooms, BUT I WAS BEYOND SHOCKED. WOW WOW WOW. Super modern, clean, everything and I mean everything is brand new. I love it. And for the kamaaina room rates, it's simply unbeatable. Note: they must update their photos on their booking website asap.

Robert K.

Yelp
Well ended up booking this place because the price seemed pretty decent. Nice central location and very nice staff here. Well I do now see why the price was a but more cheaper than most would like. The beds are pretty hard and with about the pillows felt like bricks. Please I do hope they upgrade the pillows and beds in the future. The pool area is very small and not where I would want to hang out because the beach is just down the street. The shower definitely needs an upgrade as it seems like it was from the 90s. Also a pretty small bathroom as well the door seems like it will hit the toilet so if you do need a bigger bathroom for things this wouldn't be for you.

Yelp
I booked this hotel as a package with our flight. I was specifically looking for a hotel with 3 beds, not a sofa or rollaway and close enough to the beach. They had a room with 3 beds so this is why I selected this hotel. It's about a 10 minute walk from the beach. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room we had seemed a bit older but served its purpose. The walls are thin so when our neighbors came in very loud at 1AM we could hear them yelling, laughing and singing. They woke us up multiple times. Once they checked out and someone else occupied the room next to us the noise level was much better.

Yelp
This is an average hotel. If you want a more affordable option then the big hotels down by the beach they charge four to $500 a night, this is your place with rates from 200 to 300 a night. This would be considered average rates. There is no view from our room of the ocean, even though we are up 12 floors. The location is pretty central to lots of shopping a couple of Starbucks, restaurants and an ABC store on the corner. The walk to the beach is probably 10 to 12 minutes, so it's worth it if you want to save some money. The staff is polite and friendly and accommodating. The parking is sketchy. There's a very narrow ramp that gets you up to the parking area in the back of the hotel with very small parking areas so if you have a small car, it works OK. But, if you have a large car or a van, you're gonna have some problems. My suggestion is to just Uber or Lyft everywhere on the island. Save yourself some rental car money.

Yelp
4 stars for its price range. Stayed one night using the Kamaaina special. Parking is tenuous, the ramp is off Lewers Ave and very narrow. Don't be a truck! If you do, you'll be offered to park on the first parking level (on the second floor). Check-in was quick, the foyer a little small. The hot tub and pool area clean but also small. The pool was slightly larger than the hot tub. I got a Waikiki town view, not really caring so the view didn't matter to me. Malia offers suites and connectable suites, many extended families here for spring break. Everything was clean, a little dated. Of note: the sister hotel the Beachcomber has USB ports everywhere in a room, NOT ONE found at the Malia, so come prepared with a cube.

Yelp
Traveling to Hawaii my first time with a friend, and we thought Waikiki Malia was a good location. First when we checked in, the price / deposit was wrong. We were charged a different amount than when we booked the reservation, and the person checking us in wasn't doing anything to help us see what was wrong, despite showing him the receipt of the booking. Then our second night we came back, exhausted, and the parking garage in the hotel, that we had to pay for ahead of time, was oversold and full. We were informed by the parking attendant we would have to drive a few blocks away, park there, then walk back to him to validate the ticket. But it wouldn't cost extra... We followed his directions as he instructed and went into a garage titled Waikiki, parked the car, walked back about 5 minutes carrying our bags in flip flops only to be told it was the wrong garage. That there are two garages there, and we went to the wrong one. Never once mentioning beforehand that there were two different ones, one named Waikiki parking, the other Waikiki plaza. So, if you can find another spot in the area, I say take it. Nothing here so far seems to be worth the price we paid. He then became rude,

Yelp
Upon first checking in our first room smelled of sewage, I called the front desk and was moved to another room across the hall on the 10th floor. This room had tiny bugs crawling all over the top of the drawer, and the floors as well. The manager was nice enough to move us to another room & remove our resort fee for the duration of our stay. Parking was also a nightmare. I would give our stay 1 star, but i'm giving it 2 stars just because of how sweet the staff was. You truly get what you pay for.

Yelp
The tower they put me in was not renovated and the dirt and black mold where the fridge was made me sick. There were bed bugs. The beds were not comfortable. It was really bad. The size of the TV was good and the hot tub was nice.

Yelp
Found this hotel to be near a lot of shopping and dining. Was clean, the beds were great and the rooms clean with a small balcony. The water pressure was good too. Great place for our vacation.

Yelp
You get what you pay for. I had to extend my stay in Oahu since Maui had the wildfire. So I needed to find a last minute booking since most hotels were booked. Customer service in person is great, but if you have a problem and decide to email them about it, good luck. They will take more than a week to respond to you or until you keep emailing them about the problem. They still haven't refunded my $100 deposit that they said was refundable and it's been almost a month. The stay was convenient and clean. Room service is great. Bathroom was clean. Walls are very shallow. You can hear people's conversations very loud and clear next door. Fitness center and laundry room is on the 5th floor in the parking structure Shared microwave on the 9th and 15th floor. I don't understand how my room was a city view when I only saw a building wall when I went outside my tiny balcony lol Parking is behind the building which you have to get through two one-way streets to access the parking structure. It's self-parking, no valet for $35. If you have a compact car, parking is fine. But be careful if you have an SUV. Getting up and down the ramp is very scary and makes loud screeches as it it very narrow. Also, parking Spaces are very tight. I felt very uncomfortable driving my car in and out of this parking structure. Almost scraped the SUV I rented. I like that this hotel is of walking distance from the beach, dining, and shopping centers. Overall, I would most likely not stay here again.

Yelp
Hmmmm. I thought I was supposed to be checking into a nice "resort". I was wrong. The walls are dirty, I think my baby balcony at one time must have been on fire...I think there's smoke damage. The worst thing is.. As the wind is blowing outside- right now- the building is cracking and making angry noises. I'm a little worried. I asked the security guard what's going on and he said it's normal. I called the front desk- no one answered. The building is still creaky cracking. I hope there's no repeat of Miami. I'm a little scared

Yelp
Staying here. My wife went to get ice and put the lid on the shelf of the ice machine. The lid fell off and they charged us $50 for a cheap plastic lid. Rip off. Never staying here again. Staff was great but $50 for a cheap piece of plastic is ridiculous. No sooner did I post this and they called and said they're only charging us $25. Still high for a plastic lid.?

Yelp
As as resident of the island, we enjoy staycation like everyone else. Booked Waikiki Malia because my uncle has stayed there for many many years. Upon arrival, the wife and I were met by a front services young lady "Brenda" who was about as stoned face and monotone as you could get!! I did not understand what she was saying about a slight misunderstanding about preparing prior to us actually arriving. We were told to show proof of our bank statement payment and to go online to prove otherwise. Didn't want an argument so we obliged by throwing down the credit card for more payment, which to me was not a problem, but not getting an explanation as to the process since this was me and my wife's first hotel stay living in the islands most of our lives. Housekeeping somehow missed our turn down service even with the towel service sign put out....they must have thought it was a DO not disturb sign which it was not!!! Had to call for towels and even tipped the young man who brought them up!!.Not even a replenishment of the standard amenities!!! Upon checking out, explained to "Pam" who was simply wonderful and she explained in detail protocol prior to us checking in, how simple a concept to take the time and patience to explain to my wife and I how it works!!!! Pam was was the bright spot of our stay at the "WAIKIKI MALIA"!!!! ONE THING FOR SURE, WE WILL NEVER EVER STAY AT THAT HOTEL AGAIN!!! OH, AND EVEN THE PARKING ATTENDANT WAS VERY PLEASANT!!!! WE WILL SPEND OUR DOLLARS SOMEWHERE ELSE EVEN IF ITS TWICE THE COST BECAUSE OF THE SHEAR EXPERIENCE!!! BETTER RETRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES ABOUT HOW A SMILE CAN GO A LONG LONG WAY WITH A DASH OF PATIENCE!!! MUCH MAHALOS, PAU VENT!!!!

Yelp
Nice place with a clean rooms and safe parking. I had not stayed here in years and came back for a locals special. It felt updated, clean and comfortable like an Outrigger property. I hope my pictures convey the cleanliness more accurately than some of these other pictures on line that do not look so inviting. Great location, close enough to the beach and a couple blocks off for better pricing. The room was quiet (16th flr) and a/c was cool & quiet. I live where it is loud so it's a real treat to hear quietness! The blackout drapes work really well and I had a great night's sleep for a change. This room had a tiny balcony which was enjoyable despite the small size. The city view is nice there and we could see the mountains. Lots of greenery in the view and birds in the morning. There were some good views of the ocean, Royal Hawaiian and mountains up here from the common windows. The fridge size is helpful. Our regular double-room (2 double beds, not queens) had a counter/bar area and that was nice to set food & drinks out on, perfect if you want to set up a cake & decorations, drinks, treats or breakfast items. One of the few pools in Waikiki that is actually relaxing and quiet with just enough shade. There's a good chance you can have the whole area to yourself. I appreciate the side card entrance to save some steps. The only thing I dislike about this place is that it was a hassle to check in. All guests had to come to the reception counter with ID to check into the room. It doesn't appear to be a Covid thing. Makes sense if you're checking in for a week from off island but if you are local and spending the night, more of a hassle. I wanted to surprise my daughter and have everything put away or set up before she arrived. Despite that, the front desk manager and other staff are warm and polite. I love the styles at the local bikini shop but it's closed for Covid right now. It would be handy for families to stay here for McDonald's in the Turner building and I-hop in the hotel building. Also Rivals bar is a good spot for the adults to watch sports. Note: Room doors do not have the extra security swing bar guards if you are a mom who expects those but it does have a feature that turns off the ability to enter by key card.

Yelp
We enjoyed this cute hotel! Newly renovated and very friendly staff!!! Only knocking off a star because the parking is scary if you have a bigger vehicle! The driveway is really narrow and super tight turns. We had a mini van and we dreaded parking daily! Once we parked, we didn't leave for the night. But luckily there are a lot of restaurants within walking distance of Waikiki Malia! If it wasn't for the parking situation- we would definitely stay here the next time we visit Oahu!

Yelp
Guest services are friendly, location is great! BUT has long hairs in the bathtub and sink. Open empty soda can in the refrigerator. They should have cleaned everything before letting another guest checked in.

Yelp
My husband and I have stayed here twice in the past year and I literally just booked another stay for this summer! It is perfect for us. Walking distance to EVERYTHING! (Dining, beaches, shopping..... The staff is super friendly and accommodating. They'll have our loyalty for a looooong time!

Irwin J.

Yelp
Very friendly and helpful staff. There's a neat little hot tub/pool combo tucked away inside the lobby. The water machine is really cool, some 7 step filtering process that ends with coconut osmosis. Stayed in a double room and it was nice with a bathtub and a little balcony. The tv was really big and the room had 3 lamps plus an overhead by the desk space. No bible in the bedside dresser here. Nice location!

Monica J.

Yelp
Nickel and dime you for everything. I asked if I could stay 2 hours past 11 am check out and the front desk told me it would be 20 bucks! The pool is more like a big tub where the sun doesn't even hit it. No ice machine and the water that they provide is a filtration water fountain. They don't even provide you with water bottles so you can refill. I will NOT stay here again, nor will I recommend to family and friends! Stay elsewhere!

Yelp
It took me so long to write this, but I want to save someone the pain I had to go through. If you're getting married DO NOT STAY HERE! When did I stay here? July 16 -18, 2021 Why not to stay here? - They charge you double. My dad booked it because they offered local discount. They charged my dads card twice for my room. It was his wedding surprise for me and my wedding party. We had to go back and forth trying to remove the charge. - Wouldn't let me check in with my party without my dad since his card was used for the room but under my name. - Almost kicked out my make up artist and photographers when they arrived. I had to go down to the lobby in my pajamas and explain to the front who they were. Before booking my father did clarify with them that I planned to do a pre-bridal photo shoot and they said they'll note it down and that they were allowed upstairs in our room. - Manny was rude as heck and passive aggressive. When I asked for a new card for my room since it wasn't working, he threw one at me and made me pick it up from the ground Most of the staff was unwelcoming and horrible. The room was dirty and it smelt like cigarettes. Totally ruined my vibe on my wedding day. The only reason I gave it 1 star is because of the pool and the lady who checked us out of the hotel when we were leaving.

Yelp
I went back to this hotel again in March 2022 and once again this place has earned another 5 stars. All staffs are once again friendly and helpful. Vitor, Ken, Troy, and Brain are always amazing!! The hotel is super clean and zero issue! Great customer service. Overall just perfect!! BTW the night security guard is very helpful!!!

Yelp
Excellent stay! We booked this hotel through Costco travel. When we arrived, we were quickly checked in and informed of all the nice amenities of the hotel. The hotel has a cute small pool with a hot tub, and a gym. Everything was available with some covid protocols which I greatly appreciated. We stayed for 6 nights and got a great price, it's only a couple blocks from the beach. This was for my anniversary with my love. Upon entering the room, we were greeted by Susanna, a super friendly maid! She had laid out some beautiful towel folded swans kissing each other on the bed with Rose pedals scattered on the sheets and also a box of Hawaiian chocolates that were so good, along with a greeting letter. The room was very clean and shower water was real hot. Susanna really made this hotel experience for us the best, she seemed to always be around asking if we needed any help with anything at all. My girl got super bad sunburn a few days into our stay and she guided me to the ice area so I could fill up some bags and help her. Sheets, towels, soaps, coffee, were always renewed. They offer the option to leave your towels hung up if you don't want them replaced to save water, we chose that for the planet! Another thing I really appreciated was the fact that last minute we had realized we booked a tour during the time we needed to check out and were really concerned we would have to drag our luggage around, but the front desk lets you store all your own belongings safely in a storage room they have on site. They allowed us to extend our checkout time for a very affordable hourly price. They also have another shower, just in case you want to go hit the beach and come back to clean up before your flight. Definitely worth a stay! Thank you again Susanna, this employee deserves a RAISE! We had to leave her a tip! -- Joshua Michael Diaz & Justine Vivian

Yelp
Staff and room were nice; location was extremely central as we were walking distance to everything in Waikiki.wish the pool was more outdoor with some sun exposure but was adequate for our stay.

Rachel C.

Yelp
At first I was disappointed I couldn't get a hotel on the beach. But, this hotel is pretty centrally located to Waikiki. A few blocks to the beach and Waikiki beach walk, surrounded by amazing restaurants and stores. Although we had a rental, we didn't use it much as we were able to walk to most places. Rooms are good, small and slightly outdated, but housekeeping keeps them super clean. We ended up very happy with our stay! I highly recommend if you don't mind walking to your destinations in Waikiki.
