This was our first visit to the Sheffield Waitrose for a while and it was an unmittigated disaster almost from start to finish.
We started our visit with a spot of early lunch. Despite the restaurant being fairly quiet, the wait for food was ridiculously long. The staff explained that one of the two food ovens wasn't working. It took almost 30 minutes for our two bacon rolls to be brought to our table.
To make the wait even worse, there didn't seem to be any heating on in the restaurant area at all. It was so cold I had to keep my sheepskin coat and gloves on! (I wasn't alone in that regard, all visitors seemed to be doing the same.)
Having eaten our lunch, we needed to visit the toilets before doing our shopping. That's where the next disaster occurred.
As I was washing my hands in the Gents, in walked three women. Apparently the women's toilets were unable to be used as they were closed off, along with the disabled toilets!
The shopping experience was equally disappointing with the store being very cold indeed.
To put the top hat on the whole visit, the prices were very expensive. A bag of organic carrots, one organic cabbage, a small bag of organic potatoes and a tub of duchy organic Greek yoghurt totted up to £7.20, which seemed a lot to me. I almost decided not to buy it.
Now, I've been a Waitrose customer for a number of years, and I know food retail has become a competitive battlefield these days but I've had better shopping experiences in Aldi recently compared to today's visit to Waitrose. Other than the wonderfully polite staff, it makes you wonder whether Waitrose are taking customer loyalty for granted. 🤔
