This Japanese Inn (Ryokan) is ideally situated in the heart of Narita and directly opposite the Naritasan Temple Park which is really beautiful and would be stunning in cherry blossom time. You can easily spend several hours here as the park has many temples and lots of lovely walking paths. ||The hotel staff are really friendly and helpful. The rooms are a good size and comfortable. The warm seated toilet is amazing!. The segregated (male/female) onsen (Japanese bath) is very good and a great way to start/finish your day. The restaurant (we pre booked breakfast and dinner) is a wonderful experience and a Japanese culinary delight. Certainly the dinner is well worth booking for at least one night.||The hotel is on the main walking street which leads up to Narita station. There are many great restaurants and interesting shops along the way well worth perusing. It is worth seeing where the queues are forming at lunch time and then waiting for them to subside. The locals know the best places to eat!||Wakamatsu Honten is a relatively short (20 minute) taxi ride from Narita International Airport and costs about Yen$4500/5000 making this an easy and interesting place to stay for a few days and have as a layover breaking those long international flights.

Super cute, traditional Japanese rooms. Lovely staff. Had a huge room with a sitting room and a bedroom with futons already laid out. Sliding paper screens, modern toilet, a view of the temple across the street. Building is old with a lot of charm. Breakfast was super tasty and healthy with a lot of dishes laid out in our room. Had a great time. Hot water and tea was waiting for us in our room and the porters brought our luggage up for us. Can't complain.

The staff was incredibly courteous and allowed us to drop off our luggage early before check in and by the time we got there to check in it was waiting in our room upstairs. Dinner is very traditional served fresh and the lady serving us was something else I swear she never stopped running she was serving 3 tables and it felt like I had personal service she was that on top of everything from towels to drinks she didn't disappoint. The hotel is located next to a lot of little shops but they all close kinda early by western standards between 5 and 6 pm but it's still enjoyable to stroll through. Also an amazing temple is literally across the street providing a spectacular view.

Very peaceful, authentic, traditional, hospitable Japanese Inn "ryokan" for modern times close to Narita.|Enjoy the hot spring bath "onsen" and don't forget to take your towel from your room with you. Wear just your hotel supplied kimono-like robe to and from, plus your room slippers.|This is a great introduction to Japan. A huge Buddhist temple complex across the road has beautiful gardens and buildings attached.|Japanese breakfast in your room, too.|Futon mattresses on Tanami flooring may be hard to navigate and enjoy for old bones like mine. But adds to ambience too. Took a taxi from airport rank and paid fare of 4500 yen for two plus luggage, so worked out well, about 25 minute trip.

This place is a perfect place to stay if you stay in the area or if you fly from Narita airport. After a long trip in Japan jumping from on city to another this place felt like a dream. We stayed 2 nights before going back to Portugal and I couldn’t ask for better.

Stayed here as we needed to be at Narita Airport at 630am the next day. The area was quaint and pleasant with small shops and cafes. The accommodation was comfortable and clean, our room had no shower (only toilet). We went to the indoor public bath at the accommodation to take a shower and soak in the bath. Overall a great stay! Thanks to the reception for helping us call a taxi in the morning to the airport.

Traditional room, meals, robes and onsen. Magical authentic experience that was welcomed after time in big impersonal cities.

Yelp
Only a few stations away from Narita Airport, this ryokan has been in operation since mid 1700's (wait, that means it's older than the U.S.??) We got a chance to utilize this tradition ryokan m-style hotel for one night and I highly recommend it if you want to stay near the international airport but you'll still enjoy the old time Japan. It's located in the center of the shotengan that connects to the Narita Station (not Narita Airport station.) If you decide that you go without the meal plan there are plenty of places to eat in walking distance for all kinds of food especially ramen, unagi and sushi (if you are one of those who prefer more western style then there are still choices for you as we saw some French and Italian places.) And shopping for souvenirs, oh my, we were simply overwhelmed by the number of choices for sure. Anyway, going back to the ryokan, the staff were extremely welcoming. Well-trained workers ensure that your stay at this place will be as comfortable and pleasant as possible. That care is seen in everything we saw. We got lucky; our room (224) is facing this beautiful temple (must see!); once you open your curtains, the view of the temple's magnificent buildings are right in your face. Each room's got beautiful tatami mats in the main area of the room. Beautiful Japanese shoji screens with bamboo tree designs are beautiful. You'll sleep on futon placed directly onto the tatami mats. At the tea table, you'll be equipped with tea pot, tea cups and hot water pot with green tea tea bags. TV and air conditioner mounted on the ceiling in the center of the room, I mean you'll lack NOTHING. Towels and yukatas are in your room as well. Spa (onsen/sento) is a good size. All sorts of minerals included in the bath water are extremely beneficial for your health (I soaked in it at night on the day of arrival and in the early morning on the day of departure.) The temperature of the water might be a bit high for most people but you'll get used to it. Once soaked in it for 10-15 minutes, you'll keep sweating for solid 30 minutes after you're gone back to your room; the effect of it remains for so long. Literally you'll sweat off all your toxins in your body! Upon checking out, the same staff who welcomed us upon arrival saw us off to our next destination with warm smile. If we'll be in this area we WILL definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Nice place close by the temple in Narita, happen to see it walking by, didn't know it was a ryokan. When we went in, it was bigger than expected, nice rooms and good aircon (it was hot out). The server gave us some matcha in cool water, hit the spot! Mom got a tempura set, I got the eel set. It was a nice tasty lunch, the eel was better than at an eel specialty restaurant in Ginza! If we have Mr time we would have tried their kaseki dinner, next time!

Yelp
Exceptional service!!! Stay: 3/16 - 3/18 (5 adults - deluxe Japanese style room) Almost 25 years ago, I lived in Fusa, Abiko-Shi, not far from Narita, and I spent many days walking up and down Omotesando and around Narita-san (temple). Now, 25 years later, I wanted to show my family the beauty of Narita and the experience of staying in a traditional ryokan. After spending almost 2 weeks in the heart of Shinjuku, right on the edge of Kabukicho, we stopped at Wakamatsu Honten for a few quiet days on our way back to the US. It was a great decision! The room was just as it should be, with the tatami mats that I miss, the low tables and chairs, and shoji doors that give the clean aesthetic of Japanese design. It fit all 5 of us and our luggage nicely. The view was ... wonderful -- overlooking Narita-san, just left of the main gate. The futons put out for us were comfortable and the yukatas were clean and comfy. Some of our party did need to call down for larger yukatas, which were delivered timely with no problems. The onsen (which was a new experience for everyone except me) was relaxing and inviting. My 3 adult children all have tattoos and were able to use the onsen without issue. I was actually surprised that they went multiple times in our short stay, proving how much they enjoyed it. Breakfast was served the two mornings we were there - both very Japanese breakfasts, which facinated my family, and comforted my nostalgic soul. On the 1st night, we celebrated my daughter's birthday and when the ryokan found out, they quickly supplied us with plates and forks for the birthday cake. Oh and a lighter for the candles. Celebrating her birthday with family in a traditional ryokan in Japan will be an experience she won't forget. But as wonderful as the facilities were, the shining star of our stay was the service. The staff were always very friendly, warm, attentive and hospitable. It seemed like they went out of their way to make sure we were happy. Unfortunately, after all these years, my Japanese is very poor, but the staff were able to communicate with us all nicely. Special shout-out to Tiger, the evening manager. He was so nice to all of us and made our stay special. Even though I am not Japanese, I was so proud that my family got to experience Japan at it's finest. Thank you Wakamatsu! I highly recommend you to everyone I know.

Yelp
We wanted a traditional Japanese overnight stay experience. This ryokan is situated right across from Naritasan Shinsho-Ji with a lot of walking trails next to streams and ponds. It is about 20 minutes from Narita airport. We got the dinner and breakfast package and it was well worth the extra cost for a once in a blue moon experience. Ah.. how can I forget to mention the 24 hour onsen experience. All included with your stay.

Yelp
This place was one of the best parts about my experience in Japan. I landed at Narita Airport and instead of going straight to Tokyo I figured why not check out the area. I found this humble ryokan with a great view of the shrine across the street. The town has a wonderfully quaint omotesando (shopping street) and a relaxed vibe. For an extra fee, breakfast and dinner can be included with your stay. I will note that if you're arriving from the US, jet lag might cause you to not be hungry enough to finish the food - they provide so many delicious dishes! The ryokan is traditional and pretty recently renovated which makes it a great place to get acquainted with Japanese culture. Remember to take your shoes off when you enter your room. Go for a walk around the shrine (note: I thought it was just the few buildings I could see through the hotel window but it's actually very expansive!). The omotesando nearby is fully.open during the day and has a variety of great treats and souvenirs. At night take a dip in the ryokan hot pool and shower yourself the traditional way. If you happen to have tattoos, know that in a lot of cases they are still taboo in much of traditional Japan - think about dipping into the hot pool at night if you are a bit self conscious about how themight view it here - I've heard that tiny tattoos are okay here from other reviews however. Overall this ryokan and the town of Narita is a must go if you have the time to.

Yelp
We were surprised how spacious our room is. Also have a nice balcony to relax with awesome view of an ancient temple. Checking in was quick and easy, all they need is our passport since we have prepaid for our stay. Also have a 24 hr spa, wow.!

Yelp
This is my first time staying in a ryokan in Japan. Extremely recommended for anyone looking to experience a lot of traditional cultural activities! The staff is extremely friendly and quite a few staff members spoke excellent English. They don't accept tips but are very accommodating and hospitality is their key focus. If you have never had traditional kaiseki japanese set meals, I highly recommend signing up for them as part of the package. If you already have, you can opt out and enjoy the great restaurants just up omodote sando (to the left outside the ryokan). It's about a 1.5 mile strip that you can walk up to the narita JR train station While you eat your meals they swap out your table in the room with futon! Same in the morning. There is free wifi and a lock box for your stuff. Drinks are available for purchase (tea and water are free), or you can just walk up the street for vending machines and seven eleven. You can walk to the ryokan from the station but it's a bit far. Recommended to take a taxi unless you only have a backpack I have yet to try the small bath but it's open 24 hours and very quaint and lovely. We got the room that included a shower so it's very convenient. We love that this place was only a 15 minute train ride from narita airport Looking forward to coming back again one day!
