My Top 9 Hostels in Sydney for 2025

"If you love the beach, I recommend Wake Up! Bondi Beach — it’s just seconds from the sand, has an awesome rooftop space overlooking Bondi, and offers free surfboards. There are free yoga classes, walking tours, other fitness activities, BBQ parties and pizza nights; the rooms are comfy and the showers are fine, so it’s ideal if you plan to spend most of your time at the beach." - Matthew Kepnes

Great stay. The rooms are good but it doesn’t really matter because the staff are so helpful. The events are great fun and fantastic for socializing especially as a solo traveller. In particular Ruby, Tia and raya we brilliant and great fun. I will be staying here if I happen to return to Sydney.

28yo F Canadian. Rooms had enough space for storing belongings. Lockers are a good size was able to fit my bag and a small bag inside. Bathrooms were clean and there was alway one available. Shower caddy in the shower stalls was really helpful as well as the hooks. LOTS of stairs. Rooftop was a great place to lounge when wanting to relex but get out of the room. Wifi doesnt quite reach up there though. Location was perfect. Right in the center of the action and lots to do and see in walking distance. Great events options available. Free pancakes were great. Staff went above and beyond to take care of guests and their belongings. Sunscreen available in lobby. Comfortable beds although the duvet was too hot in the room at times. I really felt comfortable and enjoyed this stay. Thank you!

Beautiful location, walk out the door, cross the road and you are on the world famous Bondi beach. You seriously can’t beat it. There was nothing better than waking up and going straight into the surf. Location alone is 5 stars. Hostel is pretty basic for the most part. The dorm beds had no curtains. They did have power and a light tho. You could hear music playing at night but it was alright, I slept really well. For the floor I think they had 3 showers, 3 toilets and 2 sinks so it can be a little crowded. Staff were all very friendly. After check out they let me store my bags and still use the facilities so thank you! Hostel was full of travellers of all types and they have a lot of events on. All up a great stay, location is absolutely stunning and so many cute little cafes and places to eat around the area. You can’t beat it.

Bunk was comfy, good access to power points and personal light however i found a stranger's underwear underneath the mattress that slid out as the mattress moved around (gross). I stayed in a female only dorm but there were still males “visiting” the room at times which made me uncomfortable. There is no space to open up a suitcase on the floor without getting in everyone’s way. Aircon dripped water. Roommates came back late being loud and then talking very early, with people yelling down the hallways on a Tuesday/Wednesday night was really inconsiderate and there was no intervention from staff. One corner of my bedding was ripped completely Female bathroom was mid, access to 3 toilets and 4 showers. Good hot water, felt mostly clean except bathroom floors could be cleaner. Both sinks were leaking causing the entire floor to be wet. Personally I would not stay here again due to the lack of respect from other people staying, limited space to access my things and shared wet bathroom situation. There was also a lot of tradies in and out working on things on the third floor, with some parts of the hostel feeling like a building site. Great location, close to the beach, walking distance to restaurants, convenience stores etc. I was glad to leave at the end of my stay...

Staying at Wake Up Bondi was an absolute treat - staff was above and beyond, view from my “ocean view dorm” absolutely insane and rooftop incredible. The hostel was really clean and activities really enjoyable. Highly recommend booking your stay there! Honestly for couple of extra dollars you can treat yourself to an ocean view ! I believe a girl from the UK called Hanna (sorry if I’m spelling it wrong) who hosted the reception when I arrived was the kindest and absolutely helpful (as well as the rest of the team) x

If you identify as Female then Wake Up! Is actually much better than the rating given. That's because there's just much better utilities offered compared to the utilities offered for men. Men have a separate bathroom from the shower room and there's sinks outside in the hallway. This can be an issue for men who prefer to have the toilet, shower and sink all combined in the same room (it's also a little awkward to shave in the middle of the hallway). Women have all utilities combined in the same room which is much better. There's a TON of stairs and no elevator access. In order to even get to reception you need to climb a flight of stairs. Other than that, reception closes fairly early so if you have issues with the room, like how my bedside lamp is flickering, I'm not really able to contact reception and have something done about it (they close at 10pm and I only just turned the lamp on at around the same time). Those are the only negatives I've found in my short stay, but keep in mind this is not a high quality hotel. You get what you pay for so other issues that I otherwise would mention will be ignored for this review. Some positives: While I'm writing this review in the middle of my single night stay, there's an events board and while I haven't had the chance to try any, there seems to b a good mix of events so that there's something for everyone. The staff are also super cool and friendly, while they're not as accommodating as I'd like for people with disabilities, they're also not terrible like those at Little Bigots down the road. They're positioned in such an amazing location, literally opposite Bondi Beach. I really don't think you find anywhere as affordable in such a great location as Wake Up. So while Wake Up does have some pros and cons and while I personally don't see myself checking in here ever again (unless structural changes are made), I would still highly recommend Wake Up to women looking for an affordable stay in a prime location.

I recently stayed at Wake Up! Bondi Beach and had an amazing experience. The atmosphere was relaxed, welcoming, and full of good energy. The events were a real highlight and made it super easy to meet new people and make the most of my time there. Big shout out to Chloe for making my stay so memorable. She was always happy to help with any questions and brought such a great vibe to the place. Couldn't recommend it more if you're looking for a fun and social spot right by the beach!

I had an incredible stay at Wake Up! Bondi! The location is unbeatable—just steps from the beach, perfect for catching the sunrise or heading out for a surf. The atmosphere is super chill, with a great mix of travelers and a real community vibe. A special shoutout to the receptionist, Hannah—she’s absolutely amazing at her job! Super helpful, friendly, and always ready with great local tips. Plus, not gonna lie… she’s extremely good looking, which definitely brightens your check-in experience 😄 The facilities are clean, the common areas are great for meeting people, and everything feels well-organized. Would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone looking to stay in Bondi. I’ll be back!
