If you identify as Female then Wake Up! Is actually much better than the rating given. That's because there's just much better utilities offered compared to the utilities offered for men.
Men have a separate bathroom from the shower room and there's sinks outside in the hallway. This can be an issue for men who prefer to have the toilet, shower and sink all combined in the same room (it's also a little awkward to shave in the middle of the hallway).
Women have all utilities combined in the same room which is much better.
There's a TON of stairs and no elevator access. In order to even get to reception you need to climb a flight of stairs.
Other than that, reception closes fairly early so if you have issues with the room, like how my bedside lamp is flickering, I'm not really able to contact reception and have something done about it (they close at 10pm and I only just turned the lamp on at around the same time).
Those are the only negatives I've found in my short stay, but keep in mind this is not a high quality hotel. You get what you pay for so other issues that I otherwise would mention will be ignored for this review.
Some positives: While I'm writing this review in the middle of my single night stay, there's an events board and while I haven't had the chance to try any, there seems to b a good mix of events so that there's something for everyone.
The staff are also super cool and friendly, while they're not as accommodating as I'd like for people with disabilities, they're also not terrible like those at Little Bigots down the road.
They're positioned in such an amazing location, literally opposite Bondi Beach. I really don't think you find anywhere as affordable in such a great location as Wake Up.
So while Wake Up does have some pros and cons and while I personally don't see myself checking in here ever again (unless structural changes are made), I would still highly recommend Wake Up to women looking for an affordable stay in a prime location.
