"Getting away from it all to connect with nature is the whole point of traveling to the remote Akan-Mashu National Park in Eastern Hokkaido, and there’s hardly a better place to do it than one of Wakkanpuri Resorts’ luxurious waterfront villas. Both are positioned on the edge of Lake Kussharo, the largest crater lake in Japan. Though they differ in style — RERA (meaning “wind”) is thrillingly exposed to the elements, with waves splashing against its huge picture windows, while the two-story FURE (meaning “red”) is larger and calmer — both have minimalist living rooms warmed by wood-burning fireplaces, indoor baths fed by hot spring water, and multiple bedrooms. Stayed at Wakkanupuri Resorts Rera, quieter sibling to the original Wakkanupuri Style. Nordic Japanese chic hideaway Setting. One of the dreamiest places in Hokkaido, on the largest Caldera lake in Japan and the second largest in the world. Felt like a secret stay as it was a ten minutes drive down south from the original Wakkanupuri and there are only 4 buildings in a huge space tucked in between the lake and the forest Explore. Nearby Lake Mashū & magical Mount Iō, I drove in full mist to see this fairy tale landscape Rooms. Bedroom has a view of the beach and lake The onsen was spacious and heavenly, and just like the rest of the house, has amazing views @ the hotel. The “hotel” has two houses next to the lake. My house was a 800 sq ft one bedroom built inches from the lake, the other house was tucked a bit further back from the beach. Food & drinks. The best traditional kaiseki with Hokkaido ingredients, the restaurant was in a separate house, with two spacious dining rooms separated by the kitchen Prices. $705 half board Rating. 5/5

Wakkanupuri is one of the ryokan with fantastic view by lakeside, Kussharo Lake. You could enjoy such view from your room with full glass window down to floor. In order to ensure their focus for serving client, they will only service 1-2 group of clients each night and we two were the only guests on the night, fully enjoying the peace and quiet environment. I would like to take this chance to appreciate the services rendered by the host, not only for hospitality and delicious food, but also serving as tourist guide driving us to Kotan Onsen, Sunayu, etc.

Highly recommend this hotel!! Hotel & Room: Super nice hotel. They serve only 1 group of guest each day. High privacy. Nice deco with a mix of both Japan and Northern Europe. Private hot spring in room and near the lake with excellent view of Lake Kussharo. (we saw wild fox running across the ice on the lake!). Staff: Super super nice, friendly and helpful staff. Able to communicate in english which helps a lot. Food: very tasty food. Can tell Chef chose the special and seasonal ingredients from differenet part of Hokkaido, e.g. pork from Obihiro, fresh seafood from 厚岸， 知床。Utensils are beautiful that upgrade the total dining experience.

北海道2日目、屈斜路湖畔ワッカヌプリ リゾート リラに泊まりました。 湖畔ギリギリに立つ一軒家で景色の良い宿でした♪ 部屋の作りも景色にあった作りをしていて、ゆっくり過ごせる部屋です。温泉♨️も掛け流しで赤い湯♨️で温まる湯でした。身体が赤くなるので、シャワーで流して出て下さいとの事です。 良い湯でした♨️孫ちゃんも気に入ったようです😀 食事は、別棟のレストランで金の間？個室で広くソファー・TVも有り、子連れでも良い部屋でした。 食事は素材を活かし、最初から最後まで美味しく頂きました。旨し😀 私は愛煙家ですが、外での喫煙🚬はOKです。灰皿は玄関に用意してありました。 今回天候が良くなかったですが、穏やかだり、風雨凄かったり、虹が🌈見えたり、良かったです。 又、行きたい宿です♪ お世話になりました。😀
