Yelp
The Waldorf Astoria name comes the heft of the apples, celery, grapes, and walnuts in a Waldorf Salad. From its original hotel in New York (with history dating back to the late 1800s), it carries a name synonymous with elegance, comfort, great service, and the best in hotels.
If you've seen the Waldorf in NYC, you'll take one look at the Western-styled building tucked away up on the hill and have a bit of a WTF moment. But when you go in, see the chandeliers, high ceilings, grand staircase, oriental rugs, and marble floors, you'll know you're in a Waldorf.
THE ROOM:
We spent a long weekend in one-bedroom suite. With a full living room, gigantic bathroom, and bedroom bigger than most run-of-the-mill hotel ROOMS, it isn't cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for.
The little things like Ferragamo soaps and shampoos; a high-end washer/dryer and washing machine with complementary detergents; Viking stove, fridge, and microwave; the modern granite-topped kitchen counters; all made us feel at home.
There's both a whirlpool tub and a two-head shower. Trust me, you'll want to try both for the therapeutic hot-watery relaxation. And there's a TV in the bathroom!
Plenty of furniture: some great leather lounge chairs and a nap-friendly couch.
Their DirecTV service is okay ... you can't rewind or DVR anything, and they DON'T have all the channel a sports fan would want.
SERVICE:
We stayed for our honeymoon, and they gave us rose pedals on the bed, champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries. They didn't pull out all the stops, but they sure pulled out a helluva lot of them.
Valet service was good ... however, I have seen quicker. They didn't make me late for anything, and they didn't scratch or Ferris Bueller my car ... I can't ask for much more than that.
Cleaning was so-so and the garbage situation ... oy vey. We literally had one garbage can in the whole joint, and that was right by the toilet. Trust me, I looked for a kitchen trash can ... I looked for an ANYWHERE trash can. Waldorf: Either get more trash cans or start a fire in an old oil drum and bring it to my room.
FOOD:
I review the Powder Restaurant on their own page. Let's just say it's a place you HAVE TO eat at while at the Waldorf. We also had a room service dinner (which they set up on our cool glass dining room table). My wife had the Black Angus Short Rib Beef Burger, and it was epic: the Russian dressing, red onions, housemade brioche bun, aged Cheddar, and Applewood smoked bacon all worked well together for -- by far -- the best room service burger I've ever tasted.
I had their Club Sandwich: grilled chicken, Nueske Bacon, lettuce, tomato, guac, Gruyere Cheese, pineapple aioli on toast...it is also off-the-charts amazing.
We both got a bowl of their Lobster Clam Chowder. It's creamy, the lobster is top-shelf, but also RICH ... you won't be able to finish this along with a "main course" meal.
We shared the Utah Apple Cider Fritters with vanilla cream and salted caramel dipping sauces ... soft, sugary, tasty, messy yumminess.
AMENITIES:
Park City is an also a great summer place, and the Waldorf the perfect resort. You'll find a swimming pool, two jacuzzis, a Beer Garden, fire pits with complementary s'mores fixin's at night ... the swim area is the place to be, even if you don't want to swim.
There are those frou-frou things, like spa treatments, nails, body scrubs, and the like. I recommend you SCHEDULE BEFORE YOU GO. My wife was unable to get in for a spa treatment. To me, this is B.S. ... you should be able to handle a high level of clientele and prioritize guests. VERY disappointing.
The view was amazing ... the hills look great, even without snow on them. We also were overlooking the pool ... I was pleasantly surprised how quiet it was ... I could have the window open and not hear a lot of hubbub, and I felt like we still had privacy.
Overall, a very good hotel ... I shall return!
