America's Lesbian Bars Are Dwindling—This Project Wants to Change That

"The legacy of both regional lesbian bars, and the efforts of women like Milwaukee’s Walker’s Pint owner Bet-z Boenning, Suppan, Cannistraci and other LGBTQ+ activists to promote them, is vital to those like bartender Meagan Munoz, who works at Walker’s Pint."

This is hands down the worst gay bar in Milwaukee, and quite possibly all of Wisconsin. The bar staff is extremely cliquey and rude. If you're not one of them, they really make you feel like an outcast. They spend their time on shift playing drinking games with each other and getting trashed at work. The karaoke is extremely sub par unless Roxie Beane does it, but in my opinion, she is way too cool to associate with this bar. Most of the time it's a novice karaoke host with zero experience and training who doesn't know anything about running a sound board. If you're looking for a welcoming gay bar in the Milwaukee area, please be warned, you won't find it here.

Google
It is absolutely so incredible to have a space for lesbians in Milwaukee. I love the pint, my friends and I go pretty consistently. It holds a very special place in my heart and I’ve had some incredibly fun nights here. With that being said, out of all the bars in the gayborhood, this one is the most unwelcoming and it’s because of the staff. Their slogan is be nice or leave, and they should hold themselves to that standard too. Specifically Tom, who’s “worked there for 10 years.” He is so rude and condescending. Management should reevaluate his employment.

Went here one evening on vacation, and it was great. There weren't any events and it was a cold Tuesday evening, so fairly empty. Cal was a wonderful bartender, fun to chat with and great service. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the place and everyone we chatted with, as well as our drinks. I really appreciated the coat hooks under the bartop.

They were BEYOND welcoming. My partner and I were visiting and were greeted by the kindest humans! Thank you for being so welcoming and free spirited. I hope you have the best celebration on the 20th!!!!! Will be back! ❤️🏳️‍🌈

Google
Absolutely perfect atmosphere!! The vibes were so fun and welcoming, it felt so safe to just be! Cannot recommend enough, they had games in a little patio/garden area and darts inside. The beer was cold and fresh and the service was outstanding!!

Google
Favorite bar to go to in Milwaukee. Comfortable and safe atmosphere. Themed nights are fun and the patio is cute.

Google
Seriously the rudest bar I have ever been too. Bartenders are rude and immature. All the patrons are also very cliquey are rude. Not worth the effort. GOTO dix.

Van

Google
Worst bar ever, bartenders are rude and have no idea how to make a drink. Crowd that comes in is also rude and disrespectful. Keep moving.

Yelp
Let's talk COVID. Staff is wiping down every ten minutes, mask required, temps taken at the door, yet the vibe is still rockin. This is your must go to bar in Milwaukee!

Yelp
No comment you just have to go and experience it amazing bartender but won't go again

Yelp
This is a really great, classic Wisconsin dive bar that also happens to be the only lesbian bar in the state (though all are welcome). They are drinks only and tend to hold a lot of events for their patrons including Bingo, djs, and pride events and also do a lot for games. The bar is also deceptively large and they make a larger patio area available in the vacant lot next door in the summer. They are also dog friendly. The patrons are friendly and so is the staff. Definitely recommend as a stop on a casual day out.

Yelp
My party of 4 and I came into an empty bar last night and ordered beers. About halfway through I went up to order shots for us and the bartender mocked me in an exaggerated valley girl voice saying we were too drunk for shots and turned around to watch tv. We all had just gotten done with dinner and had 1 drink and were just chatting minding our own business. I'd have understood if we were actually trashed and being wild but that wasn't the case.. If you don't like your job or making money you could have just said that instead of being disrespectful for seemingly no reason. Even if you truly believed we were too drunk for shots it would have cost you absolutely nothing to be kind about it. I used to enjoy my time here but that experience with her did not sit well with me.

Yelp
i've been here 4-5 times. it's okay.. not very diverse so if you're a poc i wouldn't go alone. very unlikely i'll ever go back. i like the big jenga and connect 4 on the patio. usually laid back, the music is so-so, but there is a jukebox. a few weeks ago, someone (i'm assuming a regular, seen her every time i'm there) smacked my behind right after i had my ID checked. the person at the door did nothing even though this happened *right in front of her*. a simple "hey, that's not okay" would've made me feel better. i initially went there to wait for a friend but i just used the bathroom and left. the person at the door smiled at me on my way out which honestly felt insulting after she watched the entire interaction. it's hard enough feeling comfortable here with the lack of diversity, then that incident kinda ruined the pint for me.

Yelp
I enjoy coming here on Saturday nights when DJ Shawna is spinning. I'm definitely crushing on her! ;) But she's also a great DJ. It would be nice if there were better areas to dance though. There seems to be a mix of people here. The only thing I don't enjoy is that old guy ogling the ladies. He's such a creeper, haha. Great outdoor space and nice bartenders.

Yelp
My friends and I, a group of 6 women, came to Milwaukee from Chicago for a little one night trip and we had a blast here! Maybe too much fun because I ended up leaving my purse there. I would like to give a shoutout to one of their workers, Betsy (or Bet Z.?). My purse has both sentimental and monetary value. I had cash in it but no I.D. except for my insurance card. Betsy called my insurance and my insurance company connected us. She Fedexed my purse to me and amazingly the cash was even still in there. Thank you to Betsy and Walkers Pint staff (and the honest patron who turned it in)! You made my week after having a very anxiety filled Sunday. It is so refreshing when something like this happens. I will definitely be back next time I find myself in Milwaukee, and will be leaving my purse at home :)

Yelp
Love it ! The only place that you can go to on Milwaukee and be surrounded by women energy . Highly recommend , friendly and love the music.

Yelp
This was the last bar from my Saturday night out in the Milwaukee gayborhood. I could've gone with out this this bar. It was the least friendly and uninviting of the bars in the area. This made it stand out as the other bars were very friendly. It seemed like it fit the cliché stereotype of gays and lesbians not getting along as many of my fellow patrons didn't seem to keen on my buddy and me being there. Some of the staff that wasn't tending bar didn't seem too thrilled either. However the staff tending bar was super friendly and efficient and like every other bar the beer was super cheap. So I guess I'm the end, it all evens itself out but I don't see myself giving this place another visit.

Yelp
Was here over memorial day weekend, had a blast. They let our little furry friend in, had a lovely talk with some of the other patrons, the bartender was great (sorry, didn't get a name) and a nice beer selection. Will definitely go back if in Milwaukee, which we will do as it's close to Chicago, very dog friendly and we both liked the city.

Yelp
This is a pretty standard Milwaukee dive bar, which makes it very comfortable. We came in for a drink on a Friday night and it was pretty full, but not over crowded. People were dancing and playing pool and having a good time. We had a round of darts before we left, too. I love that they have the back patio - that looks like it could be a cool space for an event or something. Drinks were good, prices were normal, staff was prompt and responsive. This is a good spot to hit in Walker's Point to feel right at home.

Yelp
The staff inside actually greet people when they enter and unlike most lesbian bars, the atmosphere here is pretty welcoming. I've only been a few times but have enjoyed myself each time.

Yelp
A solid, dive-y spot in the Walker's Point that's super welcoming of anyone and everyone that walks in the door. (Everyone, that is, unless you're underage... the bouncers at the Pint are NOT effing around, folks. Serious ID-checking, y'all.) Sports on the tube(s), lots of drink specials, a pool table/darts, karaoke on Wednesday nights, DJs on the weekends... this spot is about as chill as they come as far as being no-frills fun in the fifth ward. Hang with friends, drink drinks, play games, hang on their outdoor patio if it's nice out/if yr the smoking type. As far as I know, the Pint is currently the only dedicated lesbian bar in MKE since Mona's closed... though I could be wrong. (Let me know if I am!) Four solid stars for good times at the Pint!

Jill B.

Yelp
Friendly bar where everyone (well, not a-holes) are welcome. Great drink specials, friendly staff, lots of TVs, special events, and they've just added a large outdoor space for social (physical) distancing.

Yelp
The ladies of Walker's Pint have one of Milwaukee's best karaoke nights. Seriously, you'll never hear "Bette Davis Eyes" sung better than by your bartender here. The owner is fantastic, you can tell she really cares about her customers. Karaoke at Pint is an experience. You'll meet fun people and make new friends. People will cheer for you if you rock your song... hey, they'll even cheer for you if you don't. It's a fun bar and a fun group of people. Wednesdays are $1 pitcher nights, and there's a decent selection of tap beers to choose from. Come to the Pint, you'll definitely enjoy yourself.

Yelp
Never all that clean.. in fact it's a bit grungy - and not in the good "dive bar" sense. Service is never all that friendly either - well - at least it hasn't been for me. Every time I go back I think - "ahh, yes.. This is why it's been a long time since my last visit." It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Yelp
Milwaukee's most popular (and possible only) Lesbian bar in town. The environment is so welcoming that a straight male like myself can come And have a good time. Wednesday nights are great for Karaoke, Friday & Saturday are the party nights and Sundays are the best for watching Packer games. Why? Free shots with touchdowns and free food...

Yelp
I've been going to the pint for over a decade and usually have a good time. I love that this is a place for Queer women but I would recommend paying in cash or closing out after every order. I was overcharged by at least $30 and when I tried to ask the bartender why, she got an attitude and walked away. I ended up dropping it and paying the $80+ that they charged me and left a tip only because I really had no choice.

Yelp
I recently stopped in for a pint (yes, stupid pun intended) before heading out to dinner in the area. I really dig the dive-ish style of the bar with a huge bar and great, cheap beers on tap. The bartender was amazing. I was surprised to see a buy a friend a drink board ala Comet Cafe where you can buy someone a drink and you write down their name on the board and what you bought for them so next time they're there they can redeem that drink. The back area has a pool table and a large outdoor patio. The front area has darts, a jukebox, and a nice sized bar. I really like all the shirts they sell there for you to support this location business. Definitely worth stopping in for a pint if you are in the area.

Yelp
I've been here several times. I loved it. No drama always friendly. Also priced well. I didn't break my bank going there. I danced. Does get a little crowded but not uncomfortable. Music is good all different kinds doesn'tstay the same and i like that. This isn't just a gay bar it's a bar where everyone can have an awesome time

Yelp
Friendly and fun! Went here for karaoke on Wednesday and Nastassja, the host, was belting Amy like a pro - beautiful! The bartender was so personable and people were quick to cheer for the singers. Good spot!

Yelp
This place is great. I wish there was something like this here in Dallas. I was in Milwaukee a few months ago and after doing some checking on line had found this place. My gf and I went in and found out that there was a cover. Pretty sure it was just five bucks, but it was kinda random for a Wednesday. We got a couple of beers and were checking out the bar when I noticed a handwritten sign on the chalkboard stating that "Goddess and She" would be performing that night. How random and lucky was that? We stayed for the whole show and really enjoyed ourselves. This place is more of a bar than a club, it is kinda of small but the perfect place to hang after work or even gather with a group of friends. There is also a pool table in the back and I think a patio with outdoor seating (I went in November so I'm not 100% sure). The one dollar bills all over the walls with messages on them add character and a homey atmosphere. I found it to be very smoky and the neighborhood is a little sketchy, but most lesbian/gay bars tend not to be in the best areas. Would love to go again, and next time I am in Milwaukee it will be one of the first places I stop.

Yelp
pretty cool place. It has a local dive/grunge kinda feel. First lesbian bar I've gone to where there was no attutide towards any man. If I lived in milwaukee I'd likely make it one of my watering holes.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I just got kicked out for supposedly being too drunk, even though we had just walked in the door and had one drink each previously. We frequent the pint and have always enjoyed our time. Our third date was spent there. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to hate on the place, but we were treated unfarily tonight. I left in tears. Its hard enough being accepted by society, I feel like being turned away by family is the ultimate blow. Like I said, usually we have a great time, not sure what was up with the staff tonight. Apparently our lipstick lesbianism wasn't acceptable? Our safe place was just ruined for us :(

Yelp
First time visit. Nice bar, great place to hang out. Will be back. Maybe for my birthday.

Yelp
Super fun bar, lesbian or not! They have a great beer/drink selection, often have live music and if not, the jukebox is awesome, so you can't go wrong.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I are in from out of town and wanted to check out a few gay friendly bars. This was predominately lesbians which was a nice change. The bartender was friendly. Drinks seemed a little weak, I ordered a double and I only saw him pour a 3 second shot. Pool table (very small) and darts. Great outdoor patio. Would definitely return.

Yelp
Yes, this is "that lesbian bar" some of you might have heard me mention a few times. It's always a fun place to go with friends, though I do wish they'd take credit.

Yelp
The owner is a great person...she REALLY cares about her clientele....and goes out of her way to make them feel welcome and feel safe. HIGHLY recommended!!!! The staff is on top of it!

Yelp
My favorite bar to visit while in Milwaukee... great staff, fun atmosphere, great beers on tap, and awesome beer specials

Yelp
OMG where to start! Ive been here two time, both on nights where bars arent typically busy and Im from mn, freshly uprooted to milwaukee. I was nervous when I first went in but after that it was amazing! Talk about friendly! Im sorry mn but Walkers pint has everything! Friendly bar staff, well priced drinks, and amazing chill atmosphere! They were kind enough to teach a mn girl how to play bar dice! granted i am a pack fan but regardless of that, its a great place! Totally becoming my home bar for the area!
