The 6 Best Tour Companies in Italy (Updated 2025)

"When I want something more in-depth than a free tour, this is my favorite walking tour company in Italy: they’re one of the largest day-tour operators, run tours in eight cities, and get access to places other companies don’t, including before- or after-hours visits such as an early-access tour of the Sistine Chapel and a Colosseum at Night experience. Their guides are true experts, most tours last around four hours, and prices start at about 40 EUR per person." - Matthew Kepnes

We loved our tour of the Vatican with Gigi! We learned SO much and laughed way more than expected thanks to Gigi's efficient but fun narrative. He gave us all the basics and plenty of "palace intruige" and "gossip". The early start was helpful for both the temperature and the crowds, although because it was Jubilee and the Vatican was setting up for a big ceremony the next day, there was still a big bottleneck at the entrance to the basilica. Totally worth the wait and the extra cash to have such a fantastic guide and experience!

This was a great tour of the museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Even though we booked the 7:15 am tour it was still extremely crowded by the time we reached St. Peter's; I can't imagine going any later in the day. It was great being able to use the direct walkway to get to St. Peter's so we didn't have to go through security again. Our guide was very knowledgeable and she did a good job of covering all the main sites and she was good at keeping our group all together

The walking tour was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Claudia was very well prepared and made the tour very memorable. I recommend the walking tour, especially during Rome 2025 Jubilee celebration….

My husband and I booked the Complete Vatican Tour to celebrate my birthday while our Mediterranean cruise was docked in Civitavecchia (Rome). This was a bucket list tour for us, as we were able to see the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica in a few short hours. Beautiful artwork surrounds you throughout the entire tour- we just kept saying “wow” as we went down a new hallway or turned a new corner! We were able to walk through the Holy Doors for the 2025 Jubilee (however this is not a guaranteed part of the tour). There is a “short cut” passageway only accessible to certain tour groups that leads directly from the Sistine Chapel to St. Peter’s Basilica. It is not always open and is not a guarantee, but it was a welcomed time-saver, as lines were long in July and we had a lot we wanted to see in the short period of time we were in port. Vita was our tour guide and she was extremely knowledgeable! She pointed out minuet details in the artwork that I would have never noticed. I recommend this tour to anyone prioritizing the Vatican City during your time in Rome!

A fantastic experience and a great group to hang with for three hours while uncovering the incredible history of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, Roman Forum—and so much more in between. Our guide, Stefano, was outstanding—generous with both his time and knowledge, going well beyond what I’d expected. Honestly, it’s probably the best history lesson I’ll ever have. I’d highly recommend the tour, and if you’re lucky enough to get Stefano, well, that’s an added bonus. Chris More at Insta: @chrisohsyd

My family and I went on the Pristine Sistine walking tour of the Vatican/Sistine Chapel/St. Peter's Basilica on 7/25/25. We had such an incredible experience! Our tour guide, Jeb, was a highlight himself. He was fun, knowledgeable, and made our tour engaging the entire time. We're very happy to have had him guide us through these amazing sites. 100/10 would recommend!

Rome in a Day Tour (including Vatican, Colosseum & Historic Centre) is a MUST no matter how long you plan to spend in Rome. The tour covers all highlights of Rome including the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. There is no way you could do all of the places on your own using Google Maps. The tour guide knows his way around and also we ‘skipped the line’ in a number of places because we were a tour group. Our tour guide Nicola (Nick) was amazing. He was so a pleasure to listen to as he was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Rome.

We signed up for the tour of the Colliseum, and the Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel while we were in Rome last week. Our tour guide, Jaber has 46 years of experience, and his knowledge and information was unmatched. Great job! Lia was our tour guide at the Vatican Museum...the Sistine Chapel was unfortunately closed because of King's Charles visit. But it didn't dampen the energy and passion of our tour guide. She was knowledgeable, engaging and fun! We enjoyed both tours and had already recommended the Walks to our friends who plan to visit Italy in the future.
