The Best Walking Tours in Venice (Updated 2025)

"I've taken Walks tours all over Europe and Take Walks is, by far, my favorite tour company; they always manage to go above and beyond with tours that are both fun and educational. In Venice they run a handful of tours—the most popular for first-time visitors is their Venice in a Day tour, and for a deeper dive they offer the exclusive Alone in St. Mark’s & Doge’s Palace tour, which provides after-hours access to two of the city’s biggest sights." - Matthew Kepnes

Claudia was our tour guide. She is amazing. Fantastic tour. Very informative. I learned a ton and I'm a huge history nerd. It was amazing to see places where some of the great architects of western civilization stood. Long walk, be prepped for that. Well organized. She wasn't fishing for tips at the end either but she definitely deserved one.

Caution about signing up for Pompeii tour in advance. I spent $128 for two people. Because of an ItaliaRail issue, I arrived 5 minutes late. There was no phone number provided to advise of the late arrival. Not only did I miss the tour, but I had to pay even more money to enter Pompeii. Although your entry is included, you don't get sent an entry ticket if you miss the start time. There was no one from the company at the gate. The tour had simply left and started. I don't blame them for starting on time. I just caution against booking a tour in advance when you are relying on trains that you can't control. There were a lot of guides inside the gate looking for people to take on tours. I'd recommend that instead of you don't have full control of your travel.

AVOID - We had two scheduled small group tours with Walks during our visit to Venice this week. One was fine, though not exceptional. The other - a boat tour and dome climb - simply did not happen. Several groups of us who had paid for the tour waited at the designated location and no one arrived. One of the groups reached Walks, which said the tour had been canceled but they had forgotten to send out an email announcing the cancellation. Would never recommend Walks to anyone.
