Alright, Wally's is pretty hype. They are a pretty unassuming casual Mediterranean joint that is surprisingly spacious with two separated rooms. We sat down and were able to order through someone, who kindly gave us each a free small bowl of lentil soup that tasted so delicious. It was quiet inside with a few tables of regulars, though they had a steady stream of takeout orders.
- Beef & Lamb Gyros Wrap (add onion rings)
I think these are the best onion rings I've ever had? They were so good with the ranch (which I didn't know was a typical combination as my partner pointed out to me). They had a hard crispy crunch and I wanted to order some more. The gyro wrap was packed with well chopped veggies inside - just a typical good gyro.
- Combo Plate (lamb kabob and chicken pomegranate)
You get to pick two meats for the combo plate, which also comes with associated sauces, pita bread, salad, and rice pilaf. This is definitely shareable between two people with a lighter appetite, as I ended up taking home most of it as leftovers. The chicken shawarma smothered in pomegranate molasses was too sweet for my preference, and unfortunately too dry. The lamb kabob was great, flavorful, and cooked perfectly medium on the rarer side. The tzatziki and garlic sauces were both tasty and thick. I've had better rice, as this one was maybe a bit too dried out, though it still had flavor. The salad was pretty fresh with a mild sweet vinaigrette; it would have been better with some more lemon, but I liked their manageable cuts of romaine, tomato, and some healthy spring mix. The ample amount of pita bread they included came in a plastic bag, and were hot with a thin fluffiness to them.
When we got the bill, we were also brought a small piece each of their homemade baklava. I don't typically enjoy this dessert for its sticky sweetness, but I fell in love with their baklava. It's just the right amount of subtle sweetness from the honey, very fresh in its crispy and flaky filo dough, a perfect size and ratio of crushed pistachios, and had a straight from the oven taste. I actually wanted to buy a pan full of baklava, as it's ultimately what made me decide on my rating for Wally's. For a generous Mediterranean place, they have reasonable prices, tasty and healthy food, and absolutely amazing lentil soup and baklava.
