Great English used bookstore in San Telmo for when you’re feeling homesick - complete with very rude bookseller.

A cozy hidden shop with a wide selection of used English books, I got lucky and found some impressive vintage copies. If you're looking to learn English or, like me, your first language is English and you need a new book to pass the time you'll find a great selection here. Bonus point for the owner being so kind

Walrus Books is one of San Telmo’s best kept secrets. The shop is cozy and filled to the brim with an astounding assortment of used books in English. There isn’t another place like it in the city. The prices are quite fair, if not a steal in some instances. Both cash and card are accepted. The books on the first level are in wonderful condition — often so gently used that you’d swear they were new. There is a bargain section upstairs where the books are in fair to good condition. If you’re willing to dig to find a gem, you often will. You can even find books in other languages. I’ve found titles in German, Chinese, Japanese, French, and others. They update their Instagram page regularly to feature particular books, which I believe you can put on hold for a time. It’s only two blocks from the Mercado de San Telmo and certainly worth the visit!

If you are traveling through BA and forgot something to read on your cruise to Antartica or Patagonia this is the place to grab an affordable book! You are already going to be in this neighborhood checking out the San Telmo market. Don’t miss out.

A real hidden gem! The store boasts an array of new/used books in English which is so useful to travellers wanting to pick up a bit of reading material. The shelves are stacked with books both fiction and non-fiction. There is a second floor which holds a discounted book section too. Unlikely to find the latest releases, but there's a huge choice and it's a great place to browse and grab a book you may never have gotten around to reading. They accept both card and cash payments. Definitely worth a visit!

Great place and an amazing selection. The bookstore is located in an upcoming neighborhood with a similar atmosphere to Palermo Soho. I must bring to your attention how well organized and maintained the place was. The guy operating the place was extremely friendly and kind. Plus, their books are organized in a way that's both easy to locate and discover new books that one might enjoy. Overall, it's a hidden gem in Buenos Aires that's sure to captivate any booklover. The best deals on books and an astonishingly well stocked catalog makes this place a must

Found some ‘hidden’ books and got a couple really cool posters. Worth your time if you’re into unexpected English books and a bargain hunter.

Really nice English book store that's close to the San Telmo Market. It has a decent collection. When I walked in, there were only a handful of customers, but once I left, there were quite a few people inside. I bought a book and a couple of postcards that were quite unique.

Real great variety of second hand books in English at very reasonable prices. Fresh flowers give the place a special flavour.

Yelp
What a great place. To call it a bookstore doesn't do it justice. Walrus organizes classes (everything from poetry to writing workshops to literature courses covering different themes) and also has this nifty book nook. There is a little bit of everything here, from old and new and spanning lots of different categories from non-fiction, fiction, art books, children's books and more. All in english but you know that by now. They publish the new books they have in on Facebook so you can go ahead and reserve what you like, some popular and sought after titles go fast as the expat community tends to snatch them up. You can also trade in your books, Walrus will buy them and you can turn around and stock up. It's a good way to trade in old reads that you don't want to hang on too and it helps the shop keep stocked up with lots of options. Lovely owner and great concept. The classes are a must to check out, heck they even have classes targeted towards Spanish speakers looking to practice their English.

Yelp
This is the place to go if you want quality English books in Buenos Aires. It's small but all the more charming for it. For a bookworm like me it's something close to heaven, especially in import-starved Argentina. The books are a mixture of new and second-hand, and prices are always reasonable. They also have a small selection of special editions, where you can find some gems. You also have the possibility of trading in your old books in exchange for theirs, which I've done on occasion. A fun place to browse whenever you're in San Telmo.
