Walter Benedict is a lovely-looking café bistro in a fine dining area of The Hague. When I previously tried to reserve a table, it required a €15 deposit. Interestingly enough, when I booked recently for the 16:00 slot, no deposit was required.
The kitchen closes at 15:30 and reopens at 17:30. While the lunch menu states that lunch service ends at 15:30, there is no such indication on the dinner menu. We were greatly disappointed when all we could order were small bites.
To avoid spoiling the mood, my friend and I ordered a nice bottle of wine to accompany the pâté, cheese selection, and sourdough bread. The portion sizes were decent, and the food was tasty. The sourdough bread was super crunchy on the outside and light and airy on the inside. However, the steep cost did not match the food and overall experience.
For the sake of clarity, it might be helpful to state “bar” on the reservation slot during the kitchen’s closure, as “restaurant” suggests food will be available. Additionally, adding service times to the dinner menu would be useful.
Otherwise, it’s a nice venue, and I would consider revisiting when the kitchen is open.
