10 Luxury Hotels Located Near U.S. National Parks - AFAR

"A safari-style canvas-tent camp located a short drive from the park’s west entrance that immerses guests under expansive skies with 59 tents offering a range of lodging options and private decks or viewing windows. The property features complimentary morning yoga, evening s’mores, West Elm furnishings, on-site experience coordinators who can book trail, fly-fishing and whitewater excursions, and a deliberate reduction of digital distractions (limited Wi‑Fi) to foster outdoor immersion; it operates seasonally and has joined a major hotel loyalty program. Its emphasis on simple, nature-focused accommodations with supportive programming makes it a convenient, low-impact base for exploring the park." - Alexandra Cheney

We selected this so-called glamping site because of its closeness to the entrance to Glacier National Park, and because it was considerably less expensive than the nearby (much more expert) Under Canvas glamping resort.||What a mistake! My suggestion: Pay the extra and go to Under Canvas half a mile away, all of whose resorts that we have visited are fabulous.||We got there half an hour AFTER check in time, and our tent was not ready. When the cleaning lady finally did finish prepping, while we waited outside, we discovered that the tent had a carpet that was WET for one third of its length. Disgusting. The one chair in the tent was ripped. We were supposed to have two solar lamps in the tent. There was only one in the tent and it didn’t work! And the solar lamp that was supposed to be at the entrance of the tent was broken. Thank god we had a flashlight. Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to make our way to the outhouse or bathhouse.||Wander Camp markets themselves as glamping but it is anything but. What they provide is a tent with a (admittedly comfortable) bed and that's it. There were no additional services or unique experiences that would have justified calling it a glamping esperience. Nothing. It was just a tent raised by someone else. Nothing special.

Dont book here it is a total SCAM!!! We made a reservation for 3 nights and there was no running water. Toilets, sinks and showers could not be used!! They said they would fix it overnight but they did not. After sending dozens of messages back and forth for weeks, they promised us a 50% refund but started ghosting us again the minute we agreed to settle it that way. We are used to camping, but if you book a glamping for 500$, the least you expect is running water!! Furthermore, the pictures online are old or from other camps and did not match reality. Had the feeling they focused more on the treehouses and the tents were a side business. The roads are awful, the tents are between the trees and full of holes so spiders and other bugs can get inside and there is no one on site to help immediately. They take advantage of this so your complaints cannot be solved right away. By the time you have a proper response, you are already home. The camp is near a road and a railway, trains pass by all night. Also, no safety measures against bears!! Most horrible experience ever and definitely not worth your money.

The name of this place should be changed from Wander Camp to Wonder Camp, because you’ll wonder why you ever decided to stay here! Don’t be deceived by the romanticism of the misleading “glamping” photos on their website. Almost everything about our stay here was NOT what was advertised on their website. We were deceived! ||When we arrived, the tent we were given had a broken zipper and wouldn’t close. We were then given a different tent, which also had a broken zipper, but we were able to jimmy it to close most of the way. The tents were set on uneven dirt patches, so nothing was level. (Most of the other glamping places we’ve seen before put the tents on wooden platforms to be level.) We had to rearrange the furniture inside to get it level enough so we didn’t slide out of bed. One night it rained and the tent flooded. There were big puddles all over the floor, and everything we had got soaked! We had our luggage on the floor since there were no luggage racks or benches, so a lot of our stuff got completely ruined. We had to throw away brand new books as they were unsalvageable from water damage. The solar lights they provided didn’t work at all. Thankfully we had headlamps and flashlights with us. The bathrooms were just small stalls on a trailer, with RV style toilets. The water on the property was non potable, so we could even get a drink, or brush our teeth safely! In the showers the water would go from ice cold to scalding hot, with no in between. To keep the water on you had to hold down a chain while showering. The “campfire area” was not close to the tents, and was so overgrown with grass and weeds. There were no picnics tables anywhere on the grounds, and nowhere to cook on our camp stove or wash dishes. Parking was inadequate; there were not enough spaces for guests to park in front t of their tents. This place was not just a bad experience for us, but for some of the other people we chatted with who were also staying there. They too had felt very deceived by the website.||The only nice thing about our stay was that the bed was comfortable. But you can’t just put a bed with pretty pillows in a big tent and call it “glamping” without things being in good repair and having other nice amenities. ||Find somewhere else to stay! You’ll be very glad you did! ||This was at the Glacier, Montana location. We can’t speak to other Wander Camp locations, but please do some serious research before booking at any of them, as they all share the same website.

I stayed at the camp the first weekend of August and had a great time! I got a tent with a king size bed on a platform. The tent and bed were huge and very nice inside. The Camp is definitely located off the Grid about 15 min from glaciers west entrance. You will have to drive down a dirt road to get there and the tents are in a dense forest which was exactly what I hoped for! You also have a chance to see some cool wildlife.

Despite all the bad reviews we wanted to experience this on our own. We had a wonderful time. It was exactly as it was described. The beds were comfortable, the tent was clean. The bathrooms clean. The blankets and pillows were perfect. This was in close proximity to the park. We had an amazing weekend. Friday night fire in the community fire pit. The owner brought over some wood. My only negative was that the tents and floors were uneven and felt all tents should be on a platform.

We had the most amazing time in Montana this week. It’s beautiful beyond words and the people and adventures were awesome. The only negative was where we stayed. The cabin itself wasn’t awful but looks nothing like the pictures online. |You can’t walk and explore around the lake or cabin because there are zero trails to get to it. We couldn’t use the hot tub because it was dirty and the grass was 3ft high all the way around it with no walking path. There was no where to sit and relax outside with my family because the sewer sits right by the picnic table area and obviously that wasn’t one of the campfire stories that we wanted to share. |He also failed to mention that the cabin we stayed in is also where EVERYONE checks in with the host upon arrival so we had multiple people trying to come in our front door several times in the few days we were there because apparently the host “lives” in the lower level of the cabin but her door is not visible and there are no signs regarding where to go. |The cleaner, maintenance guy and host were in and out multiple times a day to the lower level for work so there was no privacy for us and nonstop traffic between them and other campers. On Monday, the host greeted other guests and walked around in only a flannel (hopefully underwear underneath) and my daughter (7yrs) saw her bare butt bent over while she grabbed her drying laundry off the picnic table outback. 😳|There are multiple black wires laying around the cabin for you to trip over and random trash and objects scattered around. The inside is fine but overall it’s just not well cared for and not worth the money to stay there. So many other places to stay that offer more and you don’t have to worry about the lack of safety or privacy. I gave two stars because the inside wasn’t that bad.

The tents here are nice with comfy beds and warm blankets. The bathrooms were clean, but small. There is no potable water, so take that into account before booking. We arrived around 10pm, but had no problem finding our tent in the dark. Wish there were outlets or lights in the tent.

I wish I had read the review before booking. The negative reviews are accurate. At first, I was skeptical, but upon arrival, I was pretty disappointed. I arrived early and was able to watch the staff clean my tent. They did not remove or bring any linens to the tent. I pulled back the layers to find hairs from the guests before. Long hair, short hair, and short curly hair. I called and requested a refund. They asked me to send photos. I did, and they responded that the staff had claimed to wash the linens and would not get a refund because it was considered a last-minute cancelation. The floor was dirty, and mold was growing on the tent's walls. The screen door was not functional, and the bathrooms and shower is in a semi-trailer with a bunch of RV toilets. You must pull down a chain with one hand while using the showers. Very cramped and wet. Much of this is relayed to you after booking.

Yelp
Lots of love about this place. 1. Not too expensive 2. Clean bed 3. Hot water for the shower 4. They cleaned the restrooms daily 5. Great communication 6. Great location, close to a Glacier NP 7. I have Verizon - enough signal to work 8. Our tent was pretty big (not all are) A few negatives 1. No on-site host (easy to get a hold of them if you need to.) 2. Parking is tight 3. No electricity We'd absolutely stay here again.

Yelp
After spending 2 nights at this place I learned that our disappointment was not unique. Almost every other guest had the same complaints. I am compelled to write this because their website leaves out many details. 1st, there is not enough parking for guests. I had to back my vehicle in between trees adjacent to our site. There is no place near the tents for typical camping activities. No place for a fire pit or cooking. The tents are along the roads. Exit your tent and you're done! Of 3 shower stalls offered only 1 worked and that was working very badly. There is no selection for temperature. You pull a chain to turn on the water. It goes from freezing cold to scalding hot at random. That's when there actually was working water. Many times the water was off. There are NO DUMPSTERS. This is bear country. When I found an attendant and asked where to store food trash I was told to put it in our car. I could go on. The location is nice and the potential is there however for anyone seeking a civilized stay, this is NOT for you!

Yelp
This place is a dangerous scam. For them to charge $200 nightly and advertise all of the amenities, you can have a better experience down the road at the KOA for a fraction of the price. The entirety of my stay, they refused to refund me. As a solo female traveler, safety is of the utmost importance to me. I paid a premium price to not have to worry about certain amenities camping- instead I spent my stay filled with anxiety and feeling incredibly unsate. -no parking for some tents -no bear trash cans -people throwing away food in unsecured trash cans in the bathrooms - in grizzly country and in 90 degree heat (the smell was gag inducing) -unable to shower or use the toilet without wanting to throw up for the smell- this was very different from normal outdoor toilets. This was the smell of rancid food -Wander Camp tells guests to throw away food in their "secure" trash cans and to not keep in tents- however the only trash cans provided were flimsy plastic track cans with the hanging flippy lids in the bathrooms behind flimsy doors) -all showers broken -toilets overflowing -rug inside tent rotting -zero staff on site for the entirety of my stay -the advertised convening space was actually a few picnic tables in knee high grass
