🟦 This is a solemn and sacred space of remembrance.
🟩 Located right in front of Raffles City Shopping Centre, the Civilian War Memorial Park stands as a powerful tribute to the countless civilians who lost their lives during the Second World War aka WW2.
⚫️ The four white memorial pillars, also known as "The Chopsticks," represent the shared suffering of Singapore's main ethnic groups — Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Eurasian — and serves as a symbol of unity in grief & resilience.
🟩 I have visited this Civilian Memorial park from time to time over several years. ➡️ Each visit reminds me of the deep sacrifices made by those who perished during the Japanese Occupation.
🟨 It is a peaceful & verdant green space amidst the bustling city, where one can pause, reflect, contemplate, and pay respects to those who died so that we could live in peace today.
❇️ May all who perished during WW2 rest in eternal peace. We will never forget. 🟦 May my paternal grandparents rest in peace too. They lost their lives in Feb 1942.
