Marvellously evocative place. Much more detailed and complete than the initial "grotto in the cliffside" might suggest. Limited boat crossings, and affected by both season add weather, so check beforehand. The path from the castle, or from the bottom of the village, is easy enough, but the hermitage itself isn't exactly accessible, especially at low water level.

Boats only available on Sundays and Mondays at the moment (May) so can't see much from the other side of the river.

It was a lovely walk down from the castle and a tranquil place to visit. Not really suitable for people with major mobility issues due to the steep hill, kissing gate and large steps into and out of the boat. You need to book your tickets and time slot at the main castle site. 3 generations enjoyed the visit.

Hadn’t been there for many years and finally managed to get myself organised. Lovely walk from the castle and ferry across was brilliant. The guide was knowledgeable and humorous. Excellent

Great piece of hidden history. There can be very few similar sites in the UK. Even gets an entry into Simon Jenkins book: "England's Thousand Best Houses."

After a beautiful short walk along the river you're taken across in a small boat. Interesting hidden gem !! Make sure you book and pay at Warkworth castle. Don't just turn up at the crossing site !

The whole area is steeped in history but the Hermitage is a bit magical and mysterious. Hard to describe and is best seen up close. The walk along the river is superb and I saw Kingfishers for the second time this week.

Skipped the Castle and went straight to this hermitage. You have to pick your times as the river is tidal and you need to get the Engliah Heritage boat across. Hewn out of bare rock some 1000 years ago it is both tranquile and eerie; love the flood levels carced into the rock going back hundreds of years. Nice walk back along the river to the town.
