28 Best Restaurants in Singapore | Condé Nast Traveler

"Warong Nasi Pariaman is the longest-running nasi padang joint in Singapore, having served the Indonesian rice specialty since 1948. Fittingly, the restaurant remains true to its origins today, turning out dishes like ayam bakar (barbecued chicken served in a thick, mildly spiced coconut gravy) and sambal goreng (a spicy stir-fry of long beans, tempeh, and diced beancurd). The place fills up quickly, so come early to avoid waiting. Also note that because the restaurant is Halal certified, there's no alcohol on the menu." - Annette Tan

10 Singapore heritage restaurants to visit for a taste of nostalgia - SilverKris

"Possibly Singapore’s longest-surviving nasi padang establishment, founded in 1948 by Jumrin Isrin and grown from a humble warong into a full eating house run by his children. It’s known for faithful renditions of regional favourites such as beef rendang and ayam bakar (grilled chicken), offering hearty, traditional plates of rice with mixed dishes." - SilverKris

A tradition of charcoal and spices. Yeah. My chili sambal is full of ashes. Is this normal? Beef rendang, sambal goreng, begerdil were average. I think.... tak boleh la

I love indo/malay padangs for the spices they use and understand its normal to deep fried their meat twice. BUT this plate is just normal white rice, the cheap kind. A small piece of fried chicken breast, meat tough like rubber sole, as if it was fried 3 times. Sayuh lodeh probably is their most consumable thing on my plate. Plus a normal tauhu goreng. I was charged $8.70. The corner eatery is shabbily furnished. No air-con no fan, thank God it was a rare 29C afternoon. The lady at the cashier has the most cant be bothered attitude. I will tag this as NOT WORTH TRYING.

My husband asked for sayur but was given jackfruit which he didn't realise. $4 a plate. Since it's dished out, we didn't return it. Then we ordered another sayur. It's not like the usual type and the proportion of cabbage vs long bean is 20-80. $4 a plate. Rendang is good, that's all. Total was $22.89 and was told $22.90 by paynow.

Came for breakfast at around 9am. There was already plenty of Nasi Padang dishes for you to choose from. Paid about $8 for 3 dishes plus 1 Teh Ice. Overall an okay meal!👌🏻

You can get Individual portions of rice served with your selected means and vegetables . There was 5 of us and I spent $84 The must order is the fried tahu telur drenched in a sweet n savoury peanut sauce . I love their fried ikan bills and peanut ! I got Ayam Bakar which is grilled chicken doused in a sweet sauce but it was marinated with herbs and grilled . The tamarind /asam fish was tough and not what I thought it would be , will skip it . The beef rendang was suppose to be tasty too .

Incredible street-side restaurant located in Kampong Glam, Singapore. My party and I enjoyed every dish, from the potatoes to the mutton to the grilled veggies and fish. It's hard to pick a favorite because all the dishes were delightfully flavorful and aesthetically pleasing to behold. The atmosphere of the restaurant, being open air on the street, adds a casual radiance that entices small gatherings of kin and friends to pull up a seat and make conversation. I will definitely be going back.

We went there for a staff luncheon. Service was fantastic! Staff were very attentive. They were also generous with their servings of food for our buffet. They have an air-conditioned seating area upstairs that was very suitable for our luncheon. Rendang is yummy and their local kueh was good!

Yelp
Warong Nasi Pariaman has been our staple to "treat" ourselves. These are what I could recall, whenever my Mother is willing to drive all the way to this Shop just to have the "Ayam Masak Hijau"... that is what I called that dish.. This eatery is still at the corner and now with all the expansion, they can cater more patrons dining in. I could still recall where before 11:30hrs on a weekday, there will be definitely a LONG Queue aka Long Line for the "Ayam Masak Hijau". By 12:30hrs, many moons ago, the "Ayam Masak Hijau" is SOLD OUT! Fast forward 2018, on a Friday afternoon, I brought along HT to have a late lunch here. This visit was sometime back in September 2018. We ordered several items such as Bergedil, Beef Rendang, Mutton or Lamb Rendang, Sayur Masak Lemak, Gulai Nangka and the "Ayam Masak Hijau". The actual term for this "Ayam Masak Hijau" at Warong Nasi Pariaman they called it as Ayam Panggang or Ayam Bakar aka Charcoal Grilled Chicken. During that afternoon, they also include a Gulai gravy and 2 spicy sauce as part of condiment for our Lunch Feast. Both of us like the Rendang, especially more towards the Mutton or Lamb Rendang. The Mutton or Lamb Rendang is more tender and flavorful. The Beef Rendang that we had was more tougher cut of Beef. We also like the Bergedil. Who can say NO to Deep Fried Potato Patty? We cannot! During that afternoon, The Ayam Bakar was somewhat NOT like how I could recall. I so wish they could charcoal grilled it longer in order to taste the "smoky-ness" or more charring to be done for this dish. The leftdown was the Gulai Nangka. It tasted slightly sour or more to rancid. Maybe it was a fluke, maybe its their off day or something. Most dishes were slightly lukewarm. Overall, its 3.25 stars for me. Coz it bring me fond memories of those "treats" especially the "Ayam Masak Hijau" dish. I may return when needed. The staffs also take their time to answer several questions about some of the dishes that my friend is curious about. After dining, proceed to the counter with your order receipt, so you can make your Meal payment. That afternoon we pay by CASH and our Lunch was less than $30 including beverages.

Yelp
I think we over ordered for 3 persons to share as there was leftover for every dish except the bergedil. Besides the bergedil (very big when compared to others' versions), we also ordered the beef rendang, sambal goreng, ayam bakar in green curry, chicken gulai and sayur lodeh. Of those, I really liked the chicken gulai. Usually gulai curry would be spicy but their version was not that hot so I could enjoy it. The grilled chicken green curry was also nice and great for those who could not take much spicy food. The beef rendang was a bit on the dry side. Loved the sambal goreng. Sayur lodeh was ok. You couldn't go wrong with bergedil too. Fried potato patty, how could anyone dislike it? The rice was ok, not the usual rice though. It was more grainy like basmati but somehow I doubt it was that. It was not very crowded when we were there on Saturday for lunch. I would not mind going back again when I want nasi padang.

Yelp
I'm actually a fan of this place. The food was ok, and I completely forgot that Padang food is served at room temperature. I mean even the rice was not warm at all. Regardless, the Cik that helped me was great. She was a little terse which I'm figuring out is the nature of most of the Malay servers that I've encountered in SIN. However, I loved it. First, the food was actually really good and even spicy enough for me. Second, the servers are still mostly Malay. These are the warongs of my childhood and I miss that. Nothing like coming home.

Yelp
3.5 stars. Solid spot. I ordered a grilled sardine in soy sauce, two potato balls in chily sauce and their famous chicken in coconut sauce. Everything was pretty good.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday morning at 10am, and found seats easily. Your standard nasi padang place; order whatever you like, they'll bring it over with rice, and you pay after. Because of the history of this place, I expected better. The rendang was a little dry and too salty for me, and the begedil was nothing special. The pickled cucumber, meh. The veggies; well they were okay. Food is affordable here, we had all the stuff in the photo with two drinks - $18.

Yelp
This unassuming corner stall open to the street is my friend's long-time family favorite, and he was even good buddies with the owner! I might be a bit biased since I felt like we got pretty special treatment, getting to try all the different dishes they offered here. They're especially known for the mutton soup with a mirepoix (onion, carrot, celery) base, but everything was very flavorful. They have a variety of little small plates, like tapas, so you can have an assortment of dishes. Unfortunately I don't know the names of all the dishes, but I can describe them as green curry chicken, spicy fish fillet, whole fish with soy sauce and chili/onions/bell peppers, squid curry, fried chicken, pickles/peanuts, vegetable curry, and green beans+tofu cubes. So delicious, and I can only trust that it's authentic indonesian nasi padang (miniature banquet of meats, fish, vegetables, and spicy sambal with rice)!

Yelp
Really enjoyed lunch here. I'm not familiar with Indonesian food, so we just asked them to pick out some favorites for us and each dish was delicious. I'd certainly go back and recommend to all.

Yelp
This is our family favorite Nasi Padang stall. My parents, my 3 children and all members of my family love the food there. My parents visited the stall quite frequently in the past when I was a teenager. What is amazing is that the taste and standard of the food did not change much after so many years in business (more than 30years in biz I think). What is nice over there? A must try is the Ayam Bakar (grilled chicken with green curry). This green curry is mild and not spicy hot but filled with nice aroma of coconut milk and light spice. The curry go really well with plain rice. Next on the must try list are rendang, curry chicken, hard boiled egg with chili paste. Also special mention to the chili paste. It is not spicy hot, nor sour. Just the right spiciness, with a tint of nice aroma of grilled chili. Add the chili paste, curry or green curry with plain rice is enough to make the usually tasteless plain rice delicious enough to eat it on its own. Parking or getting a seat during lunch time may be a challenge though. Also be sure to visit the stall earlier around 11-11.30am before the lunch time crowd to avoid disappointment of food running out. Also do not expect Raffles Class service standard. Price wise is comparatively on the high side but not unreasonable (don't think it's restaurant pricing). I wouldn't mind paying the slight premium as long as the standard of the food is maintained and the food remain delicious. In my opinion they are one of the best Nasi Padang Stall in Singapore.

Yelp
If you're a fan of Nasi Padang, then this is the place to be! It's been around since 1948, a family-owned business, you can almost taste the rich history in the food. The signature dishes which I have had the pleasure of sampling is the Ayam Bakar and the Beef Rendang. Not forgetting their yummy Sambal Goreng, especially if you're a big tempeh fan like I am. Everything here is served with a side plate of their fragrant home-made chilli sauce. They open early and the lunch crowd gets thick by 1230pm everyday. So you might want to beat the crowd and come in before noon. The prices are moderate, not the cheapest option for nasi padang but I guarantee it's worth the trip.

Yelp
If you're wandering by this corner stall, it may not seem like much. But if you're that at lunch time you'll notice that the yellow chairs are filled up with locals digging into some classic Nasi Padang, and you know you're onto something. While most of the dishes I tried were average, the beef rendang stood out as some of the best I've had in the city! Their chilli sauce is also great, and the chicken is pretty good as well. As cheap and authentic as you can get!

Yelp
My food wasn't very warm. The service seemed typical and okay. Variety okay. Not very spicy but decently spiceful. Ayanna Bakar was fine. Overall left give or take satisfied but I don't think I'd return due to this place. Compared to the reviews I was hoping for better maybe it was an off day but I think food should be a good temperature of warmth when given if it supposed to be hot food.

Yelp
My mom and I were looking for a place to have lunch when she saw these teenagers holding plastic bags filled with take-away food, so we asked them where they got them from. They told us it's from Pariaman, a nasi padang place. I was instantly drooling. But of course I have to check my trusted yelp and read the reviews. Even though there were only 2 reviews but the verdict's good! So we walked there, and wow the place is totally packed! Sadly we only managed to get fried chickens and jackfruit curry. Omymy, the taste was heavenly! The rice was poured with the curry sauce and sambal immediately makes my hungry tummy happy. The sambal's not spicy to my taste. I'm embarrased to say though I'm an Asian but I can't really take the heat, so don't worry when I said not spicy, it's not. The flavor of the whole food really did resemble the nasi padang in Indonesia, which means.. Mom and I are going back again tomorrow.

Yelp
Went back here, after so many years. Pleased to find that the food standard is maintained. Still delicious as before. A satisfying meal, indeed.
