As other reviewers have mentioned, The Warren Store is a must visit destination. I don't know why.....something about the location, the charm of the smallness and simplicity of the rustic interior, or maybe it's the waterfall in the back of the building where one can sit on a picnic table to enjoy their sandwich and snacks. But here's the thing, The Warren Store is not just about being reminiscent of a bygone atmosphere. They actually serve really really really outstanding food. No really! This revelation only came to us after we ordered our first Godzilla sandwich which consists of a moderate portion of freshly sliced rare roast beef, Swiss cheese, thinly sliced red onion, fresh leaf lettuce, and a slice of tomato. We opted for regular mayo instead of horseradish mayo and locally sourced gluten free sliced white bread instead of regular bread. My husband also ordered a cup of soup.....I think it was mushroom chicken?.....which was one of the two selections of the day.
After savoring each bite of The Godzilla, we both looked at each other in agreement that we had to leave with two more sandwiches to go. Incidentally, by the time it took us to finish lunch, one of their soup selections had already been wiped off the chalk board.
So on to round two. Of course we had to get another Godzilla and in the same way. In addition, we ordered The Family which is their version of an Italian sandwich with oil and vinegar dressing, salami, capicola, provolone cheese, onions, lettuce, tomato and regular mayo per our request. We also had this on gluten free sliced white bread and asked them to hold the hot pepper relish which comes standard.
As I write this in the comfort of our own home over 6,000 miles away from The Warren Store with a couple of boxes of locally made Maple Almond Brittle and Dark Chocolate Dipped Salted Caramels in hand, I conclude that this was definitely a memorable part of our trip and think you'll find it to be for you too.
