19 Best Restaurants in Bali, Offering Indonesian Classics, Vegan Tasting Menus, and More

"Warung Pak Malen specializes in one thing only: babi guling, whole roasted suckling pig, a signature of Balinese cooking and ceremonies. A set meal here consists of pork prepared in a variety of ways. First up is a heady spiced broth with pork, which you drink directly from the bowl. Then it's on to the main event, a bamboo plate piled high with rice, roasted pork, pork satay, fried pork, a piece of fried pork rind, some pork skin, and braised pork. Sides include traditional lawar, a mix of long-cooked vegetables, and spicy sambal. This is a meal that most visitors will try at least once—Balinese people eat it often—and Pak Malen manages to be a step above other warungs without abandoning its traditional feel." - Regan Stephens

We arrived at this place around 11:40am and it was already quite crowded, with a short queue. The staff took our order and payment first before seating us, which helped streamline the process. Most customers seem to go for the combo set, which includes the restaurant's signature items like crispy pork skin, fried pork belly, and pork liver. However, the portions for each are quite small—just one piece of pork skin, two pieces of pork belly, and one piece of liver, which felt a bit limited. The sauces were a nice addition. The red chili was mild, while the green chili packed more heat and had a great flavour. The fried long bean with pork was a standout dish for me—flavourful and well-cooked—but some of my friends found it too spicy. I wasn’t a fan of the fresh coconut water, as they only serve young coconuts here. It lacked the strong coconut flavour I prefer, and tasted slightly sour and unusual to me. Overall, I can see why this restaurant is popular—the food quality is good, though it didn’t quite blow me away. It’s definitely worth a visit, but it helps to go in with the right expectations.

For authentic Bali food! This is a must try! But try at your own risk! They have flies flying around their displayed food! But none of my friends or myself had any issue. The food is not bad. It’s worth a try. It’s affordable too! Their chilli can be quite spicy so do get some water in case! Don’t get ice in case got Bali belly!

The food was superb! Definitely one of the best babi guling spots in Bali at the moment. I also appreciated how clean the food felt—it made me less worried about getting Bali belly! 🤭 There was a bit of a queue to order. One suggestion: it would be helpful if the menu was visible to those waiting in line, so people can decide ahead of time and speed up the ordering process. Despite the queue, the food was served quickly. The place itself was modern and clean. Overall, a very pleasant experience!🙆‍♂️

I visited this restaurant on a recommendation from an acquaintance. The crispy fried pork had a very fragrant aroma that really got my appetite going. At first, they asked me if I was okay with spicy food, and when I told them I wasn't too keen on it, they probably adjusted the spiciness, which allowed me to finish the whole thing deliciously. The staff were polite, and the restaurant was very clean, so I was able to eat with peace of mind.

Authentic Balinese food, a must-try when you're in Bali! The sambal is really spicy, and the pork is flavorful. The place is clean, but when we visited, it was quite crowded. We sat upstairs, which was a bit hot. I ate and sweated. Still worth it for the taste.

I can say this is the best babi guling in Bali. the crispy pork is so tasty full of spices and full of flavours. I ordered spesial pisah which comes with more pork meats and separate rice and soup. it's fast serving even though the restaurant is so busy. no need to wait long if you are hungry. price is reasonable and actually much cheaper than the other overhyped babi guling. do yourself a favour and eat babi guling here. no need to look for other places

Bali local delicacy 👍🏻 the service is quite fast and professional. The pork itself has a distinguished flavor and slightly sweet compared to other babi guling. But overall love the combination of the pork inside

Lunch for two. If you’re coming here with your own transportation, you should keep a look out for the signboard as the restaurant cannot really be seen from the main road. No covered parking, so bring a hat or umbrella if it looks gloomy. If you’re booking a grab from here, you may need to walk out and wait coz you definitely can’t see the car coming. Food was really good. The sambals were so so good. Cleanliness was okay. This place is really famous and you may need to queue. Go early if you plan to have lunch, like what we did.
