On the Grid : Wasabi Juan’s

"The concept sounds like a late-night, sleep-deprived brain burp — what if sushi rolls were as huge as burritos? Believe it or not, the hybrid works, and Wasabi Juan’s tiny café is packed at lunch and late at night (it’s next door to Avondale Brewing). Swap the corn tortilla for a soy wrap and stuff your burrito with sushi-inspired fillings like avocado, shrimp or spicy tuna. Offering a fun take on fusion, they also serve up “MexiCokes”, spicy tuna-filled tacos, coconut rice “fruishi” rolls and Avondale Brewery craft beers." - Lewis Communications

First time here and tried the sushi nachos. Such a great dish that you can’t get just anywhere! The flavor was incredible but the value wasn’t so great. I spent about $15 a piece for my meal and for each of my son’s meals. They got the sushi burritos and rated them a 6/10. One of my sons immediately wondered aloud about their profit margin. I would definitely go back but hope they increase the amount of food for the price.

I'm super impressed with how my experience was. The cashier was super friendly, the food was amazing and is a hidden gem here in Birmingham! They also offer gluten free and vegetarian options!! I would go back in a heartbeat.

I've only ordered food once from here we got it delivered to our office. I believed I had ordered the Lord Have Mercy. It was pretty good and I would definiely come again but it wasn't mind blowing and I thought the side of chips and salsa was kinda lame. Next time I'd get no side or choose a different one. Expect the same pricing as normal sushi. I do really appreciate their website though! Straight to the point.

Google
Been meaning to stop here a while and finally got the chance on a slow day after running errands. It was amazing! The staff is super nice, the store was well kept, and the food was amazing. It even looked just as good as something you’d see in an ad. The value was really good too because I wasn’t expecting much for 2 tacos given how expensive everything has become lately but they were pretty filling!

Google
Food truck at ross bridge market- Samurai burrito was a great mix of flavors and textures and the side salsa was fresh and bright to contrast. Delicious!

Google
Nice, helpful guy at the order window guided me through the menu and I was happy with his recommendations. Hippy Burrito with a side of cucumber was fresh and light, on the point on spiciness, flavorful, interesting, and full of textures. The sushi burrito was fun but I really enjoyed the extremely simple cucumber salad that came with a light dusting of sesame seeds.

Google
Okay so the concept right away is awesome! Sushi burritos, chips and salsa on the side, nachos with poke toppings... amazing! Funky fun inside with posters lining the wall for upcoming concerts and art events. The staff was extremely helpful with any questions about the menu. The food came out extremely fast as well! On to the food: Delish! My daughter loves miso soup so we each order one. The portion is generous and has lots of yummy tofu and that perfect umami broth! For my burrito I ordered the LHM (Lord Have Mercy!) spicy tuna*, shrimp, cream cheese, spicy mayo, unagi sauce, & avocados. Godzilla size so extra everything! Highly recommend. Very fresh tuna and loved the sauce. My husband ordered a Godzilla size Rick Roll: grilled steak, spicy tuna*, cream cheese, ninja sauce, unagi sauce & Dorito crunch. That Doritos crunch though!!! Omg so good! Don't knock it til you try it! Safe to say I can't wait to go back!

I love food fusion! Japanese and Mexican are 2 of my faves. The staff was amazing! Food was absolutely delicious. So many options and such a nice change from the norm!

Yelp
My sister & I made a quick trip to Birmingham and she mentioned that she'd found a questionable gluten-sensitive restaurant. She questioned it because it was an Asian-Mexican fusion restaurant. I was intrigued and figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. The restaurant lives in a very low key center with a barbershop and brewery. The inside was relatively small but had enough room that you could enjoy your meal without hearing everything the table next to you is discussing. The menu was pretty straight forward considering the combinations weren't anything you'd successfully make at home. Service was quick and friendly (I think it's family-owned). Food was everything that I didn't know that I needed! I had the 4:20 nachos, Ceviche taco & Avondale taco. My sister even gave me a bit of her Samurai burrito. *chef's kiss* I can't wait to come back for my own sushi burrito!

Yelp
Why eat one food when you could eat a fusion of TWO of the best foods the world has to offer! My wife & I swung by Wasabi Juan's to pick up lunch to take to Drag Brunch at Hi-Wire Brewing yesterday. Wasbi Juan's is located downtown & specializes in sushi burritos & sushi tacos. My wife ordered the Poke & Sticky featuring Hawaiian styled Poke with tuna, onions, macadamia nuts, sesame seeds, sesame seed oil & soy sauce served on a bed of cabbage with a side of sushi rice. Neither of us had tried this before & it sounded interesting. It was delicious! The tuna was fresh & was so lovely with the onions & crunch of the macadamia nuts. I'm glad she ordered it. I'd definitely order it in the future. I ordered my old Wasabi Juan's favorite, The Toro Sushi Burrito featuring steak, shrimp, cream cheese, avocado & unagi sauce with added jalapeño & chips & queso as my side. Excellent, as per use. Steak in sushi is where it's at. Service at Wasabi Juan's was friendly & efficient. I was really shocked to see one person running the register & running the kitchen, but she was doing the damn thing. Maybe, like a lot of places, they're short staffed. I expected this to delay service, but no. Very casual atmosphere. They serve glass bottle Coke's (& Sprite too I think. I would have gotten one, but we were headed to Hi-Wire). It had been too long, Wasabi Juan's. Thanks for a great lunch!

Yelp
This was my first time at Wasabi Juan's, and maybe it was just a little hyped up. The food was just okay. Not a ton of flavor in my burrito, and the chips were a little stale. I like the concept, just wasn't the best execution!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I absolutely love this place. We both got the rainbow sushi burrito and IT IS SO GOOD. The boss and staff there are also super friendly, we love them!! The inside sitting area is also super cool, we loved the vibes this restaurant gives off!!

Yelp
Not sure what the big deal is here. Not impressed at all. The salsa was Pace or equivalent. Yuck.

Yelp
YOU ARE MY SOYMATE! Fusion cuisine is food that combines elements of different culinary traditions that originate from different countries. The elements are combined together to create a wonderful new creation. This is typically seen with (Mexican Pizza, Spaghetti Tacos, etc). Located in The Battery, Wasabi Juan's is a perfect example of fusion cuisine right here in Birmingham. They are combining elements of Japanese and Mexican foods together to create their very own Sushi Burritos. I never thought I would be writing a review about how much I throughly enjoyed a Japanese and Mexican fusion restaurant, but I am certainly surprising myself. This was my first time inside Wasabi Juan's, however I have eaten their food before. A coupe weeks ago I was going to a friends house to watch a movie her boyfriend had picked us up some burritos from Wasabi Juan's but I wanted to wait to write this review till I had actually come inside and experienced the restaurant as well as the food. The inside is very cute. There is plenty of seating both inside and outside. The walls inside are painted a bright green almost the same color as wasabi, so you are given the feeling that you are in a fresh and healthy environment. I have to give it to Wasabi Juan's for going all out with the Japanese theme. I even noticed the napkin and silverware holders are made to look like samurai. So cute. The little things that this restaurant does to incorporate the theme into the restaurant are subtle and if you are not looking for them you might easily miss them. Another example of this is the lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Lanterns are kind of a big deal in the Japanese culture. There is a wall dedicated to upcoming events and concerts in the Birmingham Metro area. I have aways loved to see establishments that bring the community together by letting them know about the upcoming events. They really try to keep the mood mellow inside Wasabi Juan's. I noticed that they were playing music that kept a the mood light and refreshing. Ed Sheehan and Taylor swift were playing. Nothing too loud or obnoxious. A very big menu is on the wall as soon as you walk inside. The menu has a wide range of options from tacos, burritos and even some nachos. I know you must be thinking to yourself, but that just sounds like a Mexican food menu. That my fried is where you are wrong. The burritos are very different from any other burrito you may get anywhere else. They are in fact, sushi burritos. Raw burritos is one of the category on the menu. This idea might scare some people off, but if you are a seafood lover, you might just find a new food trend to love. Imagine everything you love about your typical burrito, now erase most of that idea. These burritos are different from the everyday burrito you may be thinking about right now. Yes they are wrapped in a tortilla shell, but they have rice and sometimes even raw tuna or shrimp inside. Since Courtney and I came together last night, Court cannot eat shellfish so we both decided on getting the South Beach cooked burrito. This burrito is made up of grilled steak, cream cheese, plantains, usually green peppers. Unfortunately, they did not have the green peppers that are usually in the burrito, but they were able to substitute jalapeños. As much as I was disappointed that I did not get the usual green peppers, the jalapeños gave a subtle kick of spice that the burrito really needed. We definitely encouraged the manager to keep the jalapeños inside that burrito on the menu. One thing did notice about this restaurant is that there was not alcohol. I think the if they had added some bottled or canned beers or even some seltzers into the drink cooler they might make a little extra money. But that is just my opinion. I am not sure what is in their contract as they are located directly next to the pedal tours and Birmingham district brewery. We were very happy to find the glass bottled sodas in the fridge. For whatever reason, drinking soda out of the glass bottles tastes so much better than out of plastic. Overall, this restaurant has some interesting food, good customer service and is in a very good location.

Rebecca P.

Yelp
The vibe needs some work. It was unpleasant to wait in a crowded area for 30 minutes with no alcohol or Wi-Fi and games that were missing pieces. I felt like it took way to long to get our food, which wasn't a great value for our money. We liked the 420 nachos (but the ratio of tuna to chips was disappointing), the Cajun edamame, and the rainbow burrito. They were all unique and delicious. The salsa was not good. My taco shells (ceviche and avondale) were stale. It's more expensive than sushi, but takes much longer to prepare, and you have to clean up after yourself. Which is fine, but creates a mismatch in price and value. I think a few different tasty and fresh salsas, alcohol, and Wi-Fi would improve the business dramatically, but food prep also needs to happen more quickly in a space that small. If I order this again, I will definitely call ahead and take it to go.

Florence H.

Yelp
When I eat here I need to try hard to remember it's not sushi, but just a food in its own category. That said, I do enjoy WJ as a quick affordable meal. Ingredients are fresh and the price is right ($15 for a very filling lunch) . The rice isn't perfect sushi rice but I don't expect it to be. I really like the touch of dorito crunch I had in my burrito! I'd probably offer a different side than chips and salsa, that doesn't really make sense to me but I guess it fits with the Mexican Asian fusion theme.

Abby M.

Yelp
LOVED my dinner here. I kept hearing that they were very gluten-free friendly so I decided to finally give it a try and WOW the ceviche tacos were awesome. So fresh and full of flavor!!! The place is small but very clean.

Yelp
I loooove Wasabi Juan's! They serve up tasty sushi "burritos" and have never disappointed. One of my favorites is the Destin, which contains shrimp and cream cheese, but I also like the LHM and the 420 nachos. Before I tried it, I would have told you it was nuts to put raw tuna on doritos and expect it to taste good- but I'm a believer! I love that the burritos are wrapped in rice paper- it makes them so much easier to consume! The restaurant is small and parking is minimal, But I've never been able to find a seat or space. That may be different in higher traffic hours, no idea. I would definitely recommend that anyone who has doubts about this particular fusion cuisine to TRY IT! It's so so tasty!!

Yelp
I miss this place a lot. Adding Doritos to the ignition burrito was so good. Love the wrap they used for them too. I moved away but compare sushi burritos to this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute intimate restaurant. Reasonably priced. Very unique flavor combinations. Vegetarian options: 1 entree & 5 sides. The nachos had tuna on them. I ate around the tuna. I liked them most. The slaw was not what expected. I expected to taste more mango but barely tasted any. The edamame was as expected slightly spicier than I thought, but my husband liked them. I won't be a regular, but the nachos or edamame would be a good snack while drinking a brew at District.

Yelp
We stopped here before a show at Alys UAB. Friendly service and great flavors in the tacos and burritos.

Yelp
Who doesn't love this place?? It's always clean, always friendly staff, the food is consistent. A great start for a beginner sushi eater too.

Yelp
Thank you for saving the day Wasabi Juans. It was my son's wedding day. He lives in Florida, but was here for the wedding. His request was Wasabi Juans for lunch before the evening wedding, but none of us could leave the venue because there was so much to do. One of the delivery services was able to deliver, and we were able to feed ourselves and all the groom's men. The food was delicious as usual!!

Yelp
Wasabi Juan's never disappoints! The freshness & burst of flavors are always on point, & the portions are always just right. The menu is marked gluten free (GF), & there are plenty of apps, burritos, & tacos to choose from. You can order online, & there are two locations + a food truck to satisfy your Mexican/Sushi cravings. Suggestion- Indicate dairy free options on the menu or have a separate menu for dietary restrictions (GF/DF/SF).

Yelp
first time trying on Food Truck Friday. I got the rick roll burrito. It was pretty good, had a little kick to it but I could taste a little sweet also, may have been the roll. I love sushi but this was very different, next time I'll try the nachos. Cost was $16 came with nacho chips & salsa. The guy at the truck was nice, service was a little slow because there was hardly anyone in their line, still 4 stars.

Yelp
This might've been my first sushi burrito, but it certainly won't be my last! What a great little spot nestled in downtown. I loved the old-school Dr Pepper as a nod to the beverage's history in Birmingham, and the staff were very friendly. The salsa had a mild heat level and just a touch of sweetness, which complimented the sushi well. The weather was lovely so we sat outside, and were treated to people-watching a Mario-themed bike race! Definitely a great spot for grabbing a casual, light bite.

Yelp
Delicious food! Wonderful combination or Mexican and Asian cuisine!! Amazing and intentional service! Definitely recommend!!
google avatar

Tamika J.

Yelp
I have never tried Asian and Mexican food, today was the day. I feel there is some confusion with the follow through of preparation and flavor profiles. The staff was very friendly and helpful in assisting with my order and very accommodating when I changed my order. I ordered the 420 nachos with chicken. Not sure how you can have too many flavors, but no enough flavors to make it a cohesive dish. Maybe the burrito is a better experience. Honestly, the staff was the only saving grace for me.

Yelp
Really hard to find anything wrong with this place. First off, it's located in a really cool space with a brewery close by. Actually want to come back and check that out some time. Their space isn't overly large, but they have enough seating for about 20 people inside. The menu, Asian fusion, straight up. They have come up with some truly unique combinations for their burritos and tacos. Basically, if you've never been here, take a sushi roll and wrap it in an extremely light wrapper (like a spring roll) to make it into a burrito. Don't let that scare you away though. If you aren't a fan of sushi, they have options that you may like. For example I had the South Beach: Grilled steak, cream chees, caramelized onions, green bell peppers and sweet fried plantains. I was a little skeptical of the plantains, but they were a perfect finishing touch. The staff here was awesome! Patient as we attempted to order for four. They helped get our food to the table. All in all they are what go a long ways towards making this a good experience. Highly recommend!

Yelp
When we saw the Wasabi Juan food truck was coming to our neighborhood, we were excited. Finally - about time! We've been wanting something different, and Wasabi Juan's hit the spot. We got there early, and I'm thankful we did. The line behind us was huge! We drove by a few hours later and there was still a line. Maybe they'll come back since they saw the demand! The wait for the food was a tad longer than I would have liked, but at least it was fresh. I got the Toro and the Cowboy - one for dinner one night and one for lunch the next. They were both delicious. My wife got the 420 Nachos and a Cowboy. She enjoyed both as well. Their normal chips which come as a side to the meal were fresh and salted appropriately. I didn't use their salsa and instead warmed up some queso we had at the house. I enjoyed those as well. I hope they come back soon!
google avatar

Meena C.

Yelp
Our neighborhood has been inviting food trucks to come to the local school to provide options during the COVID 19 pandemic. We've been requesting Wasabi Juan's for a while, and this past week they were finally on the schedule! Yay!! Knowing how much of a demand they were in, I told my husband we needed to get there early/right when they opened. We were the 4th order in line, and by the time we left, the line was wrapped around! Ordering/paying was easy, and given their order demand, I felt they were turning them around at a fair pace. We ordered a lot (for multiple meals)... I got the 420 nachos with chicken for dinner and the cowboy for the next day. The nachos were spot on.. just like I had remembered them! Super filling too! The cowboy was good the next day, and the chips and salsa were spot on! My husband doesn't like salsa, so I got his as well! Yum! Hopefully the truck will be back in Trussville area again soon!
google avatar

Adalena G.

Yelp
Had the food truck tonight in trussville and they did not disappoint!! I had been wanting to try the black bean soup (I'm Cuban and black beans are life) and the first time I tried the food truck they were out. Well this time they had it and omg it was delicious!!! Flavors were just right. Only thing I wasn't a huge fan of is how sticky the rice is.
google avatar

Yelp
Hm, perhaps I had slightly heightened expectations for this place, which seemed to set itself apart from other poke places in the city by showcasing only the burrito option (versus other presentations of poke - bowl, salad, etc). Food: -I didn't think this would really mess with the taste, but the unseasoned rice was really impacted the flavor (thus, soy sauce to the rescue - only partly though). -The poke/ sashimi wasn't the best texture-wise. In my non-expert judgment, I have a feeling the defrost was rushed, as someone who prepares frozen raw fish at home. Quick defrosting can really hurt quality, I found. -As for the overall burrito "set" - as much as I love my chips and salsa, I didn't think these two fusion too well imo. Service: -The ease of ordering was great via their online platform. However, do double check you are ordering to the right location of the 2 storefronts - almost sent mine to Hoover. -Pickup instructions weren't too clear to me (more like, lack thereof), but essentially pickup means curbside as they do not allow customers inside. So in a way, convenient! -However, don't expect them to follow any special instructions even if you tip them - though regardless, we should all tip especially at these times. P.S. I was very entertained by the next door booze city tour cycle that was about to depart when we were picking up out order. That goes next up on my to-explore list and would be why I might be return to this plaza (unfortunately, not for poke).

John M.

Yelp
Very good but the avocado was definitely not ready to be in my nachos needed to get softer. Way too hard but good food overall and scene.
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
I was skeptical of the whole sushi burrito concept, but I can now openly admit the errors of my snap judgment. I have eaten Wasabi Juan's as take-out, delivery, and dined on site, and all options were delicious. It is wonderful to see this business grow and expand so all can indulge in the perfection of these various Hispanic/Asian combinations.

Michael S.

Yelp
Wasn't quite sure what to expect but the reviews were good so I took a chance. The sushi burritos were great! I loved the concept and how fresh the ingredients were. The service was quick and friendly. I will definitely be back again!
google avatar

Mary Katherine L.

Yelp
A unique and delicious downtown Birmingham experience! There are plenty of cool local businesses within walking distance, and a brewery across the parking lot. A friend and I got the Rick Roll and Aloha Burrito and swapped halves-so we could try both and if you like sushi or are on the fence about it, it's a safe bet they'll have a burrito for you. I can't wait to try more. We also enjoyed the outdoor seating and the friendliness of the staff. A great stop if you're in the area.
google avatar

Katrina P.

Yelp
Love Wasabi Juan's! I've been probably about 5 times now. I have tried the Rainbow sushi burrito, Austin sushi burrito, and the Toro sushi burrito. They are all SOOO good, so I'm not sure that I could pick a favorite. At first, I thought it was strange to mix sushi concepts with Tex-mex concepts, but it is very unique and delicious! The chips on the side have a hint of lime to them. It's a casual (almost quick-service) atmosphere. I've never had a bad experience, but the employees could stand to be a tad bit friendlier.
google avatar

Darren H.

Yelp
So with a name like Wasabi Juan's I had to go and try this place. So i should have looked into it more beyond the name. This is a Mexican/sushi spot. I'm not one for seafood. Lucky for me they had a steak option (Sonora). I started with the MIso Soup and the taco comes with chips and a soda. I picked the wrong season to be here but this is less like snobby upscale place but a nice little hang out spot with a unique twist. When i'm in Alabama i'll stop by here again.
google avatar

Adrienne C.

Yelp
Thanks to Will B I got an invited to Wasabi Juan's. And this was dish. A very interesting take on nachos. Although I am not a fan of spicy food I actually enjoyed it.
google avatar

Derek S.

Yelp
I stopped there last Friday since it's my off day and pay day, why not stop at Wasabi Juan's, I haven't eaten there in ages since I went there in Avondale until they moved to downtown. Still a cool place to eat, I ordered the South Beach Burrito since they're out of my favorite - the Blazer Burrito, the burrito I ordered has steak in it, it's almost like a philly cheese steak in a sense with rice and rolled in soy-rice paper instead of the flour or corn tortilla, with tortilla chips and salsa, if they made the salsa in house, tastes fresh and bottle of Pure Leaf Lemon Tea. They never miss a beat on the burrito, very light than your standard cooked burrito and healthy also. If you're looking for something healthy and light, Wasabi Juan's the place to eat if you're in the mood for a sushi burrito, I would definitely come back for this again.
google avatar

Lexi K.

Yelp
One of my fave spots to grub! When I'm not in the mood for anything, I am usually able to satisfy the hunger with one of their sushi burritos. My go-to is always the LHM - add Dorito Crunch. It is soooooooo good!!!!
google avatar

Joy S.

Yelp
What a great little place! Asian fusion in the best way. That chicken little taco was one of my favorite dishes of all time. Wasabi Juan's is just a tiny shop in a cool urban renewal strip but it's really funky and well done. The food came out pretty quick, the staff was super nice, I just don't have anything bad to say about it! I will be back for sure.
google avatar

Axl R.

Yelp
This place is as confused as its name. It's neither here nor there. The dishes seem to be inspired by a chef who's pallet has a serious identity crisis - am I Latin/Mexican/Hispanic or am I Japanese/Asian? The rice in the had tacos is an idiot's dream. The nachos with Doritos chips are what my 5 yr old would put together. Overall it was a disaster of epic proportions. I am seriously doubting if these reviews are rigged. The only solace - the bottled water and bottled drinks. The only way I'd go back to this place was if I had to pee in my pants and needed a place to relieve myself. Believe me - stay the f away. No jokes!!
google avatar

Anthony T.

Yelp
This was an incredibly inventive restaurant with some very fun food. Staff was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Sadly I have to give Wasabi Juans a three star although I thoroughly enjoyed it on a cold winter night. I drove to the Hoover location to use a $20 gift card I had bought only to find out it had closed, but there was no update on google or anywhere that the location was closed. I called the Avondale location to see if I could use my gift card there, and very kindly they said yes. So after driving another 20 minutes we finally arrived. The Food: I decided to go with the LHM (Lord have mercy) it had tuna, shrimp, avocado, cream cheese, and unagi sauce. My girlfriend decided to get the ignition which had tuna, Doritos, jalapeños, and a few other things I don't quite remember. We both loved the chips and salsa as they seemed to instantly vanish into thin air.... or bellies. I really liked my LHM and it m was the perfect "Sushi Burrito" in my eyes. It was obviously fresh and had a lot of different sushi flavors running throughout. The ignition was tasty and unique with the crunch of the Doritos standing out to me although not my cup of tea due to the spiciness. Service: The staff was very well put together and nice. Our food came out in about 10 minutes on a relatively slow night so about your normal speed I would say. Overall: Even with the blunder of the closed restaurant I will be back due to such a welcoming staff and really unique sushi!

Yelp
Wasabi Juan's is such a niche, must-try place in Birmingham! I had the Destin Burrito, and it was delicious. The restaurant is really small - maybe 5 tables, so I'd recommend going between standard meal times.

Yelp
I flew into Birmingham on a Thursday and (literally!) went straight to Wasabi Juan's to meet my friend for a sushi burrito. I dream about these things every night, I will never not want one. Yelp
Thanks to my girlfriend and her addiction to yelp we manage to find some really awesome places to eat at. I love sushi, and Mexican food is right up there with my favorites.I have Never tasted anything like this before, and yet when you eat it for the first time it tastes familiar to you, like wearing a once favorite pair of shoes or jacket.. Like having the best of both worlds.. who would have thought it was possible. Anyway you get what I'm trying to say. We had the rainbow wrap with seaweed salad, and the Aloha wrap with mango slaw. There are a lot of subtle flavors in both wraps, so when your done with it you don't feel like you had to crush a massive order of sushi, or a wrap filled with all the messy goodness to get a satisfying feeling of fullness. That's my wrap on this experience. I hope to come across this place in south Florida sometime soon. Oh and they had T-shirts for sale, so be sure to ask them for some if you like to collect souvenirs like this.

Yelp
My first time at Wasabi Juan I had the Hippy burrito which is basically a vegetarian sushi burrito roll. I was not in the mood for meat, which is the reason I chose the veggie. I really enjoyed the sun dried tomato in the burrito but because it was all veggies it needed the soy sauce or some kind of sauce because dried veggies with rice just gives you a mouthful and hard to swallow. I also had the Juan's Nachos that comes with shrimp ceviche. For those that don't know what a "ceviche" is, is basically a "fish dish" that is cured with citrus juices and different ingredients, Most common ingredients are tomatoes, green jalapeños peppers, onions and cilantro. The ceviche was tasty but for my palette it needed more lime in order to be considered a ceviche. I will come back to try other burrito rolls especially with meat.

Yelp
Love this place and love seeing how it's boomed!! We went for lunch today, arrived around noon and there was no parking in the lot and a line to the door. Didn't stop us from dining in!! My mother in law and I ordered the Thai'd Up, D had one of the spicy tuna roll, my father in law had the 4:20 nachos and I ordered the kids a chicken kids meals to share. All of the adults enjoyed their meals! I especially loved having extra Samurai save from the kids meal to dip my roll in. Unfortunately, the kids was incredibly bland and they refused to eat it :(. I'll probably request they prepare it differently next time, or just get them edamame. We love Wasabi Juans and love having it in Bham!!!

Yelp
Wasabi Juan's has one of my go-to cravings. I usually go about once a week. The restaurant is decorated with colorful flags, paper lanterns, and posters for local concerts. Inside, there are a couple of high-top tables that seat about 6, and probably 6 other smaller tables. There is an outdoor seating area that looks like it would be pleasant during the cooler months. This establishment specializes in sushi burritos which means some kind of supportive soy wrapper on the outside (doesn't really have a flavor itself, but just holds everything together), white rice, and a menu of spirited combinations of meat, sauces, and veggies. My personal favorite is The Cowboy which contains steak, cream cheese, and avocado. I'm a hungry girl so I usually order it "Godzilla" which means twice as big for a little more cash ($16.50, whereas the regular is $11). Every roll comes with a side of chips and delicious fresh mild salsa. Like I said, the craving hits at least once a week. The staff is friendly. We usually end up laughing about something as I check out. My only complaints are that they are not open on Monday (my craving doesn't discriminate by day of the week!), and that the sushi burrito can take about 10 minutes to come out even when the restaurant isn't full, which seems a little long to me. Obviously, though, it's worth the wait!

Yelp
I loved my LHM roll from here! The salsa was also very fresh. I loved their unique idea of having a side of chips and salsa with the sushi burritos. The service was 5/5 stars as well, everyone was very friendly. I would definitely try this place again when I am stopping through Birmingham!

Yelp
It was pretty decent my first time. Not a lot of vegetarian/ vegan options. The Black Bean soup was good.

Yelp
This was a pleasant surprise. We started out to this place and opted for their neighbor Gus's Fried Chicken but I was intrigued by the concept so we came another day. I am so glad we came. The food was very fresh and had a lot of flavor. Please don't overlook the comment about fresh and flavorful. They make the food when you order and it was very evident that they use fresh ingredients. I hope they bring this concept to Texas as I'm sure it would be a hit.

Yelp
I really don't understand why it's taken me so long to try this Place but it was absolutely awesome and very interesting and unique. So me and my cousin searched and searched for something to eat and she spotted this place and we said let's go for it. We rushed in with only 20min until closing time and the guy Rick was so patient and he made us feel very comfortable considering they were closing in 15 minutes. I tried the Samurai burrito, Sanora taco and also the chicken little taco. Now I'm not a big fan of steam or boiled shrimp but these were great I mean perfectly cooked. The entire meal was so good but yet unlike anything I've ever tried before. I can't remember what my cousin had but she devoured her food. I will most definitely be visiting this place again and hopefully Rick and the other really nice guy with the awesome hair will be there.

Yelp
Only 3 table outside dining during covid. Nice waitress comes out to take your order. Service was pretty fast. Fun twist to sushi in form of taco, burrito, or nacho. Godzilla size fyi isn't that much bigger then regular size. Only bottled water here too. But food was tasty & worth a 2nd try.
