I wanted to love this but I just couldn't. We are sushi fanatics and this just did not cut the mustard. The rice was dry and meal-y. The rolls were small and ridiculously priced for their size. We got the special roll for the evening and it had a really unappetizing texture (HUGE chunks of whole snap pea I think?) and we had to just "Get through" that one - which you shouldn't have to do with a $20 roll. Just really disappointing sushi overall. The seaweed salad and spicy tuna roll were good and the atmosphere is awesome, great service. So, it's a good place to eat - the sushi just isn't very good! Pictured is a $100 dinner (yikes).

Google
Absolutely amazing! I’m not sure what other people are talking about in these negative reviews. Their menu is pricey but well worth it for the food and service we received! We had the Snow Leopard and Hot Blonde sushi rolls and the Seafood Yakisoba. The Snow Leopard was buttery and full flavored while the Hot Blonde was crisp and refreshing. For a starter we got the Shumai, a double spicy pork dumpling. All of it was so good I’m convinced it’s 100% homemade. We also think they might make their own wasabi, which definitely has a kick but is so delicious! A lot of new and interesting flavors that I haven’t experienced ever if not in a long time at any Asian-food place, including their “naan” bread with a Japanese 7 Spice seasoning that was great. To top it off we had Almond Crème Brulee and Strawberry Mochi. Also amazing! All of the Itamae seemed to have worked diligently and were familiar with their craft, it was entertaining to watch them build beautiful dishes. The service was great, and they did amazing with being short staffed. Thank you for a great experience!

Google
Pretty disappointed with my experience at wasabi. I was hopeful, but should know better than to order sushi in Montana. The service was fine, but I ordered a roll that was weird and I did not realize it had dill in it. I took one bite and did not like it at all. When my server came back to ask how everything was, I said, I did not like this, and he simply said I’m sorry. He did not offer to replace it, take it back, take it off the check, that was it. I asked for my check, he brought it to me and asked if I wanted a box for the roll. I said no, I’m not eating that. I still paid for the $22 roll. I’m not a difficult customer, but if your guests TELL YOU they don’t like something and are not going to eat it, some engagement should be done to get them a meal they actually like. Instead of just paying $22 for an empty stomach.

I had immensely enjoyed this restaurant for 15+ years. The service, food, and prices used to all be well beyond expectation. I have vastly traveled and always said my local sushi restaurant was still my favorite. Alas, the era has ended for this place. I wouldn't recommend anyone visit here now. The last three times I have eaten here they were out of tuna. Additionally, they no longer offer the care and service they once did. Our most recent visit we were offered brown cucumber salad and then told by the server that it's because they are using different cucumbers now which are brown. None of the rolls are prepared and served as they used to be and the quality is well reflected by their B+ food safety rating. Do yourself a favor and avoid this restaurant. They no longer care and it is well reflected in the quality of food and service they provide.

Google
Food was quite good, but took an extremely long time to arrive. It's my understanding they are short staffed, but over an hour for 2 small dishes is pushing it - and they still forgot the soup. Portions are small, which is typical for sushi, so I don't hold it negatively. Just a heads up.

Google
Very very very good. But not perfect. The service was 5+ stars. Had a great variety but the freshness of the raw didn’t stand out. The seared and cooked were better choices. Sauces great. And the chocolate fondue was better than perfect.

Google
This is my kids favorite restaurant so they were pretty disappointed in our last outing there last week. The $12 side of noodles was tiny. The service very slow, though I know it’s hard in summer to have enough servers so don’t fault them for that… but the naan came burnt and turned over so we would not notice. When they redid them they came with the check at the end and perhaps they should have comped them (?) but did not. The pad Thai noodles were over cooked as was the rice.. Just not a great experience as in the past. We will give them one more try I guess…

Google
Looking for sushi go to kalispell. Worst experience I’ve had there. I’ve been probably more than 10 times and this was atrocious. Got there at 6, ordered at 6:30 and didn’t get rolls till 8. Was not even busy and came out sloppy, chunky and warm. Waitress didn’t seem to care too much either. Welcome to tourist season.

Yelp
it's been 20 years since we were here and the wonderful food hasn't changed a bit! we were so excited to find that it was still open! we headed there our first night in town. we even brought a photo of a wall wine rack we bought straight off the wall from the owner 20 years ago! we had a wonderful dinner and our server was the best ever! he made great recommendations and was extremely attentive! we had the carpaccio appetizer and the large family style assortment of sushi. everything was fabulous. best I've ever had! we will go back before we head home and will return next time we come to Whitefish.

Taylor S.

Yelp
Not a good experience. Staff seems overwhelmed when trying to seat people with open tables. Waited an hour for food that was inedible - couldn't even cut through wagyu steak? Unfortunately we won't be returning.

Lucy N.

Yelp
This unsuspecting place became an excellent memory on our cross country road trip. My friend had been here many years ago and insisted we came here our first night. I was so unsure when we we walked in the door and saw the multicolored walls and were led to a back room and seated next to a loud air conditioning unit, but let me say the food made up for the atmosphere. Our server was quick and attentive. We ordered the Hamachi Carpaccio and it was unlike anything I've ever had before. The thin layer of fish with the combination of the sauces and seasonings was to die for. This alone made the trip to Wasabi a 5 star experience. Our server was nice enough to recommend various rolls to us, namely the Goonie roll. I NEVER go for fried rolls, but this was absolutely the best pieces of sushi I've ever had... anywhere... ever. The "plum Ketchup" flavor so beautifully complimented the "crab Rangoon" style roll that was ever so lightly fried. Next we tried the OMG it's spicy roll.. and that name is no lie! It was so delicious but oh so spicy. We also tried the big mountain roll for more of a classic flavor. While we were there, we tried a few different sakes and enjoyed those as well. The sushi was so good that we almost came back the second night for an exact repeat. Fair warning that this place is popular and busy, so I recommend calling ahead!

Julie N.

Yelp
This place has really gone down hill. We've been coming here for years, but we're done. There's much better Sushi in Kalispell. We waited 3 hours for our food to arrive. Our server made it pretty obvious that she forgot to put our order in. She was a nervous wreck. As the hours passed, we noticed that part of our dinner sat under a food lamp for 20 minutes while our server waited for the remainder of our order to be completed. We know this because we had a full view of the back kitchen. The rolls were loosely wrapped and lacked in quality and presentation. The icing on the cake was receiving an outrageous bill. I feel bad for the tourist. Again, go to Kalispell. Don't waste your money!

Rob S.

Yelp
Walked in at 8 o'clock, and said they were taking no more walkins even though most of the tables were empty, will never go back here again

Kay S.

Yelp
Super tasty sushi and loved their Tom Kha Gai soup! Couldn't tell if they were understaffed but service seemed slow. And they were out of a few of our selections. But, all said, I think I'd give them another chance when we're back in Whitefish again!

Pam C.

Yelp
Where do I start?.... They do not take reservations on any online platform, so you have to call. I called in May for June reservation. Spoke with a male person, who took my name, phone number, #people and time. We arrive in Whitefish late afternoon after a full day of driving. I did not call to double check on the reservation. My mistake. We walk to restaurant. Of course our reservation was not on their list. We ask if they would be able to seat us if we waited. Yes, so we wait. Seats us at the counter. Alright. I'm ok with that. Service sucked. Waited for edamame for 30 minutes! He said they had to defrost them. Tuna roll tasted like Bonita tuna. Irony and fishy. Sent back. Shrimp tempura roll was cold. Chardonnay was hot. Don't know how this restaurant is supposed to have been in this location for 30 years with this type of service and food. We are only here for one week so would not go back anyway, but would never recommend it to anyone.

David N.

Yelp
Who knew you could get such amazing sushi in this town!! Our server Ashlyn was the sweetest and made great recommendations. Absolutely loved the "OMG roll", Hamachi Carpaccio, Slayer roll, and Tuxedo roll. Their Saki selection was also amazing. Had the saki flight which helped us decide what was our favorite! Yep- we had a bottle. Bring your patience's and good conversation as it gets really busy and food can take a while. Love the mirrors above the sushi chefs- great view of what's being prepared! Can't wait to come back for seconds!!

My Dao N.

Yelp
10/8/21 Recommend? Yes and no. If you're looking for spectacular vegan options then no, this place isn't for you. If you're just looking for something to dine on because well... we all need food? Or all of your dinner friends wants sushi? Yes, please come right on in. I got the veggie spring rolls and the veggie bento box. The waittress was super nice and gave me a peanut sauce for the spring rolls instead of the regular sauce isn't vegan. The spring rolls were nice. Refreshing ingredients. I found the rice in the veggie maki roll was a bit dry, but other than that good serving of veggies in the roll. I personally didn't care for the seasoned tofu or the sauteed veggies, but that's really a personal thing then a they didn't do a good job thing.

Susi B.

Yelp
Sushi was good, but service was horrible. An hour after being seated, we still didn't have any food. Major drama with the wait staff. Our waitress was crying, the table next to us had their check thrown onto their table.... literally thrown to them. Totally unacceptable and unprofessional. Our waitress kept apologizing said she was alone and had an excuse for everything that wasn't right. Sorry to say we probably won't go back. Indah is a better choice.

Robert G.

Yelp
My wife and I had dinner at Wasabi yesterday Evening. The positives were the sushi, drinks and wait staff were great. The not so good was the entree's. I chose the Seafood Yakisoba Noodles which I had a couple of years ago and loved. $38 is a big price for the dish, but remembered it as being well worth it. We waited 45 min. for the main entree and I must say it was not worth the wait or the cost. The Yakisoba noodles were under cooked, so I asked the waitress to have them cooked longer. The waitress ordered a whole new dish, not just the Yakisoba. We waited another 15 min., The new dish arrived and the Yakisoba was under cooked AGAIN. Wow. (as a side note...., I lived in Misawa Japan for three years back in the mid '80's. I love Japanese cuisine. Yakisoba is not a difficult dish to prepare. I did not want to be one of "those" costumers that raises a stink, so we paid and left (and never to return) Sadly Wasabi Sushi bar is not what it once was.

Jeremy N.

Yelp
Service was ok but the sushi rolls were tasteless. Had 3 different rolls with Salmon, Tuna, Fried Crab. Seafood was dry as well as the sushi rice. Wife ordered the $33 Pad Thai with steak. Big misteak.... had way too much SALTY shrimp paste in it and not enough noodles to balance it out. Asked for more lemon to try cut down the saltiness. I am up right now in the middle of the night with DRY MOUTH writing this review. I should have not eaten the rest of the dish and asked for refund. The only thing tasted ok was the 6oz steak. It came out in sliced strips and was cooked medium rare. I ended up giving a $10 tip for a $90 meal that was pretty bad. Hope this restaurant steps there game up the people of Montana deserve better.

Brandon C.

Yelp
this place is way under rated. Try the OMG its spicy roll and the Flank appetizer. this place is a bit smaller in size though it makes up with its food. Also the The night in Missoula tea is fantastic

Tom C.

Yelp
waitress good. took forever to get two rolls . California roll the worst I've ever had. Soup supposed to have veggies and chicken. very little. Won't be eating there anytime soon. will go to Indah Sushi. So much better

Eve M.

Yelp
Although the food was good, the service was horrible. We had a reservation and we were seated in the back where it was at least 10 degrees hotter than the front. Within a few minutes of being seated, our server took our order including a "to go" order. We were provided a cucumber salad and edamame but then did not see our server again for 45 minutes. We finally got our food at the one hour mark but our server did not put the "to go" order in and we were told we had to wait an additional 15 minutes.

Anna M.

Yelp
Stopped by on Valentine's Day for a double date with some friends who are local. We made a reservation ahead of time because we knew it would get busy. The service was excellent with a wide variety of options to choose from. I loved that they have mirrors hanging from the kitchen so that you're able to watch your rolls being made in real-time. The reason for 3 stars is because I found the sushi to be quite overpriced for what they offered. We ended up paying $75 for two people (3 rolls, edamame, and sake split between 4 people) which was steeper than expected. I didn't find the sushi to be unique or extravagant to make up for the price point, which was a little disappointing. We ordered: Montana Roll Going to the sun salmon roll Nessie roll Nice touch that they brought out some chocolate covered strawberries for the occasion free of charge.

Elexa M.

Yelp
Sushi was subpar, not very fresh. The food took forever to come out and they only offer wine/sake/beer so definitely not a good spot if you want sushi and cocktails.

Jodi M.

Yelp
Some of the best sushi I've ever had anywhere. The yellowtail carpaccio is so delicious, the sushi is fresh, and the OMG roll is like nothing I'd ever had. Great sake selection. And the service was fantastic.

Russell J.

Yelp
Worst sashimi I have ever had. Portion size cut wrong to big. it smelled like fish. The octopus was dry. I've been to a hundred sushi places across the country, this one wins the worst title.

Jenny S.

Yelp
The place smelled of weed ... all I could taste in the poorly wrapped tuxedo roll was bacon ... the yakisoba was undercooked and drowning in soy sauce ... and the pad thai was saturated with sriracha. An unfortunate experience.

Annabelle S.

Yelp
Waited a bit too long for mediocre sushi. A fun experience in Whitefish but not super quality.

Haydee W.

Yelp
Their food is so white. I'm shocked it's called Wasabi. Horrible fake food I ordered Tom Kha Gai and it ended up being simple rice soup with no flavor. Worst experience! I never recommend! Stay away!

Richard Y.

Yelp
'Walked in and the cold as ice hostess/owner declared that they were not taking carry out orders due to full reservations-- 'ever chew gum and walk at the same time?

Dee K.

Yelp
The food is delicious, incredibly creative. The service was impeccable. Every time I am in Whitefish, my first choice is always Wasabi! Bravo!

Gigi V.

Yelp
I had high hopes. I was craving Sushi, something different from the usual steak and burger onslaught that you find in every mountain town, so we decided on this place. My husband was skeptical, we've had a lot of bad sushi lately in ski towns, unfortunately this was no different. We ordered the Hamachi carpaccio/tartare? It was smashed fish with a heavy, sweet sauce with so much salt and sweetness it was inedible. Then we had the shrimp tempura Oh My Wild something roll, GROSS. The shrimp taste was off, iodine tasting which means it's old. The spicy tuna roll, a staple in EVERY sushi restaurant was mushy and just awful. The only thing we had that was delicious was the miso soup. The draft beer was warm, and the service took a while. I can't recommend this place honestly, I wish I could but when you have three big time misses, and you leave hungry after spending $140, that's not a great experience.

Conor R.

Yelp
Wasabi was good, not bad and not great. The best thing, by far, was their scallop appetizer and it should not be missed. They have a smoke trout that is extremely heavy and not the best served as sushi. It's smoked after all and would be better on a cracker with anything other than soy on vinegar rice. Thinking more about it, it may have been a little miscommunication when choosing & order placing. As sushi is one of our top 3 foods, I doubt we could have ordered wrongly, but we probably did. We will certainly give it another try the next time in town and I presume the rating will do nothing but improve. BTW... Whitefish is a lovely spot and if you've not been, put it on your "to do/go" list for sure. Cheers...

April J.

Yelp
The sushi was spendy which I don't mind , but the quality of the rolls were not like they should be. I felt I was getting my rolls from the grocery store sushi bar. . I don't recommend wasabi in white fish . I was very disappointed

Matt R.

Yelp
The fact that this place is routinely voted best sushi in the valley is so incredibly depressing. They're trying way too hard, charging way too much, and executing very poorly. They don't even have a simple Tuna roll on the menu. I want fresh raw fish, rice, & seaweed when I eat sushi. Wasabi will give you everything but that very thing, and they'll charge more than a fine dining steak house. Sushi is my favorite food in the world, and I have a genuine anger inside of me towards the two sushi restaurants in town.

Eugenie G.

Yelp
I do not know much about Sushi- but I realized how much I love it from our visit to Wasabi. The experience was really fun- we drank and learned about Sake- amazing! Loved the sushi special, spicy hot and full of flavor. Everything we had was fresh and delicious. We completed our meal with Huckleberry Ice Cream. Refreshing. Yes, we will be back. Addendum- we did return and I have a new favorite. "OMG it's spicy". Best Sushi roll ever. Love the mild heat and the crunch.

Mark W.

Yelp
We love Wasabi and come here every time we're in the area. I give it 4 stars because they claim 'affordable sushi'. 4 full rolls and a couple of drinks is going to be almost $100 with the tip. The good: The sushi! I do love their take on spicy and sometimes citrus-ee rolls. They always have a kick and don't taste like rolls gotten anywhere else. The staff were attentive and rocked it a bit to open up for a few of us who were sitting outside waiting. They also asked everyone who called if they were there to celebrate something. Our anniversary got us sprinkles on the table, but no dessert :) We've had experiences in the past when Wasabi staff just couldn't keep up and rolls took forever to arrive. While this last visit wasn't too fast, given that we put in the first order... it didn't take forever. If you love sushi with a kick, this IS the place to go in Whitefish, MT.

Jerry B.

Yelp
Great food, great service, fun. We came here because our river raft guide said it was the best sushi in Montana. Since this is the only sushi I have had in Montana I don't feel qualified to say that, but I would say it was excellent. They had local fish, smoked or cured, and all the normal hits. We loved the rolls, the appetizers, and the drinks. We were truly impressed.

Kari K.

Yelp
Everything was fine. Completely fine. The fish was fresh, and the food looks attractive....but spendy for what you get. Even the California rolls were $12, and the Phil roll that I ordered was blasé in the flavor department. I also tried the shrimp cocktail as pictured. That was better, but the wasabi guacamole was not wasabi...I don't know if everything was so mild due to local tastes, but there you go. A bit overpriced for what you get in general, but probably the best sushi option in the flathead valley.

Fallon H.

Yelp
Not impressed. Service was sub par, at best. Sushi was not great at all and over priced for what it was. Do yourself a favor and go eat Abruzzos or The Boat House...or anywhere else for that matter.

Frankie W.

Yelp
My friends and I had dinner at Wasabi on a busy Wednesday night. We all thought the food was fresh and delicious. The chef has come up with some interesting flavor combinations which work very well. The sake and beer selection is also excellent. The service was friendly, warm and prompt. Overall we had a wonderful, delightful and yummy experience at Wasabi.

Kate C.

Yelp
Really tasty sushi in Whitefish just half an hour away from Glacier National Park. Really friendly service and they easily accommodated my daughter's dairy and egg allergy. We were able to get in and out quickly and explore shops nearby downtown in their convenient location. Great wine selection to pair well with sushi. Not just the generic options but well thought out including gruner veltliner, dry Riesling, and Albariño.

Kate P.

Yelp
Was very intrigued to try this place after driving past it a number of times and decided to stop in one night. Small joint with louder music makes it kinda hard to hear the person across the table from you, but I guess that's kinda part of the ambience. I was surprised to see the prices when looking at the menu, $16 for a spicy tuna roll seemed a little steep but I figured it would either be huge or amazing. Unfortunately for us, all of the sushi we ordered was neither. Very basic, nothing special rolls that seem very overpriced. Waitress was very nice and the hot towels before the meal were a nice touch, but I wouldn't waste my time coming back here again.

Doug H.

Yelp
Decent quality of fish and prep/presentation for Montana. But long wait in dining room due to prioritizing take-out orders. Waiting over an hour for sushi I amending this review. Sushi is actually very excellent and because our order was soooo late, they comped our beverages. Good catch, guys!

Charles N.

Yelp
We had a wonderful experience at Wasabi Sushi Bar. The food was excellent and the service friendly, prompt and helpful!

Roy K.

Yelp
Decent sushi rude folks. Picked up food on a rainy day and the lady who brought didn't say thank you for the order for this over priced rolls. Wish I knew there are other joints in town while visiting here.

Holley P.

Yelp
Worst sushi we've ever had and damn, it was very expensive. Fish was not fresh and they try to cover over things with tons of spice, jalapeño etc. The place is very old (hello wavy, lopsided floor) and disgusting. It is not clean at all. Want to see something scary? Look at the floors, especially in the kitchen. At least we didn't get sick! Won't ever go back (we're local). Service was great though

Natalie Marie R.

Yelp
Service was good. The food was ok. Not bad but not great. Pretty bland, especially for how expensive it was.

Brian C.

Yelp
New in town and maybe it's not fair to compare Wasabi with good sushi joints from a good sushi part of the country. Compared to sushi joints I would frequent often... Wasabi's atmosphere and facility was definitely shy for a nice date night. The sushi was decent, but not impressive. The prices were a little high for what it was. I'm perfectly okay with the prices, but the sushi and the atmosphere should be stellar. Going to try out Blue Samurai tonight so wish us luck :)

Jessica F.

Yelp
Best sushi in the flathead! They'll make rice free rolls if you're low carb. Friendly staff, the food is always fresh and fantastic. Small place, recommend making a reservation because the line will be out the door.

Alexandra D.

Yelp
Good sushi - especially for Montana. The rolls are a little smaller than I'd hope for the price but you can't forget it's whitefish and we're not in a coastal state. Sushi rolls are tasty and there is a wide variety to choose from so everyone can be happy. They provide warm, scented towels to wash your hands before a meal which I'm sure most people appreciate. They also give you a small bit of cucumber salad when they bring out your plate of ginger and wasabi - yum! Make sure you go during their first hour or so of opening or grab yourself a reservation - this place seems to fill up fast.

Joe D.

Yelp
They don't want sushi snobs. And if you're a sushi snob there's a good chance you won't like this place. Mediocre at best. I'll let the images do the talking.

Denise S.

Yelp
My friends and I all had Sushi here a few weeks ago while we were on vacation. The foods was awesome and the service was great. I especially liked the pounded Hamachi. I would definitely come back if we are ever in White Fish again.

Ali L.

Yelp
Pretty good avocado rolls and edamame! Great location right in town. Everyone who worked there was very sweet and welcoming. Parking might be tricky at times, but we were able to find a close parking spot.

Conner J.

Yelp
I would say this is as good as it gets for a sushi place that is no where near the sea. They had a lot of great unique pieces but the price was a bit more than I usually get for sushi (though I live near the sea so take that with a grain of salt). The staff is quick and friendly and it is cool to be able to see the chefs from the mirror showing them from above. If you want sushi in Montana, I would check this place out.

Julie R.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. Every time I visit whitefish this restaurant is a must eat. The fish always taste so fresh and there are many amazing combinations to choose from. Waiters are also very friendly as well. Would recommend a reservation

Amanda M.

Yelp
Love this spot! They've been doing a great job with seating and social distancing. I recommend making a reservation or you'll be waiting a bit. The food is good and I'll be returning often.
