We enjoyed ourselves at Wasai! The staff is top-notch. Fiorella at the hotel is super helpful and sweet. At the lodge: Julie is accommodating and helpful; Maria is an incredible chef who dished up inventive and delicious meals. Jair, our guide, was great at spotting wildlife and is incredibly knowledgeable. There wasn’t a question he couldn’t answer in depth. Plus, he speaks excellent English and has a great sense of humor! Both places were very beautiful as well, using local materials in the cabins and furniture. Only issue I had was there was no hot water at either the hotel or lodge.

I've been twice at this hotel. The first time I got a big room with a view and the second time I got a simple small room as it was a one night stay. Within the rooms I'd say the need to improve the bathrooms, however they function properly and have hot water. The hotel is not accessible, no wheelchair friendly. There are a lot of stairs to be able to move inside the lodge. However, the views and experience is comforting because of the jungle-like set up. The wifi signal is really poor, but I think it is a general thing in Puerto Maldonado. That said, I do have to say that Diego one for the staff members during my last stay made sure I had a 5 star experience. There were some issues with the air conditioner and some river worm over the door (common in this location), the air conditioner got fixed in a timely manner and Diego also had the room cleaned again, sheets changed and everything. He also went and took the river worm out, so he was amazing. The Staff is usually super friendly and attentive during our stay. It's not wheelchair accessible, however if you do have mobility issues you can talk to the desk and they'll accommodate you in one of the suites next to the main building.

Everything was really disappointing unfortunately. When arriving at the first hotel in Puerto Maldonado, we were asked to wait for 5 hours so that other people who are coming with different flights could join us for the bus and boat journey to Tambopata. This was not discussed at all. Even when we wanted to leave a bit early on the check-out date, we were told it was impossible as they didn’t want to allocate a boat and a bus service for just us. We were told to pay additional $150 to request such service. (Early pick up service was initially promised but they switched their words later) Therefore we had to give up our last day of stay + dinner so that we could come back to the town a day earlier. The food during stay was super bland and the none of the service that was promised (locally brewn beer) was provided. Whole experience felt much less of a value than what we had paid for and more of a scam.

A great place to stay after doing one of the tours, a swimming pool with bar overlooking the river, the room was tidy and quiet

In it's hayday It must have been a convenient place sitting on the river right in the middle of Puerto Maldonado. If you have to stay in town and you're not going to one of the River lodges right away or coming back from them, it's probably as good as you're going to do.

Pros Hotel has nice buildings, and you feel like you are in the Amazon. Pool area is also nice. Staff are nice, very clean room. Close to the town with restaurants etc. Great view of the river, and there are resident sloths in the trees that was amazing to see! Rooms are a bit shabby. Had the potential to be really good. Cons There are NO mosquito nets around the beds, the staff give you incense sticks if you are ask, but we were still bitten over 40 times (with using cream insect repellents). We didn't open any windows when were there either. I don't know why somewhere on the Amazon wouldn't have nets. The area can have mosquito diseases, so didn't feel safe, and I'm scratching a lot!! This reason alone I probably wouldn't stay again or recommend. Water pressure terrible in room, better in pool shower. Also either so hot or cold. Also there are 3 clubs around hotel so it can be quite loud at night. Pool area, we had to ask for the pool to be cleaned had a lot of dead flies etc in it, the next day we saw someone cleaning it at 1pm, surely should be first thing in the morning. WiFi is pretty terrible, quite hard to really do anything.

Stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting the rainforest. ||Nice welcome at reception on arrival & staff took us down to our Riverside room.||Room very clean & spacious. Room had a fridge which was very appreciated. No safe in the room so we had to take all our valuables out with us. We should have checked this prior to booking but it didn't spoil the enjoyment of the visit. Patio door didn't lock onto the balcony so we had to improvise. Would've been nice to have a couple of chairs on our balcony as we weren't able to get a bed/chair around the pool.||Nice pool area with its own bar. Only 5 sunbeds around the pool & 3 tables so availability is lacking. Yesterday a couple left their towels on the sunbeds & went for lunch for 2 hours. Given the low number of sunbeds this was not appropriate & selfish of the couple. ||Lots of steps around the hotel so not for anyone with mobility difficulties.||Overall a nice stay for the 2 days.||Stayed in room 201.

Basic hotel close to the centre. Lots of steps to rooms. Staff were friendly. Unfortunately we did not sleep all night due to a nearby bar/nightclub blasting loud music all night, it did not stop until the sun started to rise. I had earplugs in and I could still hear the music clearly! It was that loud. I would not recommend this hotel for that reason. Glad we only stayed one night.
