Washington Square Village

It is a nice area and very safe to live in and the doormen are awesome but I’m giving the complex two stars for the following: the apartment wasn’t clean when we moved in. We had several issues with maintenance (for example our AC filter light turned on and we called maintenance and the guy who came just turned the button off instead of actually cleaning or replacing the filter ??? So we ended up cleaning it ourselves and I’m pretty sure there was mold on the AC). Also there was heavy construction (ie they were drilling into the walls of the apartments next to us) pretty much half of the year that is still ongoing and very loud and inconvenient. Last week a pipe burst in our bathroom (due to the building construction :D) and flooded our apartment and now the floors are starting to mold :) so we had to move out half a month early and they still want the full months rent. So anyways, I don’t recommend living here, especially not if you’re paying full price.

The apartments were surprisingly bigger than I had essentially thought and had plenty of storage as well as a balcony. Unfortunately some of my problems were with the doormen consistently accusing me and my roommate of not living there. Mice running around the basement laundry area and the mailing room is a disaster. If there isn't anyone in the mailing room, packages will get refused and shipped back. I had so many problems with companies I order from you have told me my packages were refused and shipped back.

Great living arrangements for NYC faculty! Pretty sweet arrangement to get semi-subsidized housing as a perk of working at the University. If you are considering living here, make sure you negotiate for an apartment with a balcony!
