Absolutely loved visiting! It was recommended that we start at the top and work our way down, and I'm so glad we followed that suggestion. It was definitely hot on the 7th floor, but the artwork displayed during our visit was perfect for the temperature! Working or way down, we were delighted to find surprises on every floor. The building is unique and the installations very professional. Overall, it was a great way to spend an afternoon and we can't wait to go back!

This was a fun side trip today. This little gem is tucked in a cute little town along side a rails to trails greenway. There are multiple floors of interesting art displayed by various artists. The view from the levels with windows is quite lovely.

I can guarantee this art exhibit is unlike any you've ever viewed before! There was a wide variety of art on display. The building is very unique, and leads to a great view of the surrounding town. I'm unsure if there was an elevator available, so i would keep that in mind if the seven flights of stairs may be a concern. I visited in the winter and def took my time walking in the historic building (a little over an hour). It can get chilly inside, so make sure you're dressed accordingly!

We didn’t expect to find so much interesting artists in the old mill. Great place. We will come again soon to see more soon. Don’t miss the ‘Dog Show’ by Stephen Morrison on the to floor.

Local art project and artist's residence in Dutchess County. Our visit was on the closing day of the current show. Open studios, artist talks and fabulous expressions. A true gem!

Energetic and innovative artistry across the mediums of sculpture, choreography, music, cinematography and illustration. Artwork exhibited in former barn for livestock, which is refreshingly authentic to the surrounding rural area. Lovely views of the hamlet from Maxon Mill's topmost chamber. Some may find the Project's political messaging objectionable.

Yelp
I agree with Sarah wholeheartedly.... I visited the Wasssaic Project and found it awesome for new artists and exploration of new ideas. I live in the town of Wassaic about 3 miles from the Wassaic Project and am so proud of what they have done. FYI. The Lantern as every local knows has the best pizza you can find outside of NYC and their bartenders are terrific. We also have a fabulous new bakery, called Vitsky Bakery, a few doors down from The Lantern. Ten Mile Distillery is in Wassaic and has excellent views, drinks and food.

Yelp
I'm surprised there are no prior reviews. It takes place annually, in the hamlet of Wassiac near the town of Amenia. It's a year round artists colony. Many are avant garde. Thought provoct There's a MetroNorth station within walking distance; using a GPS in the car is a little confusing. Street parking is limited. Across the tracks there is a parking lot with a $20 charge. During the festival. The main gallery is in an old granary. Their 7th floor is equivalent to a 10 story high-rise. There isn't an elevator. Wear sensible shoes. Food - near the main building are snacks. Up the road, by the green building are vendors and wine. Cash only. $$. Across the tracks is The Lantern; a quaint bar/restaurant. Their menu is limited to pizza, buffalo wings and a couple other items. The Bar has imported beers, wines and other beverages. There's a pool table. Odd that they allow children in the bar area. If you decide to visit the entire museum it is a climb up stairs; be prepared. There's no elevator.

Yelp
Don't be swayed by Bob's 2 star review. This project has had a profound impact on the town. They have saved an important piece of architecture and created all sorts of programming, most of which is free. Modern art might not be for everyone, but my husband and I are not alone in feeling immense gratitude for the efforts and the offerings of the Wassaic Project. Check out their website, it always has up to date info about what they have going on.
