We stumbled across this gem while traveling down the coast from our visit to Acadia National Park. My husband has a weakness for hotdogs so even though we’d had a hearty breakfast, we made the room to stop for a good ol’ fashioned wiener. Because we are Millennial/Gen Z cusp babies, we rarely carry cash, so we were scared we might lose our opportunity for this American classic when we saw it was cash-only. Thankfully, there were two ATMs in the parking lot and we were able to withdraw a crisp $20 to try a few of the items here. As we approached the stand, we were delighted to see the setup of the interior. One worker manning a grill and handling the drive-thru orders, and one worker manning a grill for the walk-up orders. Each grill was plentiful with hot dogs approaching the perfect char and the smell carried outside of the stand awakened the taste buds. The lovely young woman running the walk-up side was friendly and prompt, giving us our order at practically the same time she passed us our change. We ordered a plain cheeseburger, one wiener with ketchup, one Chili Cheese dog, and one Western Dog to sample a few different options! The Chili Cheese Dog was that classic flavor with the perfect balance of flavors and enough of each ingredient to have a perfect bite every time without getting messy. The Western Dog was a unique mix of flavors outside of the standard, but still simple enough to appeal to my picky husband, who typically prefers his wiener with ketchup only. We were very pleased with our visit and glad that our time driving through coincided with their limited hours. Quick, great service, great food, and great prices! It’s just too bad that we don’t have one of these back home. Sometimes, you just need a hot dog to do the trick!

Always visit when on vacation. A must stop daily for lunch! Can never get enough. By far the best hot dogs in the world. Everything tastes perfect. Cooked in peanut oil with onions. Steamed buns. Some French fries. I'm thinking about driving 4 hours for lunch! Can't wait to go back! And the people working, kudos to them! Super hard working and never screw up my orders.

Google
The best sauerkraut dogs! The service is great too! We look forward to visiting any time we are Rockland or Belfast! (And the Bee Dog is a yummy treat!)

Driving back down to Portland after visiting Acadia National Park, I got hungry on the road and looked for a quick bite to eat. When I opened up my maps, I saw this hotdog stand and was intrigued by all of the positive reviews. Located in a parking lot, it was nothing spectacular from its appearance, but the service was extremely fast and friendly, and the hotdog was surprisingly delicious. I ordered an everything dog which came with grilled onions, mustard, and relish on what I am assuming is a unique Maine-style bun (aka not a typical hot dog bun I am used to). The price was fair and the hotdog was ample. After my first bite, I knew why people enjoyed these hot dogs so much. Nothing fancy, but just a good classic hotdog.

Google
A great convergence of quality and price, along with nice service. Cash only establishment but tax is built into the price which more businesses should do. Recommend a visit if you're in the area and don't have a peanut allergy.

Stopped on a whim for a road trip snack. Never mind a cash only place when it keeps prices low! There’s an ATM in the same parking lot if you need. Amazing food and service. Sauerkraut and cheese sauce were both 10/10

Google
The BEST hot dogs and two people can have lunch for $15!! My wife gets mustard and raw onions...pretty basic. I get them with everything, which is sauces onions, mustard, and relish. You can choose spicy relish or plain. I like the spicy. Not too hot, but has a kick. Our favorite quick lunch! We go to all three locations...Belfast, Thomaston , and Rockland. Belfast has a large lot to park and eat or picnic tables to sit at.

I had a chili cheese dog and it was delicious, lots of flavor. The ladies in the shop were super nice and we welcoming. Recommend for any people that love hot dogs

Yelp
If hot dogs were better for me I would be here once per week. This is the hot dog gold standard for me. You know the hot dogs are good when you are at a nearby highly rated lobster pound for lunch and over hear residents from a retirement community who have been bussed in for lunch cheering that the next stop will be Wasses. Apparently in their minds hot dogs beat out lobster rolls. That was 8 years ago and I have been coming to Wasses ever since. Hot dogs are grilled and the buns are steamed making a perfect combination. The hotdogs themselves are on the small side, which I like because I can get two and mix up the toppings. But alas, I never mix up the toppings, it is straight mustard and relish for me . The hotdog stand is in the Reny's Plaza so you can have a twofer of a great time. There are a couple of picnic tables but most people grab their dogs and eat in the car. No gluten free options here and it is cash only. Don't despair if you see a long line as it will move quickly.

Yelp
The food was out of sight. This hot dog stand was worth the trip to Maine. Stopped for lunch and have thought about it ever since. Do yourself a favor and stop and get yourself a hot dog.

Yelp
When you're a little hungry & you spy a huge line for food someplace, you have to stop! Their dogs are in a steamed, fluffy soft bun. Not huge, & simple. Both the drive thru & walk up lines were busy & yet moved pretty fast. Though some older pics here show fries, they weren't on the current menu. But they did have bags of chips, & brownies & cookies. Cash only!

Yelp
Hot dog was cooked well. Didn't get grilled onions but they also were nicely browned. Tried the kraut dog with mustard - could use more mustard as you just get one strip down the center. The kraut was regular from a can or bag, but drained very nicely. The best part was the bun; like a cross between a hot dog bun and a slice of white bread...definitely didn't feel like there was too much bread to dog ratio. Just wish the bread was toasted and it would have been really great bread!

Yelp
Great Maine style dogs with snap in classic drive thru settings. I always get mustard, kraut, onions and relish -- the bun is steamed and so it melts in your mouth giving way to an above average hot dog experience. Wasses is solid and has become a summertime ritual.

Yelp
Drove by this drive up hot dog window. Thought it sounded good. It was very good! I had the Kraut dog with onions and mustard. My husband had chili cheese dog. Both very tasty. The chili was more like a rich sauce. Tasty. They use white sandwich bread as the bun. Just like when I was a kid LOL. Except these buns were specially made. White bread shaped like a hotdog bun. The hot dogs came out about three minutes after we ordered them. They also have hamburgers and cheeseburgers. Small one quarter pound ones. The hotdog was about five bites but it was delicious. If you're driving around or through Belfast check out. Wasses Hot dog drive-through. I suggest you get two :)

Yelp
I was on the way from bar harbor to Portland and was debating where to get lunch and I was turning into the next road google maps told me to take when I spotted this gem and it just spoke straight to my soul. There were also like 5 cars lined up and some solid yelp reviews which were confirmation that I must eat there. I love hot dogs but will readily admit they are not necessarily a delicious food but these hot dogs were actually delicious. I tried the bacon, kraut, and also the plain. I personally don't love sauerkraut(confirmed after trying) but felt like it was part of the experience so I had to get it. The hot dog buns were also really good. It was like a normal bun except the sides were shaved off and it somehow made it more delicious! It's cash only and the prices are like $3-4 each. Other reviews mentioned fries but there were not fries. They do have a picnic table but we just ate in the car since it was a drive thru!

Yelp
Is Wassas under new management because for the first time in years I got a hotdog it wasn't up to their standards. And did not see the girls there either. Cuffy phair@gmail.com please let me know as I go to Belfast quite frequently and normally enjoy the hot dog.

Yelp
Saw this hot dog truck just after taking the exit and I love a good hot dog so we stopped for lunch. Hubby & I both got chili dogs with everything and they definitely hit the spot. They saute the onions here and put all the condiments on the hot dog before topping with chili and the steamed New England bun was so fresh my napkin got stuck to it. Paid $9.25 for 2 chili dogs, can of soda & bag of chips which is a great deal for a good quality hot dog generously topped with homemade chili, I can see why they've sold over 5 million hot dogs. There's plenty of parking and picnic tables outside plus they even have s drive thru, definitely glad we stopped.

Yelp
The Rockland location is just a stand in a parking lot, which doesn't do justice to the amazing hot dog experience that awaits. If the scent of grilled onions doesn't lure you in, maybe the smell of freshly grilled hot dogs will do the trick. The top split buns are steamed to perfection and snugly hold a crispy grilled dog. They'll put anything on it you want - kraut, onions, bacon, chili, various condiments. The hot dogs are snappy and nicely hot with whatever toppings you need. The fries are the crinkle cut kind perfectly crisp and hot. They also have chips and drinks. The line is long around lunchtime or the peak of tourist season, but it actually moves pretty quickly. All they have to do is dress your dog and pass it out the window, so it's a fast stop even if there are 10 people in front. Cash only, no credit cards, so be ready. Never miss a chance to grab a dog at Wasses!

Yelp
Finally made it to Wasses Hotdogs and I was not disappointed. I ordered two Kraut Dogs.there is nothing better than a hotdog dressed in mustard, relish, ketchup and Kraut nestled in a fresh steamed hotdog bun.

Yelp
Visited Wasses Hot Dogs per my friend's recommendation. She was not wrong about her recommendation. I got 2 hotdogs, one sauerkraut and one bacon hotdog, and an order of fries. They were simple yet very good hot dogs snuggled between a warm Maine hot dog bun topped off with all the fixings. The fries were warm and nicely seasoned. At less than $8 for all, it's simply a bang for your buck. Will definitely return. *Cash only btw*

Yelp
6/21/19 - Belfast Wasses has NOT closed down. We just left there. I love Wasses. Friendly people, great hot dogs.

Nicole B.

Yelp
A co-worker in Maine suggested stopping here for the hot dogs. I am not sure if this is the location we stopped at or not but hot dogs sure look the same. Great price and nice and fast. We were able to eat at the picnic table outside. The hot dogs are cooked in oil. I got fried onions, xmustard and kraut. We wanted to stop back again on the way home but they were not open on Sundays. If I pass by one of the Wasses again I would be sure to stop for a snack!

Yelp
Awesome hot dogs and cheese fries with the bonus of strawberry and chocolate milk options to soda! Great quick toad eats with super friendly staff!
google avatar

Kyle W.

Yelp
Wasses grills their dogs and finishes them off with fried onions and a bunch of other toppings. The bun is the standard Maine hot dog bun, slightly warmed. Their cheeseburgers with grilled onions tastes great together!

James W.

Yelp
Great little hot dog place. Got two dogs with ketchup mustard and grilled onions. The dogs had a nice snap. It's in the same mall as Reny's.

Irene M.

Yelp
When you want a good fresh greasy burger this is the best! Had my fix today! Best hotdogs, too. You can customize it with onions, condiments, chili, hot realism, cheese, whatever you want. Has a drive thru. Menu is small and simple.

Kim K.

Yelp
One of the best hotdogs I've had in a long time! Got one with kraut (awesome!) and one with everything (mustard, relish, grilled onions... the onions were chopped and grilled along with the dogs. Delicious!) Window service was quick and around $5 bucks for 2 dogs you can't beat that. *Cash only!

Sally B.

Yelp
I flat-out love Wasses hot dogs. Funny, I told them the other day that I'm practically a vegan but that I have to get my wasses fix every so often -- and the nice lady behind the window said, "I hear that a lot." Thank heaven I live in Belfast, and can visit as often as I want. Except today which is Sunday. And I have a craving. Dang.

Laurie R.

Yelp
Great simple hot dog with all the trimmings. Very friendly and pet friendly too with dog biscuits. A great change of pace.
