Wat Inthakhin Sadue Muang (วัดอินทขีลสะดือเมือง) is a small but historically important temple in Chiang Mai’s Old City, often called the “Navel of the City.” According to multiple sources, this was the original site of Chiang Mai’s city pillar (Inthakhin / Lak Mueang) when King Mangrai founded Chiang Mai in 1296, before the pillar was later moved to Wat Chedi Luang in 1800.
Today it’s a calm, less-crowded stop with beautiful Lanna-style architecture and a very local atmosphere—great if you want something quieter than the main tourist temples, yet still deeply connected to Chiang Mai’s history.
