If you’re into meditation and Buddhist teachings, this is a must-visit. Even if not, it’s a nice spot to stop by for a few minutes, admire the unique atmosphere, and make a wish. A peaceful and meaningful experience!

It is one of the smaller temples in the middle of the city, but still a bucket list item for the muffied monk. The temple is off the man road and quite easy to get to, and the monks are very welcoming and encouraged us to go look at the monk. There are some additional statues to see down the back on the left, as well as the school for which they are raising funds for.

Wat Khunaram may be a small temple with simple architecture, but its significance is profound. The preserved body of the monk Luang Pho Daeng, in a meditative pose, is awe-inspiring and offers insight into Buddhist beliefs on meditation and spirituality. The atmosphere is quiet and respectful, making it a unique spot for reflection. Additionally, behind the temple lies a conservation project for elephants, which was an unexpected bonus! Learning about the monk’s life and mission added so much meaning to the visit. It’s truly a hidden gem for those interested in cultural history.

Wat Khunaram on Ko Samui is renowned for housing the mummified remains of Luang Pho Daeng, a revered monk who passed away in 1973. His body, remarkably preserved, is displayed in a glass casket, serving as a poignant reminder of Buddhist teachings on the transience of life. Visitors can experience the temple's serene atmosphere, participate in traditional fortune-telling, and appreciate its simple yet elegant architecture. While not as grand as other temples, Wat Khunaram offers a unique glimpse into Thai spirituality and the acceptance of death as part of the cycle of life. . . . #WatKhunaram #KohSamui #Thailand #BuddhistTemple #MummifiedMonk #LuangPhoDaeng #SpiritualTourism #UniquePlaces #OffTheBeatenPath #TranquilitySeekers #CultureTrip #TempleVisit #AsiaTravel #TravelInspo #TravelPhotography #SoloTravel #FamilyTravel #FortuneTelling #BuddhistTeachings #DeathAcceptance #LifeCycle

Literally does what it says on the tin. And that's all it does. A preserved monk. 15min visit...20 at a stretch...a good stop in on the way somewhere else . Apparently he didn't decompose naturally and that's why his family decided to place him here.

Wat Kunaram in Koh Samui is a fascinating temple where you can see a mummified monk sitting in a meditating position. It’s a unique and interesting place to visit. There is free parking available, and the temple itself is quite beautiful. The monk, dressed in orange robes and wearing glasses, can be viewed up close. Many visitors bring glasses as a gesture of good luck. Additionally, you can make a donation by placing coins for your favorite days of the week to support the temple.

An okay temple to visit especially because of the mummified monk sitting inside a glass cage wearing sunglasses. The temple itself is not that big but I still think this place is worth a visit if you are in Samui. The dogs here were pretty friendly so I would say it’s an ok safe place to bring your kids also. Beware that the mummified monk might seem a bit scary for smaller kids

This temple is definitely not for the faint-hearted people. There is an actual mummified monk here with sunglasses on. It is quite creepy to see, but in the same time incredible how they kept the skeleton in such a great shape for so many years. The skull even still has hair on it. Entrance is for free, just make sure to dress appropriate for the temple visit.
