Wat Khunaram (Phra Wihan Luang Pho Daeng)

.THE MUMMIFIED MONK ​PHRAKHRUSAMATHAKITTIKHUN ​(DANG PIYASILO) ​1894 - 1973 ​This is the undecomposed remains of Phrakhrusamathakittikhun (Dang Piyasilo) the venerable ex-abbot of Wat Kunaram, Koh Samui. ​He enjoyed a prosperous family life until he was 50 years old and decided to devote the after part of his life in the monkhood. ​After being ordained in 1944, he became renowned for his meditation practice and for about 20 years he had many disciples among Buddhist monks and laymen. He was also known for his ability to foresee his own death that happened in 1973. ​When he was 79 years and 8 months .

Took a private ride from cruise ship. This was stop 2/5 for the day and glad we did. We had from 11:15 - 16:00 for our adventures and this fit nicely. Free admittance with donations accepted of course. No special clothing for males. Females have shoulders covered. The small, yet informative temple is absolutely worth the ~ 15 minute visit. See the “mummified monk” which is truly a wonder to behold. Quick walk around temple and grounds and you are ready for #3. Absolutely worth the quick stop if into history, religion, Buddhism.

This is one of the best Thai temples all of all that I have seen. Inside has reliefs of the key moments in the Buddha's life, with so much detail. The craftsmanship is amazing, inside and out.

Very religious temple with great history behind it. If you have a guide, they can tell you how to do the ceremony and accept the monks blessing.

Wat Khunaram is a unique and peaceful temple with the famous mummified monk on display. It’s interesting to see and a great spot to learn about Buddhist culture. The temple grounds are calm and beautiful, making it a nice place for some quiet reflection while visiting Koh Samui

It's a small temple, however there is a mummified monk in there. Also you can be blessed by a present monk.

It was an awe-inspiring place. How a body that was never treated or preserved could remain intact without decomposing in such a way is truly remarkable. It was a spiritual experience that inspires deep reflection and contemplation
