19 Best Things to Do in Bangkok

"The main draw at Wat Pho is the country’s largest reclining Buddha, a 150-foot long sculpture occupying nearly every inch of the building and leaving guests to observe its gold-plated form from all angles. Beyond the Buddha, an expansive compound has the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand. The complex was Thailand’s first center for public education; people came to study its 1,360 marble inscriptions to learn about medicine, history, and liberal arts." - Diana Hubbell, Katie Lockhart

The 22 Best Things to Do in Bangkok (Updated 2025)

"Known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, I’m struck by its massive golden statue (15 meters tall and 46 meters long) and the fact that the temple occupies a city-block-sized site crammed with reliefs, statues, courtyards, temples, and spires; it also houses the prestigious Thai Traditional Medical and Massage School, so I always arrive early or late to avoid the typical 45-minute waits for a massage. Admission is 200 THB and massages are about 300 THB for 30 minutes; it’s open daily 8am–6:30pm." - Matthew Kepnes

I recently visited Wat Pho in Bangkok, and it was a truly memorable experience. The temple is not only one of the most iconic landmarks in the city but also a place filled with peace, culture, and history. The highlight of my visit was, of course, the magnificent Reclining Buddha, it’s absolutely breathtaking and larger than I had imagined. The temple complex is beautifully maintained with stunning architecture, intricate details, and serene courtyards that make you feel calm as you walk around. I also appreciated how organized everything was for visitors, making the experience smooth and enjoyable. It’s definitely a must-visit spot in Bangkok for anyone interested in culture, history, or simply looking to experience something truly unique.

The Reclining Buddha is a lot bigger than I imagined. The front portion is golden, and the bottom of the feet have intricate tiles with mother-of-pearl. There are tons of tourists, but there are sections where you can go further to take a better picture. Mini shrines are throughout the building. There are other buildings on the grounds that contain various other golden Buddhas as well as a section that shows a traditional apothecary. One building has A.C., so my husband and I made a quick stop there to cool off. Worth the visit!

So beautiful Buddhist temple complex where you need to spend at least 2h to enjoy everything. It’s not only famous the huge statue of the Reclining Buddha but many other spots. I advise to come early morning since it’s not too hot and less people. There are fountains with free drinking water, free toilets. You can have a rest in the shadow if you are tired of sun to continue explore the place. Additionally it’s a place where was born a real Thai massage so you have opportunity to get it there. I advise 1h massage with oil to get deep tissue massage, and don’t forget to ask the blanket since air conditioner is too strong. You can buy ticket only by cash.

One of Bangkok’s true highlights. Wat Pho is home to the magnificent Reclining Buddha—absolutely massive and genuinely awe-inspiring in person. Beyond the headline attraction, the temple complex is peaceful, beautifully maintained, and rich in history. The intricate architecture and serene courtyards offer a welcome contrast to the bustle of the city just outside. It’s less crowded than the Grand Palace and feels more authentic. Modest dress is required, and there’s a small entrance fee, but it’s well worth it. Give yourself time to wander—it’s more than just a photo stop.

This is one of the famous and most visited temple in Bangkok Thailand. When I was there no a lot of tourists but I do like it because I can enjoy the place without having too much people. I was so amazed by the design on how the architect did the concept and designing this incredible structure that can stay up today. I adore how people respect their religious beliefs. And also I admire how they took care of the place. Every time I visited Thailand I always visit this temple.

A Cultural Gem You Shouldn’t Miss in Bangkok One of the most visited and iconic sites in Bangkok, this temple complex was a true highlight of my trip and an experience I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the city. It’s not just a tourist attraction it’s a cultural treasure that beautifully reflects Thailand’s spiritual and artistic heritage. Most visitors come to see the breathtaking Reclining Buddha, an impressive 46-meter-long golden statue that radiates serenity and awe. While it’s certainly a must-see, my personal favorite part of the visit was exploring the main courtyard. The vibrant mosaics, peaceful garden corners, and detailed statues create an atmosphere that is both lively and calming. The architecture throughout the complex is absolutely stunning intricate carvings, colorful tilework, and beautifully sculpted structures that make you feel as if you've stepped into another world. There are also informative displays and plaques that provide great insights into Buddhist traditions and the significance of the temple. Helpful Tips: Arrive early to beat the crowds and enjoy a more serene experience. Entrance fee is 300 Baht, and cash only is accepted. It’s conveniently located near the Grand Palace, making it easy to visit both in one day. Whether you're passionate about culture, architecture, or spiritual history, this temple offers a meaningful and visually unforgettable experience.
