Mai’s most iconic temples, famous for its impressive golden pagoda and beautifully adorned buildings throughout the complex. The temple was originally built in the 14th century (around 1345) to house the Phra Singh Buddha, one of the most revered Buddha images in northern Thailand.
While I personally preferred the more local, off-the-beaten-path temples in Chiang Mai, it’s easy to see why this one is so popular among visitors — its mix of Lanna architectural style and historical significance makes it a standout. When I visited, it wasn’t too crowded, which made exploring the grounds more peaceful.
Fun fact: the temple hall (Wihan Lai Kham) is considered one of the best examples of classic Lanna art and craftsmanship, with intricate carvings and stunning murals inside.
All in all, it’s definitely worth a stop if you’re exploring the major temples in the city.
