Big Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Yai) is one of the must-visit landmarks in Pattaya. The massive golden Buddha statue is impressive and instantly gives a peaceful, spiritual vibe the moment you arrive. The highlight for me was the viewpoint at the top you get a beautiful panoramic view of Pattaya city, especially great for photos during the evening. The temple grounds are well maintained, clean, and calm despite being popular with tourists. Entrance is free, but remember to dress respectfully (no shorts or sleeveless tops). There’s a short staircase to reach the top, but it’s manageable and totally worth it. Overall, it’s a perfect break from Pattaya’s busy nightlife peaceful, cultural, and scenic. Highly recommended whether you’re visiting solo or with family.

*Wat Phra Yai (Big Buddha Temple), Pattaya* is a truly serene and spiritually uplifting place. The massive golden Buddha statue is awe-inspiring and offers a peaceful atmosphere atop the hill with panoramic views of Pattaya city and the sea. The staircase flanked by dragon-style railings adds to the temple’s charm and cultural richness. A must-visit spot for anyone seeking calm, culture, and beautiful photo opportunities. Highly recommended! Big car parking area.

Wat Phra Yai is a peaceful and beautiful temple located at a height, offering a great view of Pattaya city. There is no entry ticket, which makes it an easy and worthwhile stop while exploring the area. The temple is walkable, but taking a cab is recommended, especially if you want a more comfortable journey uphill. There are a few small shops near the temple selling souvenirs and refreshments. Proper clothing is required to enter the temple, but if you are not dressed appropriately, they provide cloths to wrap around, which is very helpful for visitors. At first glance, the stairs may look intimidating, but don’t get scared by the number of steps. I explored a side stairway, which had around 10–15 proper steps and made reaching the top quite easy. From the top, you get a lovely view of Pattaya city. Don’t forget to visit the nearby viewing point as well—it offers another great spot for photos and city views. Overall, Wat Phra Yai is a calm and scenic place that’s definitely worth visiting when in Pattaya.

A Must-Visit Landmark in Pattaya Visiting the Big Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Yai) is an absolute must-pass for anyone staying in Pattaya. From the moment you arrive, the convenience is clear; there is plenty of car parking and several vendors at the entrance selling refreshing drinks and ice cream—perfect for the tropical heat. Getting There The hill leading up to the temple is fairly steep. If you are arriving by taxi or ride-share app, I highly recommend ensuring your driver takes you all the way to the top rather than dropping you at the base. A Bolt car from Central Pattaya typically costs between 120–200 Baht each way, making it an affordable excursion. Culture & Dress Code Because this is a sacred site, it is important to dress respectfully. Ladies are required to have their skin covered (shoulders and knees). If you aren't prepared, don't worry—sarongs are available at the entrance to help you cover up. The Experience The temple grounds offer a peaceful and pleasant environment. My Thai girlfriend absolutely loved the atmosphere and the spiritual significance of the site. Beyond the golden statues, make sure to head to the rear of the platform; you will find some incredible photo opportunities with panoramic views of the coastline. Whether you are there for the culture, the religion, or the views, it is well worth the trip!

Nice lovely hike up, not too hard. Great views of Jomtien skyline and the Buddha statues. Lovely sunset views but obstructed by buildings near Jomtien beach - still serene and lovely. Free entry. Several people bought birds in a cage to free them near sunset.

The Wat Phra Yai also called the Big Buddha Temple at pratumnak hills is a beautiful temple on a hill top in Pattaya. A must visit place if you are looking to learn more about Buddhism and its teachings. They have different statues of Lord Buddha depicting his various stages of life. The city view from here is mesmerising and so you can capture great pictures and make memories here. They also have souvenir shops right outside the temple and a place where you can borrow a Sarong in case you are in shorts as they don’t allow entry into the temple with shorts for the ladies and entry is free
