19 Best Things to Do in Bangkok

"Sitting on the quieter Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya River, Wat Prayoon is a crowd-free, surprise-filled temple compound with plenty of moments for peaceful solitude. Visitors can spend an afternoon here exploring the towering white chedi—it's rare to find one in Bangkok you can actually enter—or watching the turtles and monitor lizards in the Khao Mo garden. It's an excellent spot for families with young kids and temple-lovers looking for something besides a giant gold Buddha (although it's got one of those too)." - Diana Hubbell, Katie Lockhart

I really loved going to this beautiful temple. Words can't define the feeling especially when you go near a turtle pond to feed them. Everything in this temple was so beautiful and calm. I will visit on my next trip too.

A must visit Wat. If you want to explore alone, like quiet, peaceful atmosphere, the weekday is better. A museum at the entrance and can also enter inside of the Suthep (upstairs). Near by the Khao More Wat, feed turtles and fish there ( only 20 Baht for turtles food)

Impressive Chedi, all white, near the Chao Praya River. The Wat nearby is very beautiful too. The structure is simple but the murals behind the statue of Buddha are ancient and very nice. So is the Golden Buddha. Unlike in Wat Po or Wat Phra Kheo, you will no see so many farangs here. Enjoy the peaceful and zen garden. And learn a bit about trees and plants... There are some boards with names during your walk...

Great place to spend an hour away from the hustle and bustle and feed the resident turtles. Little pots of food cost 20 baht and come with a long stick to save your fingers from snapping jaws!

Beautiful and quiet temple, away from the bustling crowds. It is free to enter, and features a stunning temple with white stupars. You can go inside the temple and view the inner structure of the stupar. Outside the temple is a pond with many turtles which you can feed for a small fee.

Fantastic temple with a bonus Chinese rock garden. Undoubtedly one of Bangkok’s under-appreciated gems. The ordination hall is gorgeous, with fascinating murals. Don’t miss Khao Mo, a deceptively peaceful spot for meditating or just feeding its many enormous (and voracious) turtles.

The large chedi in this temple is famous, and the garden inside the temple is also an interesting place to visit. If you have a chance to visit the area, I highly recommend visiting.

Wat Prayurawongsawas Worawihan (shortened to Wat Prayun) in Bangkok was completed in 1855 and is unique in Thailand as being the largest Buddhist chedi (also called a stupa or pagoda) with a hollowed and accessible interior, walls covered in tiny pieces of gold leaf, and gold Buddha statues representing every day of the week. An easy 15 minute walk from Sanam Chai MRT and across Memorial Bridge, the temple complex hosts a small museum, large walking garden, and water turtle feeding area.
