Waterford Castle

"Want to get away from it all? Then head to the private island where Waterford Castle is located. The restored 16th century castle is full of elegant touches like patterned brocade curtains and plush couches perfect for curling up with a book. For dinner, head to Munster Room, the hotel’s restaurant that serves upscale takes on Irish classics, like smoked haddock topped with caviar and duck breast with Jerusalem artichokes and red cabbage gel, best finished off with fresh Irish cheese."

The dream wedding venue that we could have only wished for. This was unlike any venue we’d seen before (and we’ve been to a lot!). The pictures speak for themselves, but what deserves a callout is the amazing hospitality and welcome faces that greeted every one of our guests throughout the stay. The privacy and closeness afforded by the island, the lodges and the clubhouse were unrivalled. It truly felt like we had our own space to celebrate with the people who mattered most to us. Gillian, the castle’s wedding coordinator, made sure that everything ran as smoothly as possible. Her expertise were evident from day 1 as she made sure every base was covered, putting us at complete ease so all we had to do was focus on ourselves on the day. Antonio who managed the service was also fantastic and willing to help at every opportunity (extending even outside of his remit). We couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with. A surefire consideration for couples looking to add something completely unique and inherently Irish to their special day. Not a bad word to say. I wish we could do it all again! Aaron & Antonia

We couldn’t have asked for more then what the wonderful team at Waterford castle delivered for us and our guests on our wedding day. From the moment we arrived, everything surpassed our expectations. The castle itself is stunning with gorgeous gardens and beautiful woodlands where you’ll randomly find deer and wallabies roaming freely. Being on this little island is truly magical. A special mention needs to go to Gillian, who is truly outstanding and meticulously. Antonio, Carl and Sally couldn’t have been more accommodating. They done everything they could to help and accommodate us during our stay. All we wanted was for everyone to eat well and enjoy themselves. Everyone has commented on how amazing the food and atmosphere was, and how the team there had such great attention to detail. On the whole, our wedding at Waterford Castle was nothing short of enchanting. The memories we made will last a lifetime, and it was everything we hoped for and more. We truly can’t recommend Waterford Castle and the team there highly enough to anyone dreaming of a wedding that feels elegant, intimate and filled with genuine warmth and joy.

Peaceful getaway. Total relaxation. Beautiful bedroom in the castle, roll top, deep bath. Lovely log fire & couches in reception. Friendly helpful staff at every turn. Exceptional breakfast. Fully recharged and happy. Would recommend for a tranquil 24hrs. The break started as soon as we got onto the ferry to the island.

We just had our intimate wedding at Waterford Castle last week and I am beyond grateful on how everything turned out!!🥰💕✨️||We stayed in the castle on February to get a feel of the whole venue, and we knew right then and there that Waterford Castle is the perfect place for our wedding. 🌸✨️||At first contact with their wedding coordinator, Gillian, it was so smooth and efficient. She was so clear and helpful with everything that we needed for our wedding celebration. She was excellent with communication and accomodating with our requests. We exchanged a loooot of emails, for there were many changes in our plan but she was patient and understanding to welcome our requests. She even facilitated the flow of the day and helped us keep track on the sequence of events.||We stayed in the Presidential suite and OMG, that suite was huge! It gave us a real castle feel and we got everything we needed. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spotless and the view was phenomenal! Overall, it was such a pleasure to stay in! Our friends stayed in the castle rooms and they said the same thing, it's comfortable and beautiful.||One of the best things that made us choose Waterford Castle as our wedding venue was the food!! We had dinner there on February and we were instantly blown away by how delicious everything was! I couldn't forget the crispy oyster that I had! Then, on our wedding dinner, all of our guests commended the food, from the starters to the dessert, everything tasted lovely. Even one of my chef guest said that the food was exquisite! ||I guess the overall experience was really topnotch because of the staff who went all the way to give us a memorable and magical event. Marie, who was always attentive with our needs in the dinner was on top of her game. We even had to change some things on the reception but nothing was a bother for her. The receptionists who checked us in were so friendly and funny, cracking jokes as they carried loads of our stuff to the suite. The servers were so kind and always smiling, we felt we're so well looked after. The bartender also prepared perfectly the shots we requested for our guests. The housekeeping staff made sure our suite was neat and tidy and we had fresh towels and toiletries everytime we need them. ||Looking back at how our wedding day went, I'd give Waterford Castle a thousand stars if I could! 🥰✨️🌸 They went up and above on how a great hospitality should be done.😊

We spent two nights here at this wonderful castle hotel. We stayed in the Kildare room. The castle has been restored to a very luxurious standard and no detail has been overlooked or expense spared. Everywhere you look is beautiful and in tip top condition. It is also very warm for a castle on a chilly weekend in October which has not always been our experience in other castle stays we have taken. The grounds are stunningly beautiful and peaceful. The ferry to the island is also charming - something different and the level of the river constantly changing adds to the experience. This really is a special hotel in a gorgeous setting. The staff were lovely and the breakfast delicious. This is a beautiful place for your special occasion celebration. There is lots to do in nearby Waterford and in the surrounding areas to explore and make the most of your visit to this gorgeous part of the country.

Stayed in the lodges in Waterford castle in a three bed house. First thing I’d say if there is a wedding on in the castle do not stay. |On arrival we were told to not go near reception yet enter via the back door. We walked around the hotel and couldn’t find a back door so we had to walk in through a wedding reception. Was a bit strange for a hotel for that to be first greeting. ||The house itself was really nice on the grounds when we were finally checked in however that night we had a bit of a nightmare. | The night we arrived after we came back to the lodge from dinner our door handle was completely broken. When we called the reception a girl called Katie I think (who was very nice) came to try and assist.|She attempted to open the door yet to no avail we were waiting for over an hour to get back into the lodge. It was getting late now and of course this was frustrating. Eventually a colleague ( duty manager I believe) appeared at the house. He went around the back of the house and suddenly appeared at the front door open. Bear in mind we had checked this back door with Katie and it was not able to be opened. |He said he got in through the back door but we were suspicious of this as it hadn’t worked five mins prior. We were also told we wouldn’t be able to leave again this night as the door was still broken on the front.|When we finally got into the lodge after a long wait we went to check the back door. The curtain was pulled over the window and when we pulled it back it appeared the manager had actually broken the window (completely forced open) to gain access to the property. Surprisingly, he failed to mention this was how he got in and instead pulled the curtain hoping we wouldn’t notice. When we saw this and the window broken open we felt it wasn’t safe to stay in a non secure house for the night and rang back reception to politely ask to be moved to another lodge. It was extremely unprofessional to not even mention that this window wouldn’t close and would be wide open the whole night. ||When the staff came back around, the receptionist completely agreed that it was not safe to stay in If there was a wide open window and apologized. However the man who had broken the window had still failed to acknowledge that he had not mentioned this was how he got in. It was a bit crazy for a hotel charging over 300 a night. |Eventually we got into the new lodge which was grand. We heard absolutely nothing from the reception on or management regarding the situation we had. We were told on checkout (after we asked) that they would be contacting us regarding a refund or at least some sort of compensation. It has now been nearly a month since we stayed and still have heard nothing. |It is extremely disappointing and this has left us with no choice but to leave a review. You would think that a hotel charging so much for a nights stay would at least give an apology or some form of compensation but we have essentially been ignored.||Also to mention. If there is a wedding on avoid as the bar and restaurant in the hotel are out of bounds.

Booked to celebrate 30 year anniversary and it didn’t disappoint. Outside our usual price range but worth every cent. Got lots of brownie points with my wife for this stay. The suite was worth the extra price as was the dinner. The staff were outstanding catering to our every whim, especially Antonio. Highly recommend and forever grateful

What an amazing experience. Getting on the ferry we were greated by a lovely gent who was so friendly and even said our room is amazing .|The drive up to the castle was stunning with deer and wallabies in the fields . |Then we see this amazing hotel which was like something out of the movies .|We were early so couldn't check in , so the only thing to do was go to the bar where the fantastic Alexander looked after us . He was so friendly, polite and welcoming. He also makes an amazing gin fizz .|We then went to our room ( the rose suite ) which was the icing on the cake .|We had an amazing dinner and cheeseboard washed down with their own cabernet savingnon. |Next day we walked around the grounds and it was so peaceful . A haven from busy life .|Cannot wait to return.

Yelp
The castle experience on the little island at Waterford is a real find! What a gorgeous property. From the moment you take the ferry over to the island which takes just minutes, you drive off to a lovely tree lined road to enter the castle courtyard. This is pure magic. A family of deer wander the lawn and the back meadows. There are trails and alcoves and wonders around every corner. For less than we spent at a chain hotel, we experienced luxury here! An affordable and lovely place to stay and immerse yourself in the magic. Excellent hospitality all around. The executive suite is like a well appointed apartment. So many thoughtful details here. it's really breathtaking to walk the property.

Yelp
My husband and I found this course on the internet. We were planning a cruise and wished to play golf in Ireland. Val replied to our email within an hour and had us booked for a tee time. Val handled all of our transportation needs and we were in touch with a local driver, Brian, who arrived in a timely manner to escort us from the ship to the course. We were treated to tidbits of information along our drive about the locations we traveled thru. The course itself is absolutely beautiful, abounding in natural scenery and wildlife which gives one a feeling of playing in a very natural setting. It's a parkland course, narrow and fairly long fairways. The holes are challenging.....but not frustrating. Quality rental clubs are available if needed. The staff at Waterford is professional and welcoming. You can get a cart if you make a reservation for one. We felt wonderfully welcomed and enjoyed some fish and chips and had a pint after our round.
