"On the outdoor patio at Waterford Estate in Stellenbosch, guests can relax while tasting South African wines with help from the knowledgable staff. For those with a sweet tooth, the “Wine & Chocolate Experience” is particularly appealing. Created by Waterford founder Kevin Arnold in partnership with chocolatier Richard von Geusau, the tasting pairs shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, and sweet wine with a series of dark and milk chocolates for a delicious adventure. If you’re itching to get out and explore, opt for experiences like the “Wine Drive Safari” (a three-hour trip in a safari-type vehicle that allows guests to taste wines among the vineyards of their origin) and the “Porcupine Trail Walk” (three routes of varying difficulty that traverse the vineyard- and natural fynbos–filled landscape)."

10 Best Wineries & Tasting Rooms in Cape Town

"The drive through the picturesque Blaauwklippen valley, outside Stellenbosch, sets the tone for the arrival at Waterford, an unpretentious winery surrounded by Cape fynbos vegetation and mountains. Avenues of sweet-smelling citrus trees and rolling lawns invite you toward the cellar and tasting room, and a Staffordshire terrier might be basking in the sun. It feels like you’re visiting someone’s home. The excellent wines here represent the best of the region, and you can taste them inside an Italian-style winery courtyard or out in the vineyards." - Jane Broughton

I have been here a few times and it is always nice. The staff is professional and friendly. I’d recommend the chocolate pairing , but mainly because the rose geranium chocolate is my favourite. The platter is also very interesting and more than you would expect from other wine farms.

I found the architecture and the interior decoration very pleasing and our experience there equally impressive. The staff was accommodating and pleasant. Keep it up!

Lovely estate, the venue is absolutely gorgeous, but the food did not meet the standard. Food was cold and not cooked correctly, well also messing up the orders at a very high end location. My partner and I ordered the lamb rump, but the fat was not rendered, the meat was cold and bland. Hopefully we were just unlucky with our time at Waterford Estate, because it is such a beautiful place.

Peaceful and beautiful vineyard. We had a chocolate and wine pairing and it was very good. Superb service by Tyler, our host for the visit. We also had a tour in the cellar, which was pretty cool!

A fantastic experience Wine Tasting today, beautiful setting with knowledgeable staff. We tasted a combination of White/Red & a Rose and enjoyed a tasty platter too.

Waterford is not just a wine farm... it also has heart and soul.... this can only be achieved by having a family who works together and stays together. They might not be family at blood but heart and soul they are. Want to say thank you to Mark, Jamie and Natalie for your time, effort and kindness. Our waiter was so friendly and the service from all four people was out of this world. Thank you for showing us your world and a small piece of what you do and experience daily. Take care of your self and enjoy every moment. Thank you, thank you and thank you. Dirk

I had a reservation for both a wine tasting and lunch at Waterford Estate, but unfortunately, this turned out to be my worst experience in the region. Upon arrival, the staff initially claimed they had no record of our reservation. After some delay, they managed to find it and confirmed it included both the tasting and lunch. However, things continued to go downhill. We waited over 40 minutes just to be served a small piece of warm bread. When we tried to order our main courses, we were informed that the kitchen had already closed—more than 40 minutes earlier. No one had informed us, no one offered alternatives, and no one took proper responsibility. In total, we spent more than two hours at the estate, with no adequate explanation and no meal served. In the end, we received a basic apology and were simply told that the kitchen was closed. For a place with such a prestigious reputation, this lack of communication and poor customer service was deeply disappointing. I sincerely hope they take this kind of feedback seriously and improve their coordination and hospitality.

My husband and I are not big wine drinkers but when in Cape Town you have to visit a winery or 2. We chose Waterford because of the wine safari they offer and my goodness did we choose wisely. First off the place is absolutely magnificent. It was built in 1998 but looks like an old Tuscan estate that has been there for ages. The decor, views and grounds are spectacular. Our safari gave us a complete tour of the property including the grounds, magnificent cellar and production room. Our phenomenal guide Shawn was a wealth of knowledge and gave us such a great appreciation of just how much work and science goes into producing a single bottle of wine. We also were treated to a picnic next to a lovely pond and the setting was out of a movie. The nibbles were scrumptious and the wine delicious. I cannot recommend this estate and tour enough. It was a gorgeous way to spend the afternoon!
