Google
Great restaurant for the view and service. Food was good, not great. Risotto was ok, crabs were really good. Steamed muscles were good too. I would recommend the place for events and ambience but not over recommend the food for the price.

Google
Our best meal yet. Riverside restaurant delivers with taste, class, and a view. Gorgeous setting alongside and overlooking the river. Winter landscape stunning. Friendly and polite staff serving up some amazing food. It's definitely worth checking out their menu. Satisfied with the meal, the spend, and highly recommend 👌

Google
It was our first time at the Waterhouse Restaurant and I absolutely recommend! The only reason I give it a 4 star rating is the service. Our server was very nice, cocktails and apps came quickly enough. Our dinners were then brought in by a runner. Perfect. But then your server didn’t come to check on us until we were almost halfway through our meal, glasses empty. By then de had decided to stick with our waters. Had he checked on our drinks earlier we would have ordered wine! Not a huge deal, and an easy fix!!

Google
Thee best monthly date night spot for my husband and I! Hands down, the freshest farm to table food and drink! The atmosphere is cozy and the service is superb! The attached photos were from four different occasions. If I can recommend one thing, order the espresso martini with your dessert. There's a scoop of caramel ice cream in it!! We can't wait for our next date night on the patio next to the water! 😊

Google
The Waterhouse is a beautiful restaurant with a lovely outdoor patio along the river/dam. Nestled in a cute little plaza, The Waterhouse serves delicious drinks and pretty fancy dishes. They have a variety of dishes that Can please both meat eaters and vegetarians. It is a little more expensive than your everyday casual dining, but not unreasonable. They also hosted my workplace for appetizers and drinks and were phenomenal and attentive despite us being a 30+ person party. I got the tempura fried cauliflower bowl and it was delicious. The orange ginger sauce was perfect and the rice was cooked extremely well. The mojito was also delicious. My friends got a non-alcoholic lavender lemonade and loved it. I will definitely go back.

Google
A long-time favorite - the stunning river view will draw you in but make no mistake it’s the delicious seasonal menu and sensational service that will ensure you come back again and again. Make reservations. And no, you can’t be guaranteed a river view seat (inside or out), but you can request it. The food is interesting but not overly complicated. The atmosphere is a little elevated but also casual. The wait staff are attentive, friendly and experienced. A great spot anytime but also wonderful for special occasions. I love the Waterhouse! See you soon!

Google
The Waterhouse has one of the most beautiful views you could imagine. We sat on the patio right next to the river with the waterfall in the background. The seafood risotto with lobster and shrimp was amazing, And the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We would highly recommend the Waterhouse!

Google
Amazing experience and amazing staff. Our server was so patient, we had a little one with us and she was so helpful and thoughtful with his food order. The chef even came out to say hi to the little guy. We were there for 2 hours or so and never felt like we were pressured to leave. Of course the food was on point too. We will be back again when we return to the area!!

Yelp
The turkey club was very large but very good. Their cranberry aioli was unique and so delicious. I definitely only ate one half and was full. Their fries and fresh and cut thick. They tasted great too. The prices really weren't bad for the amount of food they give. The ambiance is fine. Nothing to rave about or particularly interesting. Either way, I'd certainly eat here again.

Yelp
I ordered a coconut cake and a crème brûlée. The coconut cake was $14 for just a thin slice. And the crème brûlée was a tiny HALF cup for $11. I was incredibly disappointed with the size of the crème brûlée the flavor for the crème brûlée was good. But the coconut cake was pretty bland and dry. The frosting was too sweet in my opinion. The hostess was very quick and friendly.

Yelp
Came up for the weekend to ski in crotched mountain. We decided to stay in Peterborough and we are so glad we did! This restaurant is situated in the cutest little strip, there's a pub and a brewery nearby. We came for dinner on a Sunday night and seems like everything closes by 8pm, we had a 730 reservation which we kind of felt bad but the service was amazing! We did not feel rushed at all and our server was extremely accommodating. For appetizers we tried the soup and the fried zucchini which we were so hungry I didn't even get a picture! Everything was delicious, the soup which was mushroom and onions was actually very flavorful and creamy. I personally am not a fan of onions but this soup was amazing. For entres we got the wagyu steak which is served with Brussels sprouts or vegetables. I'm vegetarian but my hubby and my brother in law raved about the raspberry glaze over the steak. Literally they could not stop talking about how good of a compliment it was to the dish. The steaks were cooked perfectly medium. The eggplant was so good! It's served with a tomato and pesto sauce and I finished the entire dish in such a small amount of time. The Brussels sprouts were delicious of course, I think I really liked that they were crunchy and not overly saucy. Now the fried green tomatoes were delicious and crunchy, not overly oily. And they were served with an aioli sauce that was so good! I can't say enough about what a good experience we had at this restaurant. If you're in the area, I suggest you try it out!

Yelp
Gorgeous view out by the water, excellent service, and a fabulous menu. We had such a nice lunch, we can't wait to go back!! (Get the Kobe tacos!!)

Yelp
I've been going to Waterhouse for years, so I have history. The location is stunning, especially the tables outside next to the river in the Summer and Fall. Service has always been spotty -- sometimes excellent, sometimes forgetful. Prices have always been on the high side, but not outrageous. The issue I have is with the food. Yes, it's always at least pretty good. But frankly, these days with consistently excellent food in many places, -- Pearl just down the street and Greenleaf 20 minutes away in Milford -- pretty good and quite expensive just doesn't cut it. Waterhouse is just not a creative foodie destination. Sure, the burgers are dependable and the flatbreads are too. Three ok fish tacos for $21. But there's an overall blandness, a lack of seasoning. Everything needs a jolt of flavor forward. Perhaps that's because Waterhouse tends to cater to the older generation of moneyed Peterborough, with a generous helping of River Mead, the local retirement village, thrown in; folks who want what they dined on in the good old days. Parker rolls, indeed. Too easy there Chef. Spice it up!

Renee B.

Yelp
We had a lovely lunch out on the patio by the river. Our server Tyler was great and the food was delicious, especially the Kobe tacos and Thai flatbread. Highly recommended and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Cute restaurant on the river in Peterborough. This is one of the few, higher-end restaurants for many miles and doesn't disappoint. There is ample outdoor seating with lovely views. If you plan to sit indoors, ask be seated at the window - staff are extremely kind and accommodating. Unfortunately, indoors is extremely loud (likely due to the metal ceiling and lack of anything to absorb the sound), but it's a sweet space nonetheless. The restaurant could do with another waiter or two; service is a bit slow on busy nights, but not for lack of trying. Staff are simply shorthanded. The food is good - a few pasta, fish, and meat dishes. I highly recommend the burger, made with local organic meat. Try it with mushrooms, sautéed onions, and cheddar... You won't be disappointed. Also recommend making a reservation for early in the evening or on the later end so you can skip the crowd.

Yelp
I've been here many times and find excuses to make my way there repeatedly (which is no where near where I live). During my latest visit, I had the Mushroom soup and Fried Green Tomato BLT for lunch. First, the Mushroom soup - do yourself a favor and get it. It might be the best soup I've ever had. I wish they sold it by the bucket. This was my first time with the BLT and it was delicious. I'll definitely order it again. It came with fries which were cooked perfectly - SO good! I mention this because only a few weeks earlier I was in NYC and had brunch at a high end restaurant by a famous named chef (who I won't) and the fries tasted as good as ones from the frozen bag in my freezer. It was nice that Waterhouse could get this so right. I needed to leave at a certain time for a scheduled engagement and the service was impeccable. I wish I could remember the lady's name, but it could be said about all servers and house staff. During all visits, everyone has always been friendly and professional making every experience great. (One of the reasons, besides the food, I keep coming back.) Lastly, I tend to visit during quieter times, but can see how it could be loud. I read a review where someone knocked the atmosphere completely. Perhaps they prefer more of a sports bar. I would describe this restaurant as understated elegance. So, it's lovely without being stuffy at all. And it's always nice watching the flowing water from the brook just outside.

Yelp
I just returned from yet another exceptional meal with my friend, Dick, and his daughter and husband. we sat in the "igloo" and were served by Brianna. She is an exceptional server in every way. Her gracious manner and beautiful smile makes us all feel so welcome. Thank you, Brianna. I hope to see you again soon. Dorothy Graham and Dick Chamberlain

Yelp
Wonderful location sitting on the edge of a pretty river, great deck overlooking the river, and a really nice ambiance inside as well. The food was excellent, we had the trout and flatbread, great choices of wine and beer, and the dessert was outstanding. And maybe the best part was the service, the waitress was really pleasant, attentive, prompt, sharp, and anticipated our needs, without being too present. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Held the PERFECT lunch for a family reunion! The preparation/reservation caused the organizer a little anxiety, but Waterhouse staff helped thru it all. Had a private room that set the tone for the event - seating arranged for conversation and celebration. Food, beverages and service were EXCELLENT! Every family member raved about the entire day - and we created some great memorable moments! Highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
The Waterhouse has always been hit or missed with the food. Sometimes the food is on point, and then there are times the food is so overcooked it is awful. My last visit to the Waterhouse will be my last because the food was so overcooked and the service was subpar. I ordered the Prime Rib, which they advise as one of their specialties. I ask for rare but would accept med rare or even medium. The prime rib that came out was well well done, the meat was grey, and it was so overcooked. When I told the server it was overcooked, she said you did not cut into the meat, so how do you know. So to make the server happy, I cut into the meat, and yep, it was dry and overcooked. About 10 minutes later, the server came back and said the piece of prime rib. I was given the rarest piece of meat on the roast. What the heck? Why even ask what temperature you want if you can not accommodate the request. But more importantly of you know the temperature that was requested was not available, why did you not try to stear me in another direction. Dinner with friends was very uncomfortable because I was the only one not eating. The rest of my party enjoyed their meals. The server said she spoke with the manager and they were sorry but the manager never came out to acknowledge a mistake was made. Who knows, maybe the server was just trying to blow smoke up my ass, but if a manager was on duty, they are piss pore and do not care about their customers.

Yelp
Taking the advice of friends who live in Peterborough, my wife and I chose to celebrate my birthday with dinner at The Waterhouse. The ambience was nice and pleasant. We were promptly seated and a server took our order for pre-dinner drinks, an Italian Prosecco Rose infused with an elderberry Saint Germaine liqueur for my wife and a mocktail with ginger beer for me, a starter, calamari with fried zucchini., and entrees. The drinks were attractive but not memorable; Unfortunately, the kitchen sent our starter at the same time our drinks arrived. After a very lengthy pause, our entrees, pan seared scallops with creamy polenta and seasonal vegetables for my wife and duck breast with different seasonal vegetables and wild rice topped with a dark cherry reduction, arrived.. One scallop was prepared appropriately; the other three scallops were overcooked. The duck breast was not particularly flavorful and the wild rice was ice cold, like it had been lifted directly from a refrigerator. When I complained to the server about the state of the wild rice, she immediately assured us that we would not be charged for that entree and offered us complimentary desserts. The desserts were average at best. It was clear to us that the flawed meals were the fault of the kitchen. The food was boring, lackluster, and uninspired. Maybe The Waterhouse needs a new chef!

Yelp
We found this place unexpectedly and I'm really glad we did! The food was great! we were able to eat outside on a nice sunny day, and the waitress was really nice and attentive. We definitely plan on going back!

Yelp
So, we made a reservation online not knowing that dinner wasn't served until 500pm. Our reservation was at 430pm so we had to dip cocktails and eat "small" food until 5. Not a big deal, but we would've made other arrangements had they notified us on the reservation. My food was pretty bad. I got the fish and chips. The fish was over-fried and the French fries were tiny and burnt. Almost like they dumped the ass end of the French fry bag that has all the bits and ends into my serving. I'll live. The other meals were very tasty as I was forced to eat from their plates. The filet mignon was seasoned perfectly and the Fig and Pig flat bread was tasty. The beer list isn't very impressive, but the wine list is. Overpriced, but HUGE. My guess is the yuppie community that comes to the area on some retreat doesn't mind the expense. The waitress was slow. Very slow. It's tough nowadays to lambaste a restaurant over staffing, but she was super slow with few customers. We waited a good twenty minutes or so for the bill. The real charm is its location. It's right by this running canal. It truly is a perfect date night. Just stick to the wine and apps

Yelp
What a wonderful setting. We entered at 1 PM and we're ushered in after a 15-minute wait to one of the water tables in the middle of the garden. The water flowing provided a relaxing and comfortable setting. Due to the pandemic, the tables are arranged more than the 6 feet in the Governor's Executive Order, making it even more comfortable and safer. I watched the staff clean and sanitize the tables before guests were seated, adding to the safe feeling. For starters, we had a honeydew cocktail and a superb Clown Shoes Double IPA, sourced from Boston. Still local and I loved it. We ordered a lamb burger and a salad with salmon. Both were superb. Despite the pandemic, this place hasn't lost its upscale yet casual ambiance. Loved the visit and we will return.

Yelp
Best in town, by far. Most variety all freshly prepared. No Sysco frozen and dropped in fryer

Kiana L.

Yelp
Honestly, horrible all around unless you were born in the early 1900's. The ambience was horrible, extremely echo-y and ridiculously bright. Its like eating in an interrogation room- quite the waste of what could be a beautiful restaurant. The food was overpriced for the most basic and bland options which seem to cater to only one demographic; the elderly. After having one of the unassuming flatbreads as a starter, i went with what i was considering the safe route and got the fish tacos while my boyfriend got the seasonal watermelon salad. the fish tacos: slathered with an avocado aioli which literally consisted of only avocado, mayo and 3x the amount of lime juice it should of had. The fish, tasted as if they were seasoned with only pepper. The pickled onion on top was not even broken up- it was just a large slice on top (this was not intended as some small shreds were also on the taco) Watermelon salad; seemed to have been flavored with the reminisce of past orders cooked on the grill resulting in a rather unpleasant soggy watermelon experience. Overall- i am glad we had a gift card and did not have to pay our own hard earned money for this.

Yelp
Deeply disappointed with our recent visit. We made our reservation just a couple hours ahead and were seated for dinner at a hightop in the bar area. Horrible ambiance. Crowded. Too loud for pleasant conversation. Our view was of the parking lot, cars immediately outside the plate glass. We decided not to spend much dinner money on this loud, uncomfortable, ugly experience, so ordered only flatbreads. The flatbreads were just ok, seriously overpriced. Crust needed more bake time. Mine was drizzled with honey that flowed off the serving board and onto the tabletop when the server put the board down, so it was difficult to eat without dragging my shirtsleeve through honey. After waiting several minutes for a water refill, I had to step to the bar to get water. This was laughably bad as our first nice dinner out after a year of chemo and radiation. Not at all like our happy visits of years ago. When customers call for reservations, warn them if they will need to be seated in the bar, so customers have the option of declining.

Yelp
My husband and I were really excited to get takeout from here yesterday. It's a very pretty place, and we've enjoyed the food when dining in person. We ordered food while driving back to Peterborough, and spoke to a very nice woman on the phone. When we went to pick up our order after 25 minutes there had been a mistake. They had forgotten to enter our entire order. My husband and I get it. We both own our own small businesses and I worked in restaurants for most of my 20s. We were understanding. We waited in the parking lot for twenty five minutes. We thought it was really odd that nothing was offered for a pretty major mistake. A dessert, anything...would have been better than nothing. We really should have just left and gone somewhere else. Sitting for 25 minutes after you called in advance? Not great. The salads were also tiny, and his medium rare steak was cooked well. Not our best meal. Just ok. Service is less than ok.

Janine L.

Yelp
Consistently great service and make things interesting with adding different specials to the menu. The food is always delicious and cooked to perfection. Bravo to the staff for delivering a great experience every time! Oh and they have the best espresso martinis in town
google avatar

William R.

Yelp
We've eaten here a dozen times. The food is always good and it's always difficult to decide what to have from the vast menu. Recently though, we had the calamari and the scallops and both were much TOO SALTY. The beef tenderloin risotto was exceptional as was the lobster wontons! The service was great! I think if I owned a restaurant called Waterhouse where a main drawer is a view of the rolling river I would probably have my staff clean off all the cobwebs from the windows on a daily basis...? All in all, it's a great place to dine and I'm sure we'll go back.

Guy L.

Yelp
Pizza came to the table ice cold. Didn't see waitress again until she brought the check. If you're interested in overpriced cold food this is definitely the place for you.

Jenna K.

Yelp
First time here absolutely not the last, may be one of my favorites now. If your looking for delicious food and drinks this is your place! Our waitress was kind and attentive We spent our evening on the patio near the river. On the way home we couldn't help but rave about the FOOD! Sooo tasty!
google avatar

Jenn C.

Yelp
This is a solid, consistently good, friendly, and COVID safe place to eat, brunch or dinner. They practice social distancing inside the restaurant, and everyone wears masks. We've been a few times this year and enjoyed the food, drinks, and friendly service every time. There are good parking options nearby, in lots and on the streets. And there are plenty of other things to do in town (shops, etc), so you if you're driving in from out of town, the trip can definitely be worth your while. Every time we've gone this year, I tried the soup of the day, and every time it was delicious! The food menu is not huge, but it's big enough to have options for everyone, and between me and my husband, there's nothing we haven't liked (or loved)! They have a fun drink menu, too, with creative and very friendly bartenders that can surely whip up something extra creative for you if you're in the mood! Highly recommend this place if you're in the area (or looking for a place to plan a day trip around!).

Laura B.

Yelp
Been here 3 times over the past 3 years. Sat on the beautiful patio each time. Food and service good.

Yelp
We stumbled upon the Waterhouse when Harlows was only doing curbside. This is a exquisite restaurant with a subpar hostess. We asked to sit waterside and were refused because "there was a reservation". We enjoyed out lunch and drinks. No one ever came for the reserved table. BLT on brioche was amazing. Meatloaf sandwich was lackluster without the ketchup and spicy relish. Red Pepper bisque was amazing Beautiful location. Great service. Hostess could use some training on an exquisite selfless experience

Nancy L.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Service started out slow but picked up once we ordered. Would recommend to anyone. Menu offered nice variety and everything we tried was great
google avatar

Caleb H.

Yelp
They had a large party which is totally understandable. But to seat a two table and ignore them for 30 minutes is not. Plus three other tables around us were waiting for service but we're at least greeted and had water. When we were offered drinks it took 20 minutes to show up. The service that we did have with the server drew was fine -nothing to ride home about the least. It was rushed with fake apologies. The least they could have done was comp something on the bill or offer free dessert like they offered to every table around us. Felt like we were a burden to be dining with the Waterhouse. Not how the old chef would have ever wanted his guests to feel. Such a pity since everything that didn't come out

Savanah M.

Yelp
BEST expresso martinis I've ever had (I've tried from a lot of places). They use fresh expresso. The staff are unbelievably friendly and it's the kind of place you visit once and they remember your name. The food is incredible as well. HIGHLY recommend.

Yelp
Fantastic food, awesome ambience and unbeatable location by the river. The waitresses are super friendly. One of the best restaurant experience we had.

Yelp
This is a hell yes! At least for brunch.! We went on a cloudy fall day but were seated right at the window on the stream side. Very picturesque. The food and service was excellent. We had the breakfast pizza, crepes special And vegetable quiche. Everything was perfectly prepared and delicious. If you are going for brunch on the weekend make reservations because it is justifiably a popular spot.

Aron C.

Yelp
We had a good dinner at The Waterhouse. First off, the location and decor were beautiful. We were sat by its floor length window where we could see the river right outside. Briana, our server, did a fantastic job. We could see that she was stretch with the number of tables she had. We started off with its hummus. The hummus itself was good, but the toasted bread/crustini was slightly stale. The bread was plated right next to the wet crudite (red pepper, celery and carrots) ruined the dish a bit. I had the wild boar bolognese while my partner had the scallop dish. Both were delicious, but the scallop dish was slightly pricey for 6 scallops served. We ended our meal with the strawberry shortcake. It was delicious. Overall, the meal was good, but the service was slightly slow. Nonetheless, we will likely come back for lunch to enjoy the view a bit more.

Yelp
Very disappointed . Been a somewhat regular customer over the years , I assure you that I won't be in the future . I showed up today with a party of 2 without a reservation . I could completely understand if the restaurant was full . Could see both the dining room , and the Bar from front desk . 2 people sitting at the bar , a table of 4 seated in the bar , 3 empty tables from my viewpoint in the dining room , and 4 empty tables outside . I asked the young , very young lady at the desk if we could sit at the bar , she replied that she would have to check with the bartender his answer was a flat out no , I asked about a table inside , or out , she said she had to check with the other hostess . The other hostess came out and said that it would be 45minutes , to and hour, they took my cell number , and said we could check out the local shops , while we were waiting . That's exactly what we did . 45 minutes later I received a call from the hostess at 1:38 stating that the bartender couldn't keep up with the diners that they had , and that they could not accommodate us for the rest of the day . I can't believe that they don't have anyone crossed trained to assist the incompetent bartended . There wasn't anyone I would guess over the age of 20 to speak to . I've recommended the Waterhouse a number of times to family , and friends , but going forward I'll be sure to eco how poorly The Waterhouse is being run .

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Easy to make a reservation and the patio was great for the family to enjoy the river. Would highly recommend the flat breads, kids chicken strips breaded in house and vodka martini.

Yelp
The Waterhouse is a nice restaurant on the creek in Peterborough. The location reminds me of a couple of river/creek-front restaurants I have been to - L'auberge de Sedona in Arizona, and Rapids lodge in Grand Lake, CO come to mind. When we stopped by the hostess mentioned that a party of 20 had just been sat so there would be a 30 minute wait to give the kitchen a break. No worries, we walked around and checked out some of the cool shops in the vicinity. When we returned we were seated right away. We sat outside near the creek which was lovely. Our waitress was extremely nice and pleasant, my main concern is that the service was inordinately slow. The restaurant was not full whatsoever but for some reason everything took forever. It was a good 15 minutes before our waitress even came over. After that it was probably a good 30 minutes before our appetizer came out and another 30 after that before the food made an appearance. The food itself was pretty good. We started with the fried calamari and zuchinni which was a nice twist on the usual. I had the proscuitto, date, & goat cheese flatbread which was unique and tasty. The wife had the eggplant roulade which was absolutely delicious. The fish tacos were also fresh and a nice sized serving. Honestly the excessive waiting time kind of ruined our experience despite the food being good and the server pleasant. From the time we gave our name to be seated and the time we left it was probably a good 3 hours. Really no reason for this wait when the restaurant was about 1/4 full for lunch.

Rhawnie M.

Yelp
Everything was perfect & delicious view over looking the snowy river, food was A'MAZING, service was great.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Portion sizes were average but acceptable, although they were quite expensive. I would not recommend takeout, as it appears that they limit the size of your portions with takeout orders. Would likely return if entertaining guests from out of town and wanted to introduce them to some quality food in the area, but one would have to make sure that their wallet was well padded in order to feed four people there adequately.

Billie W.

Yelp
Area was beautiful! Restaurant is nice inside. We sat at the bar area. We did not get looked at for at least 15 minutes, I had to go up to the bar and ask if I needed to order from there instead of the table. When the waiter came over he apologized and said he wasn't aware we were there? We ordered drinks and dinner all at once so not to be forgotten again..... we waited 40 minutes never received our food so we left. Would not recommend sorry

Yelp

My favorite fine dining restaurant in Peterborough. Food, atmosphere, view, service, it's got it all.

Yelp
We had a wonderful outdoor lunch yesterday at the Water House. The table was by the river, the server was excellent and the food was wonderful. Our reservation was a little confused. Two people with the same last name. Our reservation was the earlier by 15 minutes but the later people arrived first and were seated. Not a problem. We we offered a drink and seated in the bar to enjoy it until our table was ready. The Water House has become a meeting for my wife and her friends who travel from different locations to meet.

Sandra H.

Yelp
The service was excellent the food just mediocre. The sandwich bread was stale and they should have left the slimy pickle off the plate. Not much else to say just mediocre. The restaurant itself is cozy and in a great location, the food is not what it used to be. It's sort of a tourist trap.

Shantelle H.

Yelp
The staff were very nice and the food is great. We sat outside and it's calming out there by the river. We would go back. We did return. I ordered a burger that was organic and grass fed. I have made my own at home and know what grass fed beef tastes like. However when I said something the woman (I'm guessing manager) was rude and "informed" me that organic beef tastes different. I guess that wasn't enough to deter me from returning. I went back with family that was visiting from out of town. Ordered a steak medium and it came out well done. The same woman manager was there before and I was too afraid to say anything as history showed it would have made no use. Learned my lesson, didn't go back and won't be back. I am changing my 5 star to a 2 star.
