A true hidden gem of Yorktown! The entire family enjoyed seeing the highly detailed models of ships throughout the ages. During our visit, we had a chance to speak with the craftsman who made many of the models and he was extremely kind and friendly. Thank you and we will certainly return!

This museum is a hidden gem! We were the only ones in the place most of the time while we were there and the gentleman there was extremely friendly. He explained to us a lot of history of the Chesapeake Bay and Captain John Smith (no, the real one) and Blackbeard and all sorts of other info about the area around Yorktown and the Watermen's history. All of that (and more) is there and scores of model ships that are made in the museum. Also, since I am in the military, I showed him my ID card and got in for free. This was a great experience!

We loved the museum! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about all things related to boating, from pre-colonial through today. The models and volunteer making them were amazing. Definitely check it out!

We had a wonderful time at the Pirate Festival in Youk County, Va. today! Lots of vendors, food trucks and a funny puppet show!

Small museum with detailed exhibits and passionate employees. Both the desk attendee and the model shipbuilder loved to teach us and strike conversation. It was so lovely. Don't miss this gem!! 💎

Didn't make it inside before the trolley came & wisked us away & we got distracted. Bummer it was closed before we made it back around. Outside was beautiful!

Yelp
An adorable museum run by a very knowledgeable docent. Our tour gave us a vast history of Yorktown and the fishing that used to be so abundant there. When we got to explore the exhibits, we saw how detailed everything was. As someone who is interested in sustainability, the overfishing history was fascinating. It's hard to picture what the York River would be like with all of the fish it had many years ago.

Yelp
A little gem! First you'll meet Mary and learn of the history of the area, how the bay was formed, wild horses, and waterman restoration efforts of the bay today. We had the pleasure of meeting Bruce, the model boat maker. Bruce's interaction with our son shows his excitement for his craft. The museum is full of information and history, a must visit and we'll worth the nominal entry fee!

Yelp
Super adorable museum, very interesting displays and the staff is very nice and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed all the ship models and the local history. They have events year-round like concerts and dances, and you always feel welcome. They rent out the Carriage House for parties and special events--went to a beautiful wedding there. Lovely view of the York River. The address is actually 309 Water Street, zip is 23690.
