I witnessed an incredibly disappointing display of poor leadership and disrespect at this establishment. The issue arose over the heat not being turned on. It wasn't even particularly cold, but the owner seemed to use the situation as an excuse to grandstand.
Initially, he was performing over-the-top customer service, apologizing profusely to four older women about the heat. While this might seem courteous on the surface, it quickly devolved into something else entirely. He loudly commented--within earshot of his staff--"I don't know why the heat isn't on," in a tone dripping with passive aggression.
After this dramatic display, he stormed back to the counter and barked at his young female employees, using a scathing voice to demand, "Why the fuck isn't the heat on?" It was so jarring that I literally stopped in my tracks, shocked by how he spoke to them. This was not leadership; it was bullying.
I moved to this town for its small-town friendliness and to escape the impersonal harshness of the city. Behavior like this is a stark reminder that money can open a business, but it can't buy the acumen--or decency--required to run one effectively and respectfully.
Sure, this could have been a "teachable moment" about maintaining the environment for customers. But any lesson was lost in the owner's/managers (tall older gentleman drive a Subaru accent with a Steelers plate) utter lack of professionalism. A more respectful, composed approach would have shown leadership. Instead, his actions were a glaring example of what not to do.
Disrespecting staff in front of customers isn't just unacceptable--it's bad for business. I sincerely hope this person reflects on how their behavior undermines the values of the very community they chose to serve.
As a hospitality professional this isn't cool. This kind of behavior is unfortunately rampant especially where employment is hard to come by.
As far as the food. Had the Vietnamese spring rolls once. They were not good.
The person worn me was Vietnamese and said they were inedible and we sent them back. Fish sauce was poor quality as well. Had a dessert today. The chocolate pecan bar made warm. It was tasty. Espresso seemed a little burnt. Would probably get coffee elsewhere. Do love the bar in the back for cocktails.
