Watsons Bay Hotel

Went to The Gap today with mixed feelings. Yeah naa, I was after a good feed. Superb battered fish and chips is suicidal for me but what a way to go. A plate of greens kinda cancelled out cholesterol clogging my arteries, then there were the sunshine, sky, harbour, yachts bobbing and friendly fellow foodies (try repeating that fast) and large team of efficient servers. Does pub grub ever deserve five stars? In this case definitely. Great management enhances the casual atmosphere. My international guests were impressed. OI Oi Oi.

It’s a great place for lunch. Good menu..decently priced drinks. However …our plates and glasses (amongst many tables) were not cleared for over 45 mins plus ..it was like a game to us in the end seeing which one of the very many bus boys/girls would notice tables piled high. It was a hot day to be fair. What was extraordinary as you ordered from the QR code at the table you get charged a “weekly charge” and request a tip 😂 for you to order your own food, (side salad $15) provide all the info like I’m at a convention and then see plates and glasses pile up like a food court . Oh and all the chatting amongst themselves having such a great time 😂😂 . Fascinating ..but nice place.

Superb location!! Very disappointed in both food & service. We had pre booked a table and had received good service in booking an excellent table. Had lovely cocktails but from then on it was not good. I do not usually write ‘bad’ reviews however on this occasion I must!! The SA mussels had a very bad smell - I felt physically sick. We mentioned this to a man in beige pants who appeared to be the person in charge. He was very nonchalant and mumbled something about a refund. We had brought visitors from overseas with us so we felt bad about this experience. We also ordered a glass of wine - lovely and ordered a second one - the second one was definitely not the same. I really hope we don’t get sick - we ate a couple but couldn’t stomach any more. Soooo disappointed.

I learnt about this venue via simple word of mouth – great views, a nice selection and hospitable service. Dan was a familiar face behind the bar, offering a local experience that felt authentic. His friendliness and bar knowledge is unparalleled. He even offered to refill my water bottle for the beach!

Great location. Easy access to ferry. Pleasant and knowledgeable staff. Restaurant has the system down to an art. Good food and drinks. Nice clean room and did we mention the great location?

Pizza was really good. Atmosphere is very nice. Drink line is crazy. Only comment we should able to order on app for drinks. Staff look overwhelmed little bit but I understand them it was very busy day. Thank you very much We will come back.

Very unfortunate experience at the restaurant. Cocktail delicious, view epic HOWEVER service was extremely poor - in fact, non existent and when the mussels I had ordered arrived they were definitely off. I’m a seafood lover from the west coast of Canada and am comfortable with my knowledge and experience with quality seafood. The mussels served stank and were of terrible stringy quality-likely have been frozen and sitting out too long. Spoke with the expeditor who offered no apology, comment or interest-extremely disappointed with the complete lack of care.

As two interstate visitors to NSW, we were recommended to visit Watsons Bay and if we were to need a feed, try out the Watsons Bay Hotel. So, on to the ferry we went to Watsons Bay. After a short, scenic trip across the harbour we arrived at the Watsons Bay Wharf. We spent a couple of hours walking around the area, taking in the spectacular sight of The Gap Bluff and the Sydney Harbour National Park. At around lunch time, feeling a tad peckish, we decided to drop in to the Watsons Bay Hotel for lunch. We were greeted by several young, friendly staff members. After noticing that the open dining area was very busy, (with its accompanying silver gulls and flies), we asked if we could have a table in a more serene spot. All credit to the staff, they suggested that we travel up the stairs to the indoor dining area. We found a perfect, quiet table with a terrific view. We ordered chicken burgers and collected our drinks at the downstairs bar. All at reasonable prices too! Food was delivered quite quickly and was of an excellent standard. We were so pleased to have taken up the recommendation to visit the hotel.
