Don’t come for me please ! I liked it but I came in looking for some classics and found the saddest little section of it. Otherwise neat selection of the most popular stuff and some new interesting finds c:

Such a sweet little bookstore - so friendly, always a great selection and it’s fun to browse and lose yourself in books for a bit!

Long gone are the days of every town having a local family owned bookstore, but Jenny and Muir have kept that tradition alive here in Hood River! With a recent remodel, you won’t be disappointed when you browse a fluid and up to date collection of your favorite books as well as stickers, cards, and fun gifts perfect for stocking stuffers or last minute birthday gifts. They even have a little area dedicated for your little shopping partners if you need to set them down for a minute while you shop. Miss the old store feel and it’s historic signature carpet?! They have you covered with some nostalgic swag to bring home your bag of books and bookmark your favorite pages!

Finally got a chance to stop here. Great bookstore run by great people! I own a bookstore in Montana and always love stopping at other indie bookstores. ❤️ I always find something fun on the staff picks.

We love visiting bookstores as we travel around the country in our motorhome. This was another really good one with a nice, eclectic selection of books and specialty items. Found some unique Christmas cards. Nice selection of cookbooks. Helpful staff. Would stop again.

I recently visited Waucoma Bookstore and was initially impressed by its charming interior and inviting ambiance. However, my overall experience was soured by the unprofessional behavior of the staff. After I had checked out, I overheard two staff members making derogatory comments about my choice of books (romance novels). Their remarks were not only unnecessary but also disrespectful. As a customer, I value being treated with kindness and respect, regardless of my reading preferences. While I appreciate the bookstore's efforts to create a pleasant environment for book lovers, I believe that customer service should be a top priority. It is disappointing to encounter such rudeness, and I hope that the management takes steps to address this issue and ensure that all customers are treated respectfully in the future.

Have always been a patron of Waucoma. I have stood in line at 11:45 pm for Harry Potter releases when I was in my teens. I have taken my kids to Waucoma for books, I've shopped there with out of town guests, and I've bought more than a few presents and gift cards for teachers there. After Covid hit, I panicked about books for my kids and Waucoma's survival. I started ordering online, and can see in emails that I purchased roughly $1,000 worth of books from Waucoma after March 2020. Not once was it ever mentioned to me that locals can receive a 10% discount when paying with checks. Very disappointing to find that out when we are moving out of the country in 2022. For equally impersonal service, I can visit Powell's in Portland.

Yelp
What a unique find while vacationing in Hood River!! A great selection of books for the young at heart. So many good finds here in this cozy establishment. I left with a few souvenirs and a couple of reads to last me through the next couple of weeks. I love supporting local bookstores!

Yelp
Charming bookstore right on Oak, wander in and you won't be disappointed! For a small bookstore, it's well organized and has a varied selection, including a children's area in the back, a section on hiking up front, current fiction and non fiction displayed on large tables and lots of treasures in between. They have a section called "Blind Date With a Book" where the books are wrapped in brown paper and a sticker indicates if it's a thriller mystery, adult romance, family life or whatever. What a clever idea and a great way to promote books from new authors. They carry cards from local artists with beautiful nature photography or drawn images. In addition to books, there are puzzles, coloring books and colored pencils, PNW stickers, coasters with funny sayings, even calendars. I didn't realize that people still use the printEd version! Staff is friendly and helpful. All Covid protocols are followed, which I appreciate. Since it's a small store only 9 customers are allowed in at a time which isn't an issue. At the cash register there are delicious local chocolates and treats for that spontaneous purchase to go with your new read!

Yelp
Cute little book store that is on our regular stops when we are east in Hood River. We came during covid, so things in Hood River are on lock down basically. This place was spacious enough there wasn't a line out side and they could accommodate normal light traffic. We went in and back to the kids and young readers section. They gave us some great ideas for some new series for my 9 year old, hes been destroying every series he touches these days when in the house and they have a bunch if ideas here for him to get rolling on next. We got my youngest a cute snapping counting book, and a caramel 'course.

Yelp
We walked into this bookstore just to kill time while exploring Hood River, but it's hard to walk out of here empty handed. For a small store, they have a great selection of books and have a little bit of everything. I always love seeing little notes around the store with comments from the staff about their favorite books. They also have a nice selection of gifts and knick knacks.

Yelp
Small bookstore brimming with personality and a fantastic selection. A friend recommended we stop by as she's a fan of their social media. After a full day on the Fruit Loop, the book store was the perfect air conditioned respite. We left with many treasures!

Yelp
We walked into Waucoma Bookstore on a whim and oh man, we were not disappointed! We found three awesome books, one of which is The Divine Comedy in a version we've never seen before anywhere else. This book is an absolute work of art. A masterpiece from start to finish. It's bound in a golden metallic hard cover with matching gold fore edge on the pages. It includes all the original artwork along with the timeless story. The bookstore itself is easy to navigate with a magnificently varied selection. Not only do they have books, but they have an interesting section with home goods, toys, and trinkets of all shapes and sizes. The staff was kind and quick to help. All in all, I am so glad we happened upon this gem. I'm looking forward to a return trip our next time through town!!

Yelp
Excellent bookstore - small, but a lot of selections are available. The staff is passionate and helpful. There's an entire section of the bookstore devoted to feminism, so anyone who has an interest in gender equality won't be disappointed ;) They have a few gifts, too, and a big children's section.

Yelp
I really enjoy chilling in a good book store on a rainy winter day. Waucoma has all the hall marks I would normally look for; a diverse and thoughtful selection of books, employee recommendations and thoughtful employees who know how much interaction is welcomed. So why not a higher score? Politics. For the past few years, it has been a really divisive time where many of us have been continually asked to declare a tribal affiliation. Just looking through the front windows, you really know to which tribe the managers of the store belong. I'm a pretty middle of the road person, and find my self passing on going in to the store while strolling Oak Street. I can't really point any one sign, bumper sticker or selection of books in the window that was really offensive, rather I usually get the feeling of "we market to one tribe, and everyone else doesn't matter" when thinking about going in. This tends to get reinforced with their COVID policies relative to the neighboring stores. I'll keep looking through the window and hoping for a day when the vibe of the store is about inclusion and not division.

Yelp
I'm not local to this area but I wanted to purchase a baby shower gift for my coworker who is. The online ordering process was very easy. I received email updates of my order status and it shipped within a day of ordering. Muir was a delight to communicate with and I appreciated that he had sent me a picture of the note I wanted included (which was hand written) and it looked like he had the book gift wrapped as well. I would definitely recommend this bookstore and would order from them again.

Megan S.

Yelp
Nice staff, they know their way around books! This store was very cute and had a lot of variety. I only wish the used section was bigger.

Yelp
Waucoma has been around since 1976 and the word means means "place of the cottonwood tree", and refers to the confluence of the Hood and Columbia Rivers. Prior to the damming of the Columbia, this spot served as an important gathering and trading place for the area's native inhabitants. This independent book store fills a similar role for this Oregon Community. I enjoyed my too brief visit to this book store, and particularly enjoyed all the notes on the stacks, the book selection (of course), and a nice array of calendars and various gift items. Service is friendly and helpful, and is a nice place to explore some literary possibilities.

Yelp
I love books, but hate paying full price. What is a reader to do? Sometimes supporting a local bookstore can be a bit painful when you know you can easily get the same product at a lower price elsewhere. But, I am still old school and prefer the feel of a book to the eReader, so I haven't quite made the jump and still love browsing the aisles for inspiration. The Waucoma Bookstore is a regular stop for me in Hood River. I used to like this store more until I found the Book Stop just down the road, because there is very little on sale here. The sale section is one very tiny bookshelf that practically hides in the corner. Things I do like about this location are all the notes on the stacks. Reviews, brief summaries, staff picks and notes. They have a good selection of books, calendars and gift items. But, my customer service experience here has been a bit mixed. One employee is a little less friendly than the others. So I'll continue to give them a try, but lately my purchases have been at G. Willikers Toy Store (children's books are in the basement) and the Book Stop which is filled with discounted paperbacks. So I'm still supporting the little guy, they just happen to be down the street.

Yelp
We decided to walk through the town of Hood River last weekend during some downtime that we had from my company retreat in Stevenson at the Skamania Lodge. This store was so cute! Bookstores are usually pretty fun to browse through, but this one also sold fun and wacky gadgets too. I didn't end up buying anything, but my bf bought some mustache clip magnets for the fridge. Service was friendly, and I could've spent a few hours in there if I wanted to.

Yelp
Waucoma book store is a really nice place. The merchandise is always in good condition and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Waucoma doesn't just have books and merchandise it also has a really good selection of chocolate and sweets. So if you're in town take a look at Waucoma book store.

Yelp
This bookstore is great. It's very small, so probably don't go in for a specific book unless you plan on ordering it, because they don't have the space for a HUGE selection. They had some good puzzles there and some gift items as well. I took my girls back to pick out chapter books and they were each able to find something they were interested in. They also had fun socks... which are pretty closely matched with the joy of book buying. We'll be back for sure.

Yelp
I love this book store! Great boutique selection of books. My favorite part is the little write-ups that the store employees do on the books there. You can find (on a hugh percentage of the books) a 3X5 card with a short review hand written by a book store employee. It really helps to choose something interesting - and helps you branch out into areas you might not normally try. The service counter is always very helpful and friendly. And, if they don't have it, they will order it for you. Great store!

Yelp
I'm giving Waucoma Bookstore five stars because: (1) It has a wonderful selection of books; (2) it's located in cozy downtown Hood River, where I live; and (3), I always feel welcome to browse, whether I purchase anything or not. At Waucoma, there's a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction--topics ranging from trees to toads. But today--just being able to browse quietly and then to buy a popular novel for my brother from a friendly clerk--was all that I needed to make it a happy day.

Yelp
There's something to be said about finding the perfect independent bookstore - and Waucoma is right up there. We go every time we hit up Hood River, and I never fail to leave without an armful of treasures. Huge book selection, and the folks that work there are helpful - and quick to make suggestions. Besides books, they have a great selection of tchotchkes like socks and other gifts that are good for anyone on your shopping list. But really, you need to spoil yourself when you go here!

Kim K.

Yelp
Such a great bookstore! You can't go wrong with giving book gift certificates from this bookstore, especially since they have something for everyone. Randomly, I got a great set of kitchen tools there.
google avatar

Nate S.

Yelp
We simply must work hard to support such independent booksellers. A well-curated but broad selection awaits visitors. Worth a trip even for passers-by and tourists, as they have a nice selection of locally-themed books and mementos.
google avatar

Anna O.

Yelp
Not only does this bookstore have books, there is a large selection of gifts, crafts, cards, and whatever else you might need for a birthday. I liked the cheap Melissa & Doug products, things like puzzles, magnetic letters, and more for kids. I'd go here to look through magazines, or to look for gifts from the area. It's an independent bookstore, kid friendly and all that.
google avatar

Mira N.

Yelp
This bookstore has a nice selection and great customer service (not pushy but sincerely helpful -- if you need it). I always find something that I didn't realize I "needed" (often good gifts) and I love supporting a local bookseller. They've been around forever and I just love visiting this place when I'm in town.

Yelp
I went in looking for one book, ended up buying 3 (after putting two more back) and a few maps. Staff was super helpful when my husband had a question about a book he didn't know much about. Great selection. Places like this make me grateful for independent bookstores!
google avatar

Nikkita P.

Yelp
They didn't have the book I was looking for, so they ordered it in, no fuss, complaining, or extra charge. Just a smile and "it'll be here Tuesday, and we will call you!". Which they did. On Monday. Awesome.

Yelp
After thirty-odd years, walking through the doors still gets me as giddy today as it did as a kid. There is something about a real bookstore... with real books... that can't be replaced by technology. Need a gift for any occasion and the perfect greeting card to go with? Start here. Looking for that perfect book for yourself? Ask staff for a recommendation or browse their selection. Life will be good if you can still find me shopping in this bookstore another thirty years from now!
google avatar

Chana L.

Yelp
Love supporting this bookstore. They special order books for me all the time. Only takes a few days. My go to store for books. I only wish they didn't have so many toys in there. More books less toys.

Yelp
Waucoma is hands down my favorite boom store (and as a major book worm... I've been in a few) the atmosphere here is awesome. Plus the staff is soooo friendly and willing to help. On the rare occasion that you can't find a specific book your looking for they will search the Web to find and order it for you. Also, in addition to books they have some cute trinkets for sale. A while back I was doing some birthday shopping fir my boyfriend and picked up the most adorable seasoning rack while also purchasing "The Big Book of Bacon" (that I could not find in ANY other bookstore, including the 4 I went to in portland). Equally important, their prices are very fair, and everything is very well kept. Since stumbling upon this book store a few years back it's my go to place for reading material, and I recommend it to every fellow book worm.

Dale P.

Yelp
A very nice store with a great selection of items. Friendly staff and decent prices. If you have go to one bookstore in Hood River, this is definitely the one to go to.
