If You Love Architecture, Visit New Canaan, Connecticut in Fall | Condé Nast Traveler

"Designed by the Olmsted Brothers, Waveny Park is a 450-acre estate of parklands and woodland surrounding Waveny House, a Tudor mansion built in 1912, with red maples and white oaks that put on a color show at the turn of the season and a picturesque setting for “Caffeine and Carburetors” gatherings." - Jessica Sulima

A stunning park right off the Merritt with tons of space, numerous gardens, very dog friendly, and a great place to hang out on a warm day. Will definitely be back.

Waveny Park is the crown jewel of New Canaan — a stunning 300-acre estate turned public park right off the Merritt Parkway. I find myself here almost every Thursday, whether for the Rotary Club, Caffeine & Carburetors, or a quiet walk through the woods. The landscape is a masterful blend of open meadows, formal gardens, and shaded trails that wind past Waveny House, the historic Tudor-style mansion at the park’s heart. It’s one of those rare places that offers something for everyone — from dog owners and families to car enthusiasts and art lovers. The trails are peaceful, the lawns immaculate, and the gardens vibrant throughout the seasons. It’s where New Canaan gathers to celebrate, reflect, and recharge. There’s simply no better place to spend a warm afternoon, sip coffee with friends, or catch the golden light settling over the great lawn. Waveny Park is timeless, restorative, and deeply woven into the rhythm of community life here. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Always worth the visit, and somehow different every time.

We went here for a free music concert on Wednesday evening. 7:30 - 9:30 pm. There is plenty of parking and an excellent band. Highly recommended.

Very beautiful park, great sledding in the winter, great for walks, great variety in the scenery. The greenhouse/canopy/mansion area is just beautiful, very well maintained, the variety in the flora is beautiful. I usually go here with my family, either in the winter for sledding, or just to walk around with the dogs and get some fresh air with some good views. There are a few areas which are nothing but huge grassy fields and open space, which is great for going off leash if you’ve trained your dogs to not run off, playing sports, or even picnics. I love just walking around and taking in nature here, the aesthetics are really amazing, especially for photography! There’s a nice lake/river right at the bottom of the hill, behind the mansion, that just stunning on nice sunny/partially cloudy days.

LOVE THIS PARK! It has a dog park, great place for running, doing a picnic or take a beautiful and relaxing walk. I just wish there were more garbage and recycling cans. I haven’t seen the restrooms or at least there is no signaling of it but maybe there is one and I just didn’t see it yet. Also maybe a playground for kids would be amazing!

Yelp
I took my little almost 3 year old here one summer weekend. Apparently, I wasnt the only one that had that idea cuz it was packed! There was plenty of parking throughout the park, including some improvised parking near the tennis courts. We headed for the nature trails which were well-maintained. There were SO MANY BUGS in the trails so come prepared! After spending a bit of time in the trails, we hit the playgrounds. There is one gated area for smaller kids and a bigger playground for big kids. They also have public restrooms near the little grill they have by the baseball fields. The bathroom was clean.

Yelp
I love this Park! My dog Dixie and I come on walks here all the time! The park beautiful. This is a great place for weddings, dog walking, biking, jogging! In the summer they even have free concerts that are always fun to attend. Parking is free and its an amazing area to really be with nature and get a great walk to start out your day! I highly recommend it!

Yelp
Waveny Park is a real gem. It's located in New Canaan, adjacent to the high school, and amongst a lot of residential area. This place is really popular with people and their pups, as well as families with kids. There's a lot going on here. There's the Waveny house, there's platform tennis courts, there's an off-leash dog area, a swimming pool, and a lot of other amenities. We were here to do some hiking, and this is a great place for a nice gently stroll, through the open fields and the woods that surround the fields. The surface is mostly crushed gravel, so you could also likely bring a bicycle here for some riding, or in the winter with snow, I imagine there are quite a few cross country skiers. Overall a fantastic park, one that we'll definitely be visiting again!

Yelp
Awesome summer concert series, on beautiful grounds. I bet the New Canaan residents would like to keep this a secret and I don't blame them one bit.
