Great location. Rooms are not big but very comfortable and clean. Property has so much characteristics. I also especially liked the snack table with tea/ coffee always available. Walls may be a little thin due to property being historic but the clientele isn’t of partying nature so it was not a problem. Unfortunately property has no elevator so it’ll be hard for those that have trouble carrying their luggage upstairs?

Staff were all friendly and seemed to enjoy working at this charming inn, which in turn made us feel genuinely welcome. We stayed here at the beginning and end of our trip in two different rooms, each of which were spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was fine with quite a bit of choice. Check-out time at noon is very generous. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful inn, with lots of old decor, and chilled out atmosphere. The reception staff were all exceptional, and they were helpful with every request. They let us keep our rental parked on our last day after check-out while we walked around Halifax before our flight. Breakfast in the basement was good! The rooms could use a touch of minimalism to make them more comfortable, and the air conditioning units could use an update. Aside from that, we would stay here again, and recommend that you check it out!

The Waverley is a an old property but well maintained. We booked a Premier king room and were quite satisfied. The room was large and the bathroom a good size. A fridge an wine glasses. There is a bit of outside noise but that is expected in any city. The inn is easy walking distance from all downtown attractions. The included breakfast is pretty standard and nothing special but this is true of many places. Staff were pleasant and helpful. On site parking available at no extra charge.

This was not the hotel I picked for my trip to Halifax but my husband talked me into it and I'm so glad he did!! The staff have all been amazing and the place is absolutely beautiful. My room is small but cozy and has everything I need. The bed is almost comfier than my own. The attention to detail is spectacular, the furniture and decorations are so beautiful, you really feel like you've stepped back in time. And the water pressure in the showers is actually really good. Normally I have a horrible time with hotel showers and, because of the age of the building, I was expecting it to be just as bad if not worse than normal but it was on par with my shower at home. Small thing but it makes a huge difference. I will definitely be back.

It was a charming historical house. The bed was comfortable but the room may feel small for people who are used to a big hotel chain. I love the architectural details in the house. Breakfast was great. It is walking distance to Halifax waterfront. Be prepared to walk up and down hills. Lovely stay. Also, free parking.

Beautiful and spacious room with modern amenities. Location is great with on the premise parking, just 2 blocks from the waterfront and a few blocks from the Public Garden and the fantastic Central Library (definitely worth a visit). Continental breakfast is adequate. I would suggest taking an evening ferry to Dartmouth to take in the amazing view. Sometimes the Sea Bridge is open for a stroll on the sea, quite beautiful. Highly recommended for staying in Waverly Inn in Halifax.

This inn has a lot of historic character. It's in a terrific location, very close to the boardwalk and right around the corner from Stories, the number 1 restaurant in Halifax. It's clean and the service is top notch. I'd only give the breakfast an "average" -- stick with the pancakes, fruit and hard-boiled eggs (avoid the processed scrambled eggs). The walls aren't thick so there are occasional moments when it's not as quiet as I prefer. The closets need lights -- I had to use my flashlight to find stuff in the suitcase. Ramps throughout made wheeling a large suitcase in easy. Very good, free, parking. Overall, I recommend -- beats the corporate bland, overpriced joints.

Yelp
A lovely inn in the of downtown Halifax - free hot breakfast & tea & coffee are always on the ready. The place is also decorated lavishly from period furniture to plush bedding. Free things at the inn: postcards (they have stamps for sale); coffee and tea (all day); hot breakfast (everyday); sweet treats at 4pm;

Yelp
The Waverley Inn is a dreamy spot to stay if you're looking for a little more charm than the regular hotel experience. And while I've never been an overnight guest myself, I've visited its enchanting interiors and will marvel accordingly. My roommate's parents were in town and staying at the Waverley. Living quite close at the time, we took a walk over to have a visit and investigate the premises. Decor embraced Old Victorian Style and European decadence. The space was personal, rich and beautifully presented. Chandeliers, wallpapering and popping textures appealed to my visuals. It all takes one back to an older time, when furnishings were classic and gladly adorned. Its bed and breakfast style allows for a home away from home feel, but in the lapse of Old Style luxury. Apparently rooms each have their own unique look- no two the same! This would make for reason to come again... They offer free wi-fi in all guest rooms and a tasteful hot breakfast buffet for all guests. (also free) The staff seemed kind and welcoming in my brief encounter and it all made me reflect quite positively on this little spot! The Waverly has age to back its appeal. The inn has been around for many generations and housed Halifax's own Anna Leonowens and Jon Doul. And on an international scale: the one and only Oscar Wilde! With such deep roots and moderate prices, The Waverly proves to be a top contender in Halifax hospitality. If I ever need to hotel in Halifax, this is a spot that comes to mind!

Yelp
My husband and I passed through Halifax three times on our three week Atlantic Canada trip, and the Waverley Inn was the first place we had the pleasure of resting our heads while there. We spent three nights and were both very impressed. The Inn has been open since the late 1800s and is not showing her age at all. From the outside of the building to the main lobby to the rooms, everything is beautiful and well done. Beautiful hardwood floors throughout . When we checked in, the man at the front desk (I believe his name was Matt, I might be wrong) was genuinely friendly and excellent at his job. I came across him a few times during our stay and he was always this way. We stayed in a Traditional room ($129/night in high season - August) on the second floor, which was small but cozy, not suffocating at all. I am not an easy sleeper, and the bed in that room was arguably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. It was soft, the way I like it, and had this amazing V-shaped pillow that knocked me out instantly. Note - there is not an elevator in the building. Breakfast was included in the price and we both found it to be quite sufficient. Cereal, yogurt, fruit, hashbrowns, eggs, oatmeal, juice.... There was also a little table next to the front desk that had cookies or squares each day, along with some apples, and coffee and tea. I really appreciated this as it was nice to grab an apple or a cookie for the road. The Inn has free Wifi and a computer in the lobby as well. The Inn is located in a quiet part of downtown, about a 10 minute walk from the waterfront, the Citadel, shopping and almost everything else you'll want to get to in Halifax. We had a rental car as we were heading out of the city quite a bit, and a huge bonus for us was the free parking provided in a good sized lot right beside the Inn. I also have to add that when I phoned from home to book the room months before our stay, the man on the phone was also extremely helpful and nice. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone going to Halifax. We stayed in three different hotels in Halifax, and this was the best.

Yelp
Beautifully appointed B and B style hotel with helpful staff and a great location. But I took 2 stars off because the breakfast is truly horrible! The only edible thing was a hard boiled egg. The coffee was weak brown water. How can such a lovely place offer up such slop for breakfast is beyond me! We had to make a run to the grocery store to substitute for he second morning's breakfast and we had to use instant coffee packets for coffee.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stayed here for four nights in a beautifully appointed and spacious queen room on the top floor; it even had a skylight! Staff was extremely efficient and friendly; someone was always cleaning something ... baseboards, shelves, tables, anything and everything ... the place was immaculate. All this was within walking distance to everything the harbour area has to offer. Plus, free wifi, free parking, free buffet breakfast and fresh coffee and goodies in the lobby make it an exceptional value. Look no further than the Waverly!

Yelp
Spent two nights in Room 134 on the top floor (standard room). Bathroom very clean and lots of hot water. Soaps provided were nice. Not a 5* room (smelled like moth balls up there) but fine for what we needed and paid for. Inn is in a great location - less expensive than being on the water but only a few blocks away. Breakfast could definitely be improved - not up to Irish or Scottish B&B standards. Would probably stay here again but might look at a place on the water.

Yelp
This lovely inn located in downtown Halifax is a must see! The hotel staff are amazingly nice and they offer free coffee and tea throughout the stay. Their free breakfast is a great addition and they offer ham, eggs, cereal and cold breakfast items as well. The room we stayed in, 111 was heavily decorated with pictures and antique like items. The bed was a double, but the room was too beautiful that we decided to stay in that room. Though, we could hear people running in and out of the hotel if they got rowdy. A great thing about this place is that they were offering a groupon for stays so we got it at a deal, however, their nightly room rate is comparable to the groupon.

Yelp
This isn't just another small town centre hotel. It's a home from home. All the rooms are individually furnished with antique furniture. Beds are extremely comfortable. Room rates include buffet breakfast with hot dishes, tea & coffee (with biscuits and cakes) in the lobby, free parking in downtown Halifax, and free wifi for the internet. If you don't have your own computer then there are two for the use of guests in the front lounge. The Waverley Inn is a well known landmark in the Christmas season for its decorations. The tree is now up and the lobby and hall ways are all decorated. The staff are extremely accommodating and friendly. If you're staying in Halifax, this should be your first port of call!

Yelp
Historical B&B downtown Halifax Pros - location in downtown is close to restaurants, waterfront, shopping, spas - beautiful boutique hotel decorated historically Victorian era - homey comforting feeling - room 111 close to front door easy exit with no stairs (one DOUBLE bed) - fine by me I was travelling solo - large rooms - coffee and tea 24/7 - parking fee included - polite and helpful staff - breakfast - hot coffee and tea with fresh fruit to grab - basic - quick serve yourself - comfortable and luxurious bedding - great value and comfort for the $$ - ASK ABOUT AAA discount - 1/2 hour walk to Point Pleasant Park - wonderful walking and running trails Cons - location - my room close to front busy street - noisy - guests sitting area and front desk close to front entrance room 111 - guests waking early were sitting there and talking - woke me up and seemed oblivious that it was 645 am - my fault I should have know better (however - front desk staff should maybe set polite sandwich cards on coffee tables in sitting area reminding guests that there are rooms on the main level) - breakfast - ordinary, bland, simple - serve yourself. Don't expect extraordinary - due to historic building no elevator (therefore if mobility is an issue make sure you request main floor location of your room). Breakfast room down steep set of stairs but I'm sure if requested they'd help accommodate. Overall - highly recommend and would be high on my list to return

Yelp
We stayed here for one night over the Labour Day weekend. One plus was the convenient location - easy walking distance to the Citadel and the downtown nightlife. We also loved the blues bar directly across the street! It's a bit of an older hotel - they try to make that an attraction, sort of a "heritage" place with old-fashioned decor and paintings - and some of it was quite charming, but there was also a level of "rundown" as well. The room was ok, not huge, but ok. They did provide a "Waverly Inn" branded tote bag which came in really handy for our trips to the market and picnics. I still use that bag! The staff were all very nice and helpful. The wifi was a bit of a problem as I recall. They offered some free breakfast snacks in the morning but we slept in. Vacations. This was one of the more reasonably priced hotels in Halifax that holiday weekend. We actually tried to extend our stay by a night and they were fully booked, so we had to move down to the Harbourfront. I would probably stay here again if I was in town and they offered a competitive price.

Yelp
We were quoted a rate over the phone and when we arrived the rate more than doubled. Because we were staying for two nights, they said they would speak to the manager in the morning. The following morning we were told we would be paying $60 p/night more than the rate we were quoted. Although that was better than having it doubled, we were still disappointed and told if we didn't like it, we could go home.

Yelp
Very happy with this historic, charming inn. It was perfectly located for walking the city and very close to the VIA station. Nice buffet breakfast. Would go back again, and I hope to.

Yelp
Old fashioned and affordable. The Waverley feels more like a B&B than a hotel, but is very reasonably priced and super comfortable. My go-to Halifax spot to stay 3-4 times per year.

Scott W.

Yelp
What a treasure! I stumbled on the Waverley because it was close to the train station and was delighted to discover this unique and beautiful place. The decor alone is worth the stay. Our rooms was small by modern standards, but the bedstead was a work of art.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the Waverly for three nights...August 4-6, 2016. It was absolutely one of the best places we have stayed....it was impeccable as far as cleanliness goes...the cleaning staff do a phenomenal job...12 out of 10 hands down....the breakfast was lacking...but in my way of thinking..a clean room trumps breakfast!!

Yelp
The morning staff that happily upsold a sleep deprived traveller was great. The night staff who took 20 mins to open the front door not so much. Sorry I'm on pacific time. Also my room had a definite slant in it. Kept feeling like I would roll out of bed to the floor. For what I paid, I could've stayed at the big hotels and had a more comfortable stay in halifax.
