Wawel Cathedral

Monday was the perfect time to visit the cathedral as crowds were low. The cathedral was impressive offering incredible architecture, crypts of notable Polish nationals and the chance to climb the bell tower with sweeping views across krakow

A beautiful Cathedral with tons of history. If you really want to appreciate this place, do a little research on Polish secular and spiritual leaders. You'll be blown away by what you find here! Photography is not allowed in many areas, but use that as an opportunity to really take it all in!

Really worth to see! The building looks beautiful from outside and inside. It’s a piece of history. Many famous, saint people were buried in this cathedral. You can visit whole cathedral inside including basement, bell tower, see the crypts. If you are in Krakow this is the number 1 point of visit!

When it comes to history this has to rate as one of the most amazing places you could visit. Nearly 1000 years old and served as the coronation site of Polish monarchs. The crypts beneath the Wawel Cathedral hold the tombs of Polish kings, national heroes, generals and revolutionaries.

Price: 23 zloty. With audio guide it is 13 zloty more (you must leave an ID document or 100 zloty) I recommend taking the audio guide, as it provides more information than the information on the panels, especially in the crypt and chapels, particularly about the Polish kings buried here. Unfortunately, it is not possible to take photos except in the Sigismund's Tower (if you suffer from vertigo or clausteophobia, I recommend not going up there). The visit is totally worth it more for the history than for the architecture of the cathedral (it is a mixture of styles and is simply ornate). Don't forget to see the dragon bones before entering the cathedral! (They are actually from whales, mammoths and rhinoceroses). Also, the views from the tower are worth it. The entrance includes a visit to the cathedral museum and the archdiocese museum. I was short on time so I didn't visit them.

My favorite part od Krakow. Used to be a cathedral, well still is but with collection of royal sarcofaguses. Still most important holly building of Poland, where kings were crowned and also burried with wifes, Polish heroes..... It has lots of side chapels to explore, the crypt, the bell tower. In the last one is a huge bell that needed 10 man to operate. In crypt I got to visit grave of Jan Sobiesky, Polish King who saved Vienna from Turks and you can see his huge painting right before u enter Sikstine chapel in Rome. And also my favorite Queen and a Saint, Jadwiga. I could write an esey, because there are so many things to see inside. But not aloved to take picturesin cathadrel, can in tower and crypt.

I love exploring Cathedrals on vaction, this one did not disappoint. loved the walk up the bell tower.

Wawel Cathedral was a beautiful cathedral to visit in the heart of historic Kraków. The cathedral and royal castle were built sometime around the 13th-14th century and are beautiful works of art. There is a large hill to climb from the main road to get up to this, but it is definitely worth the trek. I bought tickets to visit the cathedral and it cost me under $10 USD and included an audio guide that knew where it was based on some sort of location sensor. This was great cause I didn't know much about the castle before, but didn't feel like going on a guided tour. The cathedral was absolutely beautiful in sign with very elegant and elaborate artwork, decor, and architecture. It was truly something to behold. There was also a very nice climb you could optionally do to see the top of the bell tower which I did. It was beautiful to see Kraków from so high up and considering the city is pretty low you could really see everything from up there. Also, the ticket to the cathedral gained you access to a smaller museum. It was okay, honestly not worth visiting, but it was included so why not! If you're visiting Kraków, I think this is a must see!
