"Established in 2015 by Richmond native and Scott’s Addition resident Andrew Griiimoiire, Wax Moon is Richmond’s only record store that caters to our goth population. They stock mostly Post-Punk (Goth, Darkwave, Deathrock), Metal (Black, Death, Doom), Punk, and Industrial artists. They also carry less obscure genres and cater to more mainstream tastes, and have CDs, tapes, patches, and t-shirts in addition to vinyl. So, whether you’re looking for Sisters of Mercy or Blink 182, Wax Moon has got you covered. Stop in, if you dare." - The Frontier Project

Awesome shop with a very good collection. Pinball arcade in the back. The owners are good people.

Great quirky little place to find some used vinyls, tee shirts, and a bunch of other stuff. Staff was super helpful. Backroom full of Pinball machines, I think it was like $10 to play all day. Located down is Scott's Addition, so stop a local brewing and wander over to check'm out.

Way too overpriced. The staff is nice, but I saw a Celtic frost album for 140 which was a reissue and is much cheaper in other stores. True some black metal is hard to get but something like that shouldn’t be that expensive. It’s almost like only the “true fans” should able to afford it. He has given me deals before though.

I have been shopping at Wax Moon for 2 years and but I can’t imagine life without it now. I began a small vinyl collection prior to moving to Richmond and a friend recommended that I check it out for the vinyl, horror movies, and pinball. Andrew was immediately so kind, welcoming, and helpful in both finding things I already enjoyed and also discovering new music, which I promptly collected. In particular, the metal, post punk, and dark wave selection is unmatched in the city. You won’t find the original pressings in this supply anywhere else. Andrew has all of the vinyl, CDs, and tapes you are looking for and is happy to make new recommendations that will open new doors. The horror VHS and dvd selection has anything from classics to cult classics and the sci-fi original nostalgia you’re seeking. The t shirt and clothing selection is good quality thrift with some really rare items that you won’t find anywhere else in the city. The horror pinball arcade has expanded massively and has some of the rarest pinball machines you’ll find anywhere. They host tournaments that are so fun and approachable even if you’ve never played before. My life in Richmond would not be complete without Wax Moon and Andrew, one of the kindest and most genuine people and business owners I’ve had the pleasure to know. Know that when you shop here, you support a community that is a cornerstone of Richmond and Scott’s Addition.

Found this place by accident and wow super cool shop . Great selection of records, collectibles, cassette tapes and VHS plus pinball. Definitely one of the coolest spots I've found since recently moving to Richmond. Looking forward to going back when I really having time to look as a horror movie fanatic

One of the true hidden gems in RVA. A true multimedia experience. Can't recommend enough, especially if you're into vinyls. Great Laserdisc selection too. Get your VHS and cassettes here as well! It's really a one stop shop for all that rad retro media. And of course be sure to play in the arcade because this is the best pinball in town. I regularly come here to spend hours at the only horror themed arcade in town. Skip the Circuit and stop by here instead.

Awesome spot! Parking can be tricky, but they can't control that. Music-wise, there's a large selection. I'm fond of the little anime section up front. It's a unique genre that most stores just bundle under international music.
The pinball is always fun and the staff members are friendly. Love this place! :)

Really cool gothic place with some nice vintage stuff. You can also trade in band tees or graphic T-shirts for some quick cash. There's also a pinball arcade room which is pretty cool as well.

Yelp
I like the selection and location but the prices are about $10 more than any of the other records shops in town. Not sure why but I understood why there weren't many shoppers...I was the only shopper there, along with one guy playing the pinball machines in back. That's too bad as I saw many of the records I was looking for but $36-$39 dollars for a record that is priced at $20-$24 elsewhere is a big difference.

Yelp
After I got over the questionable area and building I stepped into a wonderful surprise. I admit that I almost didn't go in because it looked like something that was out of a movie but I'm glad that I braved it. They seem to specialize in metal and punk of various styles. They also have some of the classics you'd expect to find in a music shop. Not a ton of inventory but it definitely has the vibe of being careful curated for a specific customer in mind. Plus the back was cool with various pinball machines. If it wasn't for the neighborhood I'd probably make this place a regular stop.

Yelp
Wax Moon is a small shop stuffed with niche records, CDs, tapes, t-shirts, posters, pins, patches, you name it, for bands you like and bands you don't know you like yet. How niche? Their metal is arranged by genre, both in CDs and LPs. While sure to get fans nitpicking (Manson doesn't qualify as industrial, if you ask me) it also represents the little shop's big dedication to a quality customer experience.
Also inside you can find VHS tapes, old school video games, locally roasted coffee beans, and a shop cat. He coordinates well with the overall theme of the store and will give you little love nips when you pet him. Don't overlook the plain black shop exterior or be put off if the shop is full of people in various shades of black clothing and band merch - metalheads are some of the nicest people I know, and Wax Moon lives up to that!

Yelp
I was referred to this place by a friend. Told that, "they have free play pinball machines for $10 and a great assortment of records for sale." So being the fan of both of those things that I am I went! Upon my arrival I notice that it was a quaint little place and was eager to roam the crates and play the games. After paying for access to play the games I proceeded to play. Game one and two go by and I and sucking. When an employee walked up to me and tells me that I needed to pay $10 or I could leave him a "5 star" review and then pay $5 to play the games. Which I ignored because i had payed. He then repeats himself twice more when I realize he's talking to me. So I then tell him that I have already payed and proceed to get my but kicked. He then says that I was lying. So since I didn't get a receipt I had to show a bank statement of his establishment. Very unprofessional, do better "wax moon".

Yelp
Went to Richmond for the first time for the sole purpose of visiting Wax Moon and it's my new favorite record store! Andrew was so nice and helpful with everything and they had an awesome selection of music. Andrew was also very willing to order items for us that we had seen online but they didn't have in store. Definitely worth a visit if you're into metal or just super rad locally owned shops! Will be back again for sure!

Yelp
Small and cozy but full of gems. The owner and staff are super nice and knowledgable without being "cooler than thou". Don't assume it's all metal music, there's some of everything and some stuff you can't find anywhere else ! Twice I've been here and bought what they were playing at the moment. "What's this I never heard before, dang it's awesome, gotta have it!"
